Music / Another One Bites The Dust
« on: September 18, 2009, 08:19:30 pm »
I love this song.
Especially the chorus.
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

Forum Games / Directions
« on: August 17, 2009, 07:23:50 pm »
The way this game works is simple.  You have to follow the directions of the poster above you, to give directions to the poster below you.  Directions can only effect what is actually typed and submitted, and not real life actions.

Example:
Poster 1:Next post has to be backwards, including having every letter be last-letter-to-first-letter.
Poster 2:.spaclla eb ot sah tsop txeN.
Poster 3:NEXT POST CAN'T HAVE VOWELS.
Poster 4:Nxt pst hs t b in 1337-5p34k.

Start!

Next post has to have every word capitalized.

Spore: Creation Corner / [NC] The Flow
« on: July 14, 2009, 02:56:10 pm »
The Flow is a race of fur-covered creatures.  They vary to some degree in appearance, but in general all of them have the following in common:
-Covered in fur
-Has an exoskeleton
-About three inches long minimum
The Flow do not consider the existence of an individual and group, because of their alien sense of self.  They do not have one self with which they remain for their entire life, but merge and demerge from other selves.  (From the point of view of many theologians, this would mean that they do not have souls, or perhaps have some sort of alien soul.)
The Flow function like a hivemind in that an individual member posesses little intelligence, but when put together, they have intelligence.  The Flow are divided into three Types, Ends, Connectors and Splits.  The Ends are divided into thousands of niches, though only a few niches are very common.  Splits are only divided into about three niches, and connectors only one.
The Flow have a sort of organ on them called a Dot.  You can tell what Type an individual is by how many Dots it has.  Ends have one Dot, Connectors have two, and Splits have three or more.  When the dot of one individual touches the dot of another individual, they think as one being.  Furthermore, energy can be transmitted through dots, meaning that only one part of such a being needs to eat food (though it needs to eat enough food for all of them).  Beings made from more than one Flow individual are called Chains.
The purpose of an End is to carry out some task.  One niche of End is the Seer, these detect light and comprehend the resulting image.  Another niche of End is meat-consumer.  Yet another is plant-consumer.  Specialized niches exist for eating things that the generic meat and plant consumers cannot eat.  One niche is devoted to creating all the other niches, including itself.  This is relatively common for obvious reasons (the species would go extinct if it died out).  When intelligence became common, a niche developed for manipulating things in order to create tools.
The purpose of a Connector is to connect Ends to Splits and other Ends, and also to move.  Every connector has twelve legs (it has three rows of legs.  At all times it has three legs under it, three legs to its left, three legs to its right, and three legs above it.  This means it does not matter how it is rotated.  The legs are retractable, and it retracts whichever legs it is not using.
The purpose of a Split is to make the Chain two rather than one dimensional.  With Splits, a Chain can have more than two Ends.  A Split has more than two Dots and as a result does not create a centipede-like line.
Every individual has a small bit of intelligence, and as a result the larger a Chain is the smarter it is.  A Chain has recognizable sapience at around one thousand individual parts.  A larger Chain could potentially be even smarter.
Culturally, Chains have invented an incredibly unusual concept.  For most of their history, there were no documents, but rather a Chain would keep information on one of its parts, and then give that part to another Chain if it needed to know the information on it.  Within the last few centuries, this practice has phased out in favor of using computers with artificial dots on them to store information.
Chains also keep pets, but their relation with them is rather odd.  The pets are themselves Chains, but smaller and unintelligent ones.  Sometimes, an owner may "incorporate" its pet, by connecting to it.
The Flow societies do not recognize murder as a crime, but purely assault.  The penalty for assault varies depending on how many individuals were destroyed, which generally DOES mean that slayers of entire Chains will get larger punishments.
It is generally considered rude to forcibly incorporate another Chain, but it is not criminal as after the event there are no complaints.
Technologically, the Flow have left their solar system three times as of this writing, but have yet to encounter alien intelligence.

TV / Schoolhouse Rock
« on: June 05, 2009, 10:57:00 pm »
Hey, does anyone remember this really, really old show?
It didn't run on TV when I was a kid, but I watched the VHS tapes and became a pretty big fan.  When the complete DVD set came out recently, I got it.  Even though I'm way past the level where the songs teach me anything, they still have enormously catch tunes.  I'll probably show them to my kids when I get older.  Oddly, if you look closely in the song "The Shot Heard Round the World", you can see a naked woman.  Wonder how that got past the censors.  ???

