Spore: General / PanSpermia Meteor - A Possible UFO Tool
« on: March 09, 2006, 12:08:48 am »
Forgive me if this has been discussed earlier but I couldn't find any existing topics.

For those who might not know, the theory of Pan Spermia claims that early bacterial life could have "crash-landed" on primordial Earth on an asteroid.  That bacteria then grew and evolved into the life we now know today.

My question is:  Wouldn't that make an interesting UFO tool you could use BEFORE (or after if you want) you develop the Interstellar Drive?  Just think, you go into your editor and create a simple bacterial creature (or simply select one from your own home world), encase it in a nice, big, strong asteroid, and launch your rock towards some distant star system.  If you're lucky, the rock hits on some nice fertile planet, your bacteria survives and "BINGO!!" a new planet to start over on.

The odds of the bacteria evolving to an exact match of your original creature would be low (if not impossible), but it could provide some other benefit.  Maybe creatures that evolve from your Pan Spermia colony are easier to cross-breed with your original creatures.

Who knows?

I'm just throwing the idea out there.  Enjoy.

Spore: General / My Wishlist for Spore
« on: March 21, 2005, 10:37:02 pm »
I know some of these are either confirmed to be included in Spore or are assumed, but I figured I'd list everything anyway:

1)  No Set Connection Points for limbs/appendages/etc.... - if I want to put a 4 foot long arm on my creature's head, let me.  ;D

2)  Customizable Coloring - I'd like to pick my creature's coloring myself.

3)  Exterior Creature Editor - I'd like to play around and create creatures without having to be in the game itself.

4)  Content Manager - A must to rid my world of the walking penises and any other creatures I simply DO NOT LIKE!!

5)  Mutant Killer Frogs - because they ROCK!!

That's all I can think of for now.   ;D  I'm sure I'll think of more as the time goes by...

What do you guys want?

Spore: General / The Evolutionary History of Man (For Comparison)
« on: March 21, 2005, 09:21:17 pm »
Just to help everyone think ahead to their creatures (and I have nothing better to do), I present to you the Evolutionary History of Homo Sapien Sapien (Humans) as best I can remember from my anthropology class.....

More than likely, the primates evolved from a tree dwelling rodent.  Once firmly based in the trees, the early primates began to evolve for tree-dwelling benefits.   These were:

1)  Forward facing eyes - this provided stereoscopic vision which aided in aiming for distant tree branches accurately.

2)  Color vision - this allowed the early primates to identify which fruits might be rotten or not quite ripe.

3)  Grasping hands - obviously, this allowed early primates to hold onto the tree branches easier.

4)  Increased brain power - allowed the early primates to coordinate all the above actions better.

5)  Diminished sense of smell - living in tree allowed the early primates to reduce their need to smell predators and this saved brain power for the other senses (sight and touch most importantly)

The end result of this prepped the stage for the evolution of primates into the smartest creatures on Earth.

I'll detail the next step in the next post...
