Spore: General / Will Wright's AWESOME GDC'05 SPORE demo video
« on: May 11, 2006, 12:12:35 pm »
**Note this video is from the 2005 GDC presentation**

Fantastic video of Will Wright's presentation at February's Game Developer Conference and an indepth demo of SPORE. More to the point the latest game trailer takes what Will did in his demo almost verbatim.

Spore: General / AI-driven PC content in space?
« on: May 11, 2006, 12:11:14 pm »
Besides the planet based player content are there plans to expand this to space driven player content? No doubt there is going to be hundreds of players who reach the space phase. This would be cool because the game could morph in a kind of Elite or Star Command model. :D

Podcasts / XBOX 360 is making me sick!
« on: October 24, 2005, 09:56:55 pm »
Let me be abundantly clear I love Steve's podcast. Besides all the 360 talk it's a pretty balanced show. You mix things up with SporeTalk which I'm totally looking forward too on the PC and I thank you.

Tonight I went on a podcasting binge and subscribed to just about every gaming podcast that got high relevancy. Holy crap! What in the hell is the deal with 360?!  Why is every, freaking, podcast yapping it up about the 360 console? I don't mind one or two podcasts but it's like you'd swear Microsoft paid EVERY podcaster to talk about their console nonstop from here until new years! When are we going to hear about Nintendo’s revolution? When are we going to hear about PC games? When am I going to get a freaking MMORPG PC gaming podcast! ??? I think I need a hug  :'(

Everything Else / Grand Theft Auto: The Man
« on: October 02, 2005, 06:01:29 pm »
Imagine the GTA franchise from the viewpoint of police officers trying to shut down the criminals and mafia from the original GTA games. You start off as a rookie officer and advance to detective, then undercover, and later Police Commissioner. Rockstar could go back and retell the story starting with GTA3.

Maybe one day we'll see GTA Online. All cities from all their games including GTA 1 and 2 would exist in a persistent world. You could choose between two sides: organized crime and the criminal underground or the police force and FBI, with each having pros and cons. I think the Guild Wars model would be popular. Rockstar would release small episodic content at $15.00 each. Factions would be similiar to WOW with one difference: lower and upper division ranks. Rank 1 would be the Criminal Underground and Police force (lower) and they would battle one another. Rank 1 would also be restricted to which city they dwell in. Rank 2 would be Organized Crime and the FBI (upper) and they would battle one another and rank 1 factions. Rank 2 wouldn't be restricted to one city. Rank 2 would have jurisdiction over rank 1. To get to rank 2 you would have to work your butt off in rank 1. In either faction advancement to rank 2 wouldn't be easy or guaranteed because of politics and the life expectancy on both sides is low. One concept to make gameplay challenging would center around death. If you die you would start over. This is how EVE Online does things. If your ship explodes you have to rebuild. I think this would add a Rockstar edge to GTA online.

These are my ideas. I'm sure you have ideas of your own.

Podcasts / Podcasts to complement Steve's
« on: August 16, 2005, 11:12:14 pm »
At one time I had like 30 gaming Podcasts and over the past weeks have been narrowing down the list. The following are on par with Steve's and I recommend you add them to augment you gameCast listening experience:

Broadcast Gamer
Gamer's Radiocast
Geek Speek Radio (tends to detour into hardware, but they still have a good deal of gaming stuff)

If you use iTunes simply enter the name in search. Enjoy!

Spore: General / Ecosystems?
« on: August 16, 2005, 12:47:36 am »
Scenario time. Let's say during the course of play that an organism mutates into parasite. It's harming all my creatures save one that feeds on them. These creatures that feed on the parasites happen to be a main food source for the creatures I've been paying extra attention too. In an attempt to do population control, I decide to kill off the parasite. In taking this action will the ecosystem change to something where...

A. The creatures that fed off these parasites will die?
B. The creatures that fed off the creatures that ate the parasites will either die or adapt and find a new source of food?
C. There's not enough of a new source of food to feed both my main creatures and other creatures...
D. Could this ultimately lead to a kobayashi maru scenerio on the ecosystem where nothing I do will save any life?
