PC Games / Shadows of Isildur MUD
« on: January 25, 2006, 12:24:11 am »
I've been playing a MUD by the name of Shadows of Isildur for quite a while now, and I thought that I would give you guys the chance to play it as well.

http://www.middle-earth.us/

It is a Middle-Earth based MUD that requires role-playing of the highest calibre. Here is a miniaturized list of its features;

  • Constant development by an active team of talented volunteers.
  • An account-based login system, with roleplay point awards.
  • An extensive help database, available both online and in-game.
  • Skill-based advancement system, featuring over 100 functional skills.
  • A realistically brutal, wounds-based damage system.
  • An incredibly deep and complex player literacy system.
  • A branch-based crafter's paradise with over a thousand authentic crafts.
  • Devastating ranged and thrown weapons systems.
  • An entirely player-controlled clan system, complete with ranks and privileges.
  • Fully persistent dwelling code - your PC's home away from home!
  • A tracking system - and NPCs smart enough to hunt you with it.
  • Completely seamless "soft reboot" and crash recovery systems.
  • Multiple systems of coinage and currency.
  • An automated weekly e-mail update.
  • A full-featured mudmailer to keep in touch with fellow players.
  • Housed on a completely dedicated, high-speed machine.

I would appreciate it if everyone here would contribute a list of vampire movies that they've enjoyed. Try not to repeat what others have said. I'll start it off;

Bram Stoker's Dracula
Lost Boys
Fright Night
Interview with a Vampire
Underworld

PC Games / Galactic Civilizations and Stardock
« on: December 06, 2005, 01:42:47 pm »
I wanted to bring to everyone's attention what could possibly be the next best 4X game. It is Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords, by Stardock.

http://www.galciv2.com/

First off, I would like to say that the first GalCiv was amazing. It had great design with a flawless presentation, great AI, and good gameplay that was really only hindered by the marginal combat system. This, however, is not what I liked the most about GalCiv; no, what truly elevated my enjoyment of it was Stardock.

Stardock, the company that made it, is phenomenal. They have excellent, excellent support that I've never seen for a game before. They were constantly adding to the game and refining it, taking player input with utmost regard. This alone made GalCiv something truly special.

Anyway, I urge everyone here to check out the first GalCiv and to take a look at the new one coming up. You likely won't be disappointed.

Ps; Stardock, you rule.

« on: October 04, 2005, 03:46:08 pm »
I've been playing this MUD for a week or so now. It is set in Middle-Earth, 500 years before the War of the Ring. It is absolutely amazing, so I wanted to share it with you guys.
