Spore: Sporepedia Exchange / The Rising Star Achievement Thread
« on: January 14, 2009, 08:06:02 am »
I was looking through threads here, trying to get the Rising Star achievement (have 5 sporecasts subscribed to by over 10 people each), when I noticed that, well, there isn't one! So...
To put it simply, this thread is for posting five Sporecasts of yours so that people can sign up. In return, the person should also subscribe to other people's sporecasts in the thread too, presuming that they're below 11 subscribers. A "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" thing.
Once you get the achievement, I strongly reccomend you edit your post to say to.
Even if you don't play the game, keep in mind that you can easily subscribe by just logging in online and clicking the 'subscribe' button. Do it out of kindness.

So to start it off, here's my 5 threads. I made them only have 1 creation each so that you lot don't need to delete any crappy creations that would be in them otherwise. Nobody else needs to, I was just doing it out of generosity.
[#1] - [#2] - [#3] - [#4] - [#5]
I'll delete them when I get the badge, so no need to unsubscribe later.

Spore: General / The Emperor's New Galaxy
« on: December 01, 2008, 07:14:38 am »

Or, to put it more seriously, I've got a problem: whenever I play in the Space stage, a LOT of the particles (aka: effects) don't appear. It's just a new thing, and it only happens in the space stage, but its a big problem. Mostly because nearly everything in the Space stage uses particles, as you can see.
Changing any of the settings doesn't help. Well, it worked the first two times (until I turned off the computer), but it doesn't work anymore.
And the oddest part is that what effects are missing seems to be random too. Sometimes, no effects at all show, sometimes a random fraction of all stars, lines, circles and engine trails show. Even when moving around the individual Allies and Enemies circles keep shifting between visible and not visible.
Oh, and after exiting the space stage game and into the main menu, the planets don't show up.

And, for more screenshots:
The spice dried up. And so did my engine, apparently.
A pretty nifty screenshot of the galaxy sans effects.
And it looks like somebody stole the Galactic Core behind my back!

Using Vista and patch 1.3 by the way.

Spore: General / New Patch Out
« on: November 17, 2008, 10:30:29 am »
Woo for extra parts! I'm currently installing it now.

Also, did anyone else get this 'message'?
What's weirder is that this showed up before it connected my profile online. And it showed up twice (the first time, I didn't install the patch, just downloaded)

Sorry if it's already been figured out, but I did a search and came up nothing.

So anyway, I was getting fed up with having to deal with really really crap creations, and decided to switch to Buddy Only mode. When I did, I noticed that there was a lot of creations still in the Sporepedia that weren't mine. And they were all from sporecasts. So.... a step by step guide on how to make this happen:

1: Before starting the game, go to the on-site Sporepedia and subscribe to all the Sporecasts you want to have. Or, if not in buddy mode, subscribe in-game. It doesn't really matter.
2: Load up the game. Play a while, or just leave it running, to give the creations a chance to be downloaded. You don't have to switch modes yet, they'll still be downloaded even when in Buddy Only mode, they just won't show up on the Sporepedia. When the galaxy symbol in the corner stops spinning, it means the creations have finished downloading. Or your connection died.
3: If in Buddy Only mode, turn it off by going into the settings.
4: Using the in-game Sporepedia, unsubscribe from all those sporecast(s). I'm pretty sure that the trick doesn't work if you use the on-site one.
5: Once unsubscribed from them all, check to make sure that the sporecast isn't listed in the in-game Sporepedia anymore. If it is, then it means you're connection is slowing up. If there's nothing wrong with the connection normally, I find restarting the computer helps. If you did, go back to step 4.
6: Turn on Buddy Only mode. Check the Everything section of the in-game Sporepedia to make sure the Sporecast-downloaded creations are there. If they aren't, make sure you did it right, then come back to this thread.

Also, some pointers:
1: Buddy Only mode will archive all the randomly downloaded creations. They won't appear while still in Buddy Only mode, but they will when you go back to normal mode. This also means it's fully safe to pop out of Buddy Only mode, as only creations from Sporecasts will stay.
2: When you switch modes, all your deleted creations come back. Set some time aside for some mass deleting in your My Creations folder when you're finished. Also note that, if you deleted your Pollination.package file at one point (which holds all downloaded creations), this will give you back all your Cells and Music. --Edit: hmm, this is odd. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
3: While in Buddy Only mode, you can still use Sporecasts for themed games even though they don't show up in the Sporepeda, providing you re-subscribed to them after doing this trick.
4: There's a bug whereby, if a creation is downloaded to your comp in a Sporecast before it's downloaded to your comp from the Buddy's list will prevent it from showing up in the Buddy's Only list until you do this trick and re-subscribe again. AFAIK, this means if one of your buddy's creations get added to a Sporecast you subscribed to, it has a 1/2 chance of not showing up until re-subscription. This means that you should only keep a subscription to a Sporecast if you want to make use of it via #3 and are willing to re-subscribe regularly.
5: I'd reccomend using this trick on one of those Sporecasts full of featured content. Featured creations can't be downloaded as normal from the MySpore Page while in Buddy Only mode.

Hope this helps anyone who, like me, only wants that 10% of everything.
