Portable Games / Yggdra Union on the GBA
« on: December 17, 2006, 01:33:33 pm »
Well, I recently purchased Yggdra Union for the GBA and have to say, fantastic little game.

Graphically a real treat, strategically deep, this game has it all. The story seems pretty much a standard faire and, well, from all reports stays it. Doesn't matter, extremely well executed and also good replayability thanks to the ability to FAST forward any dialogue and story to get down to the game.

Get a short review here: http://allrpg.com/games/yggdraunion/index.php3?page=review&num=1

Advance Wars rules the purist strategy, this game rules RPG one. If you like deep strategy games, you owe yourself to own this one  :)

Portable Games / Luminous Arc
« on: August 28, 2006, 06:57:27 am »
Well, coming out this fall I think it deserves it's own topic  ;D

It's an SRPG for the Nintendo DS with... just read the details below.

Famitsu scans:

First screenshots:

Some details:

- SRPG developed by Image Epoch (http://imageepoch.co.jp)
- Music and sound production by Yasunori Mitsuda
- Character design by Shibano Kaito (http://kr3.oops.jp/)
- Published by Marvelous, 70% complete
- Standard fantasy SRPG with ADV parts where characters talk, and then SLG parts where you fight the battles
- Touchpen control can be set to be right or left handed
- SLG parts use the standard top down view
- Deathblows can be used when you fill up the Drive Guage
- Characters all seem to have voices, but no voice actors have been mentioned

So Mitsuda decided to do some VG music work again. Let's ope this turn out better then Deep Labyrinth  :-\

The latest news can always be found at http://www.mmv-i.net/game/ds/Luminous/
Aside from a character and a story section it also has a developers blog. Anyone care to translate?  ;)

Ah well, looking forward to this  :)

Spore: General / Well Steve, only right a little so far
« on: May 12, 2006, 03:45:18 pm »
Who else remembered Steve's announcement that this E3 we would get more info about Spore than we ever wanted? So far, it's been pretty sparse, I for myself wanna see much more of the Space mode... or the Civ mode. Heck ANYTHING in greater depth except maybe amobea stage ;)

Question to Steve: did you get the chance to take a look at it at GDC?

PC Games / The Heroes of Might and Magic 5 demo is out!
« on: April 19, 2006, 03:40:51 pm »
You can get it at the regular places  ;D

So, what's your opinions?

Mine is it simply rocks, especially compared to the buggy, unfinished open beta. The Heroes series is reborn and will probably be around to stay  ;D

A fun, quirky puzzle game best described as a mix of Lemmings and Incredible Machine.

PC Games / Rol demo reply by Tim Train himself
« on: April 04, 2006, 03:15:03 pm »
Hi all,

I want to thank everyone who has downloaded the demo for Rise of Legends. We really appreciate the time everyone has taken to play the demo and post feedback on their impressions. We are aware of a number of issues with the current build of the demo, including problems with crashes, AI, and performance.

In retrospect, Big Huge was over-optimistic about the quality of the build. We allowed our excitement to get the build into the hands of gamers to override our concerns with shipping a demo made from unfinished, pre-release code, and I regret any inconvenience that resulted. I'm posting a similar message to other discussion boards where people have reported problems.

In the future, we will be more careful to be sure our demo releases are more representative of the final game. It's great that most people are having a good time with the build even in its unpolished state, and please keep sending us both positive and negative feedback so we can make this game even better.

We are looking forward to getting a new demo out to the community so they can get a taste of Rise of Legends in its final state. The next version of the demo will be based on final code, have new content to check out, and will be out before the game is released.

Thanks for all your support, feedback, and encouragement!

PC Games / WoW 1.10
« on: March 04, 2006, 02:32:28 pm »
Well, there are some definitely interesting changes in there:
http://www.worldofwar.net/patches/preview/1-10.php

Most notably Improvement of drops in the 5-10 man instances, higher drop rates and quest experience to gold conversion at level 60... good for epic mounts, but the economy will change a lot from it. And everyone who bought gold so far is pretty screwed due to the easy of getting gold as lvl60 now.

Discuss away  :)

Site News / GamingSteve in the media!!
« on: February 22, 2006, 07:40:19 am »
Yep, got my new PcGames (German magazine) today and guess what? Stephen Glicker is noted. Actually, he got almost half a page quoting him left and right on his text about Beelzebub 3 from Snowstorm.
They described Steve as someone who is up to his head in rumours and has a lot of inside connections. Maybe we'll see some new members from this.

Way to go, Steve  :D

PC Games / This gaming-years outlook
« on: February 12, 2006, 10:28:22 am »
So, I hope everyone will have to contribute something interesting, I make a start:

*)My personal favorite in styled graphics will pretty certainly be "Rise of Legends". Haven't seen such great design ideas in a looong time.
http://www.bighugegames.com/riseoflegends/

*)Best round strategy... hmmm. either "Heroes of Might and Magic 5" or "Galactic Civilizations II: Dreadlords". Heroes 5 could also be my runner-up in good design  ;D
http://www.mightandmagicgame.com/
http://www.galciv2.com/

*)Most innovative gameplay and idea... well, that will very certainly be Spore. And if you don't know spore it means you are visiting GamingSteve for the first time, listen to some podcasts quick  :D
http://spore.ea.com/

*)Hmmm... ego-shooter. Nope, nothing, the last I looked at was HalfLife 2 and that was it. Anything on the horizon that could compare to such a great experience?

*)Best RTS probably "Rise of Legends". Though I really got into the BfME2 demo... EaW... will see about that in a week.

*)Most bleeding edge graphics... don't know, clue me in. Next Unreal?

Well, there you have it, my personal limited gaming-outlook 2006. So, what have I left out? Happily awaiting answers  ;D
