Movies / Watchmen

The trailer for the film adaptation of the highly acclaimed comic book of the same name (Watchmen :P) just came out today!  Has anyone else been looking forward to this as much as I have.  After seeing the trailer, which is awesome, I am finding it to be more true to the source material than I could have believed.  You can literally go back to the comic and point out the scenes featured in this trailer (you can check it out on the movies webpage).
Anyone else have thoughts on the movie?

Books / Watchmen

I started reading this masterpiece of a graphic novel again and I just felt like letting you all know that its probably one of the best things I have read. If you haven't read it then I definitely recommend it.  For those of you who have why not discuss our opinions on wether or not we agree with what some of the characters did and such.

PC Games / Lord of the Rings Online- GS GotY
« on: December 18, 2007, 11:18:14 pm »
Couldn't find a previous topic for this game so lets get one started for discussion and possible in-game forum member action.

I just got the game myself after having finally been swayed by Steve's review to give LotRO a try.  So lets all head over to Steve's realm, Silverlode, and group up and perhaps even start a GS kinship in the game.  I'll post my character name as soon as I update the client and get one started.  This may only work for those of us based in the US since the European clients are different but feel free to start something across the pond here on the topic too.

PC Games / Vanguard: Saga of Heroes- Beta
« on: January 05, 2007, 04:29:50 pm »
The last phase of beta for Vanguard has begun.  I may or may not have gotten into it to and am now seeing if its worth getting at release  ::).

Are any of you all in the same situation I am  :P.  If so what are your guys impressions of the game and if you like we could set up groups for people who may or may not be participating in beta to do those group quests.

PC Games / Neverwinter Nights 2 Campaign Group
« on: November 15, 2006, 05:53:13 pm »
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone here would like to start a multiplayer group to go through the story mode.  I know that you can just find some random place online but I think it would be more fun if we could get a consistent group together to play through it.  So if anyone is up for it please post here and state what kind of character you would be interested in playing as so we can get a balanced group.

Spore: General / Uplift to the next level.

So I was thinking about the monoliths and how awsome it would be to bring another species to sentient status and have them worship like Will Wright mentioned in his interview.

Then I thought that in theory I could create a new creature from scratch after I get genetic engineering then plant then on a nearby planet so I can have a nearby smart creature to spend my time messing around with.  That got me thinking if it would be possible to terraform all the planets that can be made into habitable worlds in my solar system then plant those planets with species I created.  After all that hard work perhaps I could bring all those creatures up into the technological level with monoliths.  I would at that point create a diverse alliance with several members all in the same solar system.

Do you all think this would be something I could do in the game?  What do you guys think of this idea, any of you have similar things you would like to do.

TV / Battlestar Galactica

The second half of the second season just started off in Sci-fi so I decided to start a thread on this awesome show.  I am suprised such a great show hasn't ended up with a thread here so I am guessing there aren't any fans of the show here.
If there are what did you all think of this past episode Resurrection Ship Part 1.  That one was intense.  :o

Movies / Pulp Fiction

I saw this movie again recently so I though i would make a thread about it.  Its a Tarantino film so you know its good.  I really like the film and I am wondering if you guys like it too.  If you haven't seen it then do so as soon as possible.  "Bring out the gimp."

PC Games / Knights of Honor

I saw the review for this game on GameSpot and was interested so I downloaded the demo. Its a great game in my opinion I really enjoyed it. It sort of plays like Medieval: Total War but the part that sets it different is that it is all realtime. You can choose from three of the periods of middle ages when you start a game and then you go to a kingdom selection screen were you can pick your kingdom from any of the ones that existed back then. There are a bunch of kingdoms in this game, I beleive the little demo advertisement like 200 kingdoms. Even the African kingdoms are availble. Game intereface is pretty easy and quick to get into. There is a very helpful tutorial to get you started which is great.

As far as gameplay goes, I think its fun. You choose which faction and them you get in the game. Most of the gameplay revolves around maintaining a Royal Court. This can include knights or member of the royal family which can enter it for free. You can assign the members of the court to the specific things. You can make them become merchants to trade with other kingdoms, or become marshals to make armies. They can also be spies and clerics. Spies are great, they can be used to infiltrate other kingdoms and be assigned as knights to their court. If they become marshals you can make them start an army revolt. If they are merchants they can steal money for you and many other things.

Like I mentioned its all in realtime. There is no turn taking just constant gameplay. The diplomacy system is quite fulfilled in my opinion. It has alot of options making it interesting when you are allied with a faction that goes to war with another allied faction. Choose your friends carefully. Although the AI is also a bit easy it is still enjoyable. My biggest gripe with the game is the combat. It is reletivly simple. Mostly formation combat similar to that of Medieval Total War but you can have the computer fight it for you so you can send reinforcements since the game is real time.

You can find the gamespot review here
I agree with their review so I give it an 8 out of 10

Site News / Review section
« on: June 27, 2005, 09:28:48 pm »
Hey Steve I was wondering if it is not to much trouble if there could be a review section in the forums were you post the reviews you have done in a thread for each.  People could discuss what they think about that game you reviewed.  This may be asking to much from you Steve since you are busy but maybe you could add reviews to other games you don't have room to fit in the podcasts.

People could also post their own reviews if they are willing to commit to a detailed reveiw such as the ones you do for your podcasts.  Also, if a section in the forums is too much to ask may I suggest just adding the reviews to some sort of database were you could just list the name of the game, the score, and which podcasts its on.  So we can keep track since the reviews are starting to mount up. In advance thanks for taking the time Steve.

Music / Favorite song thread.
« on: June 20, 2005, 10:23:32 pm »
I thought that I should start a thread so that people could post their favorite songs.  You can post more than one if going with one song is out of the question. Here are mine.

Favorite song with words: Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones
Favorite song without words: Megaman 2 by The Minibosses

Books / Recommend any books?
« on: June 18, 2005, 09:41:58 pm »
Well to put it basiclly I would like to read a new book.  I have no idea what to read next.  I would like to go to another sci fi book since I just finished reading the 5 Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (I bought then all in one book collection called The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy).

If you all would be kind enough to recommend a book I am looking somewere along the lines of a sci fi genre.  I would like it to be long, around over 800 pages or a series of a handfull of books.  I would also like it if it were funny since I just got off the Hitchhikers Guide series.

Movies / Movies about time travel
« on: June 02, 2005, 07:51:35 pm »
I think that there aren't enough big blockbuster time travel movies.  The most famous one is probably Back to the Future and its sequels and of course there are others and some more unknown ones like 12 Monkeys.  I think that there should be more movies on time travel that get you thinking and that are filled with interesting plots.  Do you all know of any good time travel movies that you would all recomend or know of any promising movies currently in production.

PC Games / My MMO idea
« on: May 31, 2005, 09:57:48 pm »
Ever since I heard about Planetside, the MMOFPS by SOE, I have been wondering about what other MMOs they could make.  One thing I would like to see is or I should say I hope someone at some point soon gets made is an MMORTS.  I think in my head about massive battles and such and how that would just make me happy to shell out a monthly fee to play.  Of course I have no idea how an RTS could work as an MMO but hey I like to dream.  I would like to hear what you guys think of that kind of game or if it is even possibly being developed somewere.
