Books / Books You Wrote
« on: August 05, 2015, 05:08:16 am »
This is a thread for writings you've produced yourself.

I just started my first major writing project in, uh, ever.

Here are the first few pages. I'd like to know if it's crap before I continue with it.

Thanks in advance for the criticism.

PC Games / Loadout: No, the OTHER Customization-Heavy Cartoony FtP Shooter
« on: February 18, 2014, 04:34:24 pm »
Loadout!

If you haven't already seen it, it's a third-person shooter with very cartoony proportions and ridiculous levels of blood and gore, oft compared to TF2. It was in early access a while back, and the point of it is essentially the ability to make your guns in whichever way you so please- choosing a different ammo type, stock, barrel, elemental types, etc. all with different effects on how the gun feels and plays.

It's got a microtransaction store (again, like TF2) but isn't really pay-to-win like some other games with similar things. Most of the ingame currency, Spacebux, is spent on customization items like jackets, beards, hats, and most notably a penis.

The game allows your character to be one of the three most common races: Black, White, and Female. There are no such things as classes, as you can simply change aspects of your character/metagame through change of your guns and abilities! You get two guns and one ability per Loadout, you get more loadouts through leveling up,

It's quite fun! The gameplay has a tendency to be very hectic. There are three casual modes: Blitz, Death Snatch, Extraction, and Death Hammer.

Blitz is point-capturing with very little twist.

Death Snatch plays like a deathmatch would but for the fact that one team wins via it's members confirming the kills of the other by grabbing vials off their bodies.

Extraction is something I can't think of an analogy for. One member of the team is designated the collector, and must grab crystals scattered about the map and put them in receptacles to get the team points. The other three members of the team protect the collector and try to kill the other teams collector. If the collector dies, a new one is chosen randomly after a small delay.

Death Hammer is very similar to TF2's Capture the flag, except you can't carry any weapons when you're carrying the hammer, The hammer has an instant-one-hit-kill melee attack, and the hammer is more valuable pointswise the more people have been killed with it. (Okay, maybe not very similar, but the gist is the same.)

Then there is the "Competetive" version of the game, which has one one gamemode: Annihilation. It's a combination of all the others.

This game is Free to Play on Steam, so there's no harm in picking it up.

PC Games / Terminus
« on: September 13, 2013, 02:50:45 pm »
HEY HOW ABOUT SOME MORE KICKSTARTER GUYS

Yes, another one! This is Terminus, a realtime city-management game in space! Seems a bit like Sim City combined with Dwarf Fortress. Randomly generated planets that you have to colonize and survive on, acting as a city director sort of person who decides where buildings go and what they do.

There will be various hazards and random events happening during the game, most of which are going to **** you over! You can choose either to try to fix what's happening or cut off that part of the colony to die in cases of disease, fire, or hull breach.

From the Kickstarter page:

"Starting from classic city builders of the genre, Terminus takes the terrifying leap into the frontier of space where every new game and new colonization effort bring a wildly different experience on a new, procedurally generated planet.

You are the administrator of the colony and it's your mission to keep humanity going by any means possible. Colonists are mouths to feed, supplies are dwindling and almost everything is non-renewable."

Looks like it could be interesting.

Everything Else / Guilty (Dis)Pleasures!

This is a thread for you to talk about things most people dislike that you like! Or, vice-versa, things that you dislike that most people like! Music, games, movies, anything is fair game! Anything you'd be embarrassed to admit to liking or disliking, too.

Please note that this is not the "oh my god i can't believe you like that haha i'm going to **** on your opinion" thread. You can ask people why they like something if they don't explain it, but try to keep dickishness to a minimum.

To start things off, I've always been a fan of Mika. Mika songs tend to cheer me up when I'm down, so I don't listen to them all the time, but they'll always have a place in my heart. I'm also not a huge fan of Coldplay; they're alright, I guess, but I don't understand how they got so big.

I also put milk, eggs, and hot sauce in my ramen. Most people seem so disgusted when I tell them that, but it's just what I do. If I have it on hand I'll put in onions and breakfast meats (bacon, sausage) too.

I would call the mods something, but at the risk of more permutations of my name I'd rather not.

Anyways, this is the thread where people as other people stuff.

Right now, the person to ask things is me. I suppose that every once in a while, whenever you all tire of me, some other people will offer their names and a poll will be made.

After you've gone, I guess you can't go again for two iterations or something. Depends on how long an iteration of this runs.