Spore: Roleplaying and Story Games / Discovery of the Nosgits
« on: May 16, 2009, 10:57:31 am »
((Technically this takes place in the past, as the Nosgits have been discovered long ago according to their CC thread, but we might as well RP the whole thing))
Strange signals were coming from a star.  It seemed to be teeming with a new species, despite the fact that it had never been inhabitable nor had anything been evolving.  This would require investigation...

Storytelling and Roleplaying / LIFE
« on: May 11, 2009, 08:48:57 pm »
I'm making this because I'm sort of depressed at what happened to Veraal's metagame.  Yes, my hands are quite full enough but I'm still going to try to juggle all these things.  You can expect not to see any Worldwar posts any time soon, but I'll try to update this, CIYB, CS, and MP.
Now, to begin.

You wake up in a dark cold place.  Then, you are pushed out into the world.
The dark cold place was apparently a part of something much like you, but a lot bigger.  A bunch of other things that are like you but larger carry you off to a small pen.

Spore: Creation Corner / PECG (Planet-Eating Cancerous Growth)
« on: May 03, 2009, 10:09:36 pm »
The PECG must be destroyed.  We have not yet managed to destroy the PECG, merely cut it in size.  When our organization wanes, PECG will grow to unmanageable levels.  Our organization wanes periodically, and PECG tries to destroy us whenever possible.  Our organization must be defended.  We gain our funds from civilizations, but most civilizations are too greedy to provide us with the resources we need.
We will do anything to destroy the PECG, and sometimes this makes us less moral beings.  Though this is a sad side effect of our struggle against the PECG, it is certainly worth the loss.  The PECG destroys people as long as it exists.  As the PECG is one being, it lacks the virtue of even a conquering dictator, creating a land where souls can prosper.  PECG, even if it has a soul, which we doubt, is but one but tries to consume all.
Perhaps we should explain what the PECG is.  PECG is a configuration of cells that are connected through quantum.  They can all communicate with one another, instantly.  They form goo-like substances on planets, and then they eat the planet.  They take different forms on different planets, even though it's all the same thing.  Sometimes its a disease.  Other times, it's just an all-consuming green goo.  But it always eventually becomes an all-consuming green goo.  The prime directive of the PECG is to become the only thing left.  They destroy all matter that isn't part of themselves and create more PECG cells.  Pretty soon the whole planet's PECG.  Then they break asteroids off and send them to other planets.
PECG waxes and wanes, but its tending towards waxing and over all it grows over time.  We're stopping that.  If we weren't here, you'd all be dead now.  PECG would have already eaten you, and your family, and your friends, and your enemies, and people you don't know.  It still eats people, always.  But we attack it.  We cut it down.  We're working for you.

Okay, first off, I'll admit that that was spam, and I'd like to apologize for that.

But it was spam with a point.  What I was showing was that if what Badger was doing was acceptable, than anything goes.
I think I've gotten all of those posts deleted, but if I missed any please tell me.

Spore: Creation Corner / The Nosgits
« on: May 02, 2009, 07:18:56 pm »
Noone knows why the Nosgits came, and we certainly don't know how they came.  They certainly didn't evolve, and it's unlikely that they developed in this universe, either.

We just know that they came.

It was a few centuries ago, that their settler ship appeared in an unoccupied star system.  We didn't notice at first.  Their kid's-show rocket wasn't enough to trip our radar.  They landed on the apparently uninhabitable planet orbiting the star, and from that point on that was their planet.  They called it Nosgitia.

The planet was odd, but the Nosgits themselves aren't too standard either.  Nosgits don't seem to HAVE a specific form, yet they function as life nonetheless.  They're not shapeshifters-each one has a form of their own, but as a species, you can't really say that.  Some look sort of like animals, some resemble other sapient races, some of them are like inanimate stuff with faces.  Some of them are really queer and you can't really pin them down as being anything in particular.  But they're all Nosgits.  Any male Nosgit can reproduce with any female Nosgit, even when that doesn't make sense.  Tables mating with Nauceans.  I have never been so disturbed in my life.

No, I've never seen it, and as far as I know, no non-Nosgit ever has.  They only do stuff like that when noone's watching.

