Everything Else / near death experiences
« on: May 23, 2006, 01:07:09 pm »
Well i did a search and ran across a couple topics by the same person about his near death experiences, and decided to try to get people's experiences in the same thread. I have had a couple so far. Both occurred when i was younger. The first was when i was like 6 or 7 years old. I was at my uncle's cabin, everyone was swimming and the adults where on the shore. I decided to try to be big and jump off the end of the dock. The trouble is, i was not a good swimmer at the time. No one noticed me jump. Later i was told the only reason i didn't die that day was because someone asked where i was. They looked and only saw my hand above the water. I have no idea how long i was under water, but i should have died that day. I remember being very calm though when it happend. I wasn't scared, i remember that.

The other time i was probably in about 6th grade and was sitting on the recliner. My mother would use an electric heating pad at the time and it was plugged in. The time came for me to go to school and i quickly got out of the recliner. I didn't know this, but the heating pad had fallen in between the seat and the footrest. As i got up, i closed the footrest, severing the cord in the chair. I had no idea this happened. As i got home that day form school my mom took me aside and hugged me, saying that i am lucky to have not been electrocuted.

I have also almost been run off the road while on my motorcycle by a lorry. Strange how i was calm at that moment too, and it wasn't until after i powered through ahead that i got shaky from almost having that accident.

Wonder how many times we have almost died, but not been aware of it.

Everything Else / strange words
« on: February 27, 2006, 12:20:24 pm »
OK, i know that this will seem strange to you guys. Every once in a while i am typing a word out, or just saying it to someone, and it strikes me as a weird sounding or a weirdly spelled word. Something about the association of that particular manipulation and connection of sounds to that certain object just doesn't seem right.

I remember thinking that the sound of the word "road" did not really fit.

So what i wonder is, has any of you also had this experience? and if so, to what word?

Everything Else / spellcheck name

i am not sure where to put this, so if it's in teh wrong spot, can someone move it?

Well i am a spellcheck user, for which all can be greateful. I go through and spell check almost every post before posting it. Now when people's names are in the post, i find it interesting to see what comes up as a correction.

so, what is the first suggestion for your names?

However, i was wondering if there is a way to find out what number i am on the list. I am the first on the 15th page of the member list, and some people surprised me as to when they joined. Just wondering if there was a way to know.

PC Games / MMORPG's
« on: January 25, 2006, 12:00:32 pm »
I like MMORPGs in concept. My first one was The Realm. It was a wonderful 2d game that still exists pretty strong, but i can't play it, it's only for PC.  That was a tangent, sorry.

Everquest was neat for me to try out, and i would want to play it still, but i cannot invest the time it takes to level up. It takes me forever because i like to explore more than fight. I had a hard time finding people who would take time out to talk to a newbie. Everyone was way too into whatever they were doing to give me the time of day. So i couldn't really get a party going.

I am not interested in WoW. Seems too much of the same. Guildwars is also not my cup of tea. (actually it is, as i don't like tea much at all) Sims Online? no thanks. Ultima Online? not really. The problem is this. I am a casual gamer, not an addict, and not someone who is going to spend 4 hours a night grinding out in the same area of a game, fighting the same creatures. It holds little appeal to me.

What i do like is the community possibility. I like being with people who see that the game is only that. One where you don't have to spend a month's work in gaining a level. Is there an answer to this?  Is there a MMORPG that will fit this?

anyone...?  anyone...?