So ask away.

PC Games / Project Brutal
« on: February 06, 2011, 03:30:13 pm »
I've been wondering if anyone here has found this little game here.

I found it on Notch's Twitter, and I really like it. It's in an early stage, but it's still a pretty nice timewaster. I would advise playing it if you like little flash games. It's supposed to have a big update soon.

So go ahead. Click on that link up there. You know you want to.

PC Games / Improbable Island
« on: January 26, 2010, 07:52:29 pm »
I posted a link to this game before, in the off-topic thread I think. But, as it is it's own game, and a pretty good one at that, (At least in my opinion) it deserves it's own topic.

http://www.improbableisland.com/home.php?r=Rinulus

It's a text based game. You click on options in the menu, or you press their corresponding letters. I can't copy any text from the game, whenever I try, it sends me to the Council Offices, the place that corresponds with "c".

Storytelling and Roleplaying / The Story of Way Island
« on: December 29, 2009, 10:57:17 am »
So now that I've experimented with my other RPs, I think it's time to create a solid one.

You wake up. You cant remember... anything. You try, and bits and pieces come back to you. An argument... With a woman... Your wife? ... Leaving, slamming the door, getting raging drunk, getting into a fight... That's all. You sit up and look around. You can see that you are on a deserted island, sitting on the shore, a few meters away from the water. You are about fifty yards away from a dense forest behind you. The sea looks... odd. There appear to be things swimming in the water, but on closer inspection, they aren't there. You stand up. You realize that you don't even know your name. What is it?

(Please post your vote for the name)

So, since people have lost interest in Spore:The Search for Perfection, I've decided to make another game.

You are a life. You will be the first life ever to be able to consciously alter their form, if you have absorbed enough mass to do it. Now, what type of life should we be?

Movies / Twilight Saga: New Moon.
« on: November 20, 2009, 12:34:01 pm »
Oh my god, this movie is fantastic. The first one was good, but this one... Wow. I'm not going to give any spoilers, but it follows the book pretty closely. Some scenes are really loud, though that's probably what you'd expect, considering the actiony nature of the scenes. This movie was just... Wow. Go watch it. Now.

Console Games / Desicion topic.
« on: November 16, 2009, 03:51:00 pm »
So, yeah, I'm trying to make a decision. I have some extra money (Enough to buy a Wii game), and I'm trying to decide whether to get New Super Mario Bros. Wii, or Twilight Princess. They both sound (and look) pretty good, and I'm having a little trouble deciding which one to get. So, just tell me what you would get in your position(and, if you can, why), and I'll probably lock this topic as soon as I make a decision.

Everything Else / Holiday avatars!
« on: November 14, 2009, 03:00:40 pm »
So, yeah. Since the Halloween avatars thread didn't work, I thought I would make a thread so that when a holiday rolls around, we can ressurrect this topic and show off our new, holiday-themed avatars, if you have one. As you can see, I have minorly changed my avatar. It's not much, but, you know. Orange.

Storytelling and Roleplaying / Dues Ex
« on: November 06, 2009, 02:55:35 pm »
So, I thought that I had an at least good idea for an RP. The premise is this:

I am a dark sea of chaos, able to create things. That's about it, though the things I create are always gods. If you wish to be a god, the creation form is this:

Name:Self-explanatory.
Description:Physical description, you don't have to be human or humanoid.
Rule over:What you have control over, doesn't have any meaning until a universe is created, also you cannot take a power that someone else already has.

Based on me, a bare bones creation sheet:

Name:Qi, Chaos, Creator of Creators, ect.
Description:Formless, dark sea of swirling chaos.
Rule over:Creating gods.

It's first come, first serve, so don't complain if someone else gets a power that you wanted.

Spore: Roleplaying and Story Games / Spore: The Search for Perfection
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:05:06 pm »
In an ammonia sea on a forgotten and alone planet far, far away from ours, odd silicon molecules are forming together. They eventually start to clump into much larger and complex shapes, and eventually formed life. This life (A small cell which shall be named Vegrandis Ieiunium) was the first life on this planet (Called Matris Locus), except for some bacteria like cells. It drifted past many of these cells, which it did not notice. It bumped into a small particle, something close to a bacterium. It absorbed the thing, and it's hunger (Or something like it) was appeased.

(What should we do now? Also, sorry for all those posts before, and my noobish writing)

the rules are just the usual right now, I will add them as I see fit.