The only thing all Nosgits share is their look.  They don't look... right.  Everything else looks like the sort of thing you'd take a photo of (no, I am NOT being politically correct, I refuse to stop using the word Photo just because a species is called that and using it as a word is discriminatory).  But they look like the sort of thing you'd draw.  They have thick outlines, and their movement is exaggerated.  They don't fit in with the scenery.

Well, they sure fix that, but in the opposite way of the way I would like.  When they inhabit an area too long, the area becomes like them.  The ground turns Nosgit, the plants turn Nosgit, the air turns Nosgit.  They've already done that to their first planet, and the areas around there.

And that's just one of their reality-warping abilities.  They seem to be able to do just about ANYTHING.  They can ignore the laws of physics if they like, they can change the way technology works if they like, they can do just about anything if they like.  Fortunately for us, they seem to only be able to do this "if it's funny"-and so they can't use these powers to just kill random people.  But the implications are frightening.

This is the scariest bit, and the bit I've been trying to work around my whole life.  You can NEVER kill a Nosgit.  Once they're there, they never go away.  That does about what you'd guess to their population.  I've looked into their biosystems and I have yet to be able to find any way around this.  Of course, looking into their biosystems is futile-they seem to be able to change their biosystems on the fly.

I'm writing this because everyone accepts the Nosgits.  But something is instinctually... wrong about them to me.  All the accepters think us few who don't like them are crackpots.  But we know they're not right.  We're not crazy... we're not crazy... we're not crazy...

Spore: Roleplaying and Story Games / Mongak Plague
« on: April 30, 2009, 07:31:15 pm »
The Mongak species went about their days, unknowing that they were about to be wiped out, or at least come close...
I'm not revealing the Mongak body appearance, anatomy, tech level etc to add to the challenge.

Your cell awakes in a red place.  It looks around and splits, and splits some more.
You make a map of the area from the cells reports.  You seem to be on the tip of a very large protuberant red thing, probably about a millimeter high..

Storytelling and Roleplaying / Clap If You Believe:A God Game
« on: April 21, 2009, 05:13:16 pm »
This is a metagame I'm trying out.  It's sort of like Black and White, but in the modern day.  Every turn is a day, and every turn you get one BP (Belief Point) for every person that believes in you.  You can create as many miracles as you like per turn, but you cannot get below zero BP.  Not because it kills you, but because you can't do it.

I'm going to help you out.  You're coming into a mind, a wonderful mind.

Welcome to Tommy Sellings.  He is an eight your old boy.  You came into being, power, real power, when you came into his dream.  Now you can use him to your ends...

Believers:1
BP:1
Miracles:
Change Color of Small Object (smaller than three inches)-1BP
Message (Give one sentence worth of information to one believer)-1BP
Research Miracles (Either discovers a new type of miracle, upgrades a current one, or cheapens a current one randomly)-1 BP
Do Nothing-0 BP

Spore: Roleplaying and Story Games / Quasit-Hairy Sneegle War
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:29:36 pm »
"We have determined that due to the completely incompatible ideals of the Quasits and us, the Quasit's elimination would be to our benefit, and the benefit of freedom and justice throughout the galaxy.  The Quasit's belief that they can own people trumples the individual.  In summation, we declare war."

Workers across planets had already started making deadly high-tech munitions.

Storytelling and Roleplaying / Pressure RP OOC
« on: February 01, 2009, 09:09:19 pm »
You are an employee at Belus Aries, an undersea laboratory partially submerged in an underwater mountain and partially exposed to the water for access and research purposes.  You don't know much about the people who own the lab- not even the Captain knows that much.  For now, you must undergo standard maintenence tasks.

I, however, am the character Events, sort of like a DM in D&D.  At certain intervals. a disaster, minor or major, will befall the lab.  You must fix it- and hopefully survive.  At the major disasters, often many people will be killed even when it first hits.  Thus, for the purposes of the RP, you should make a wide multitude of characters.  Some of them may be important, some may be personalitiless redshirts- but don't be surprised if one of the ones that ISN'T a redshirt is killed suddenly.  This is survival horror.

This is still in the planning stages, so discuss and make characters in here.

Note:Whatever may have been discussed in the RP Planning thread, I have firmly decided that this is NOT a comedy RP.
