Spore: General / Stealth changes in patch that made my day!
« on: September 19, 2008, 07:32:00 pm »
Some things I noticed while playing in space phase that wasn't in patch notes:

- Proton Missiles can hit fleeing spaceships as long as they make it to the target. Previously the missile would hit target and do 0 damage.
- Beaming terraforming/colouring tools from other races' planets no longer counts as 'stealing'

There were a few other pleasant changes I ran into but can't remember at this time. Anyone else noticed stealth changes that improved their gaming experience?

Spore: General / How to back up downloads?
« on: September 19, 2008, 08:03:13 am »
I've gone past the 6000 mark now with my downloads so was wondering how I would go about backing up all these creations? I would hate to have to rebuild my machine and download all these things again 1 at a time every second :O

Did a quick search on forums but didn't find any info on this so does anyone know where all my downloads are stored and if its possible to copy them for safe keeping?

I can't seem to figure this out. I have several monsters shared which the game shared automatically but I would like to remove some of these from the shared list as they're like same creature with just 1 extra part or whatever. Trying to tidy up my shared stuff so people don't get duplicate monsters. I can't 'unshare' stuff there's only delete and ban. How do I go about getting rid of these? Do I have to permanently delete them? I would still like to have them on my local machine to look back on evolution of my creature rather than it suddenly having all these new parts...

Second question if I see a creature that detracts from my gaming experience what is the best way to remove it from my game? It only has ban option but that says it will also be reported to maxis etc and even after I use ban creature it still shows up in my game. What's the deal? Anyone know how to remove creatures you don't like from your game?

Spore: General / How to fly across the oceans to another continent?
« on: September 13, 2008, 12:12:54 am »
I tried gyser jumping, I tried volcano jumping and still can't seem to get across oceans to another continent with highest level glide and jump. As soon as I hit the barrier my creature just swoops down from the height and gets eaten by the sea monster. I've seen videos of people flying between continents so how did they achieve this? Cheats, mods etc? I would really love to be able to migrate to another continent :(

Spore: General / Easy, Medium, Hard - What's the difference?
« on: September 12, 2008, 02:19:13 am »
Ok I've played a race in all three of these modes and the only thing I've noticed so far is the amount of health you get on your ship in space age is drastically reduced depending on the difficulty you're on (Unless the playstyle effects it too). Like with hard difficulty playing a peaceful herbivore race I only started with 300 health spaceship. Does anyone know what are the differences between the three game difficulty settings like if you generate less cash/spice, enemies more likely to declare war etc etc?

Spore: General / Game stopping bugs to watch out for...
« on: September 12, 2008, 02:09:42 am »
Well just lost an hour of work cause I accidentally shot a colony build thing at one of my fleet ships and it kept travelling for eternity. This is like the third time I had to alt-f4 out of the game cause of similar related bugs :( Just remember to ctrl-s regularly guys! Things to watch out for:

- If you're in the middle of terraforming wait till the ground has settled a bit before you launch any spice containers. I shot one and it went through the planet surface when the surface rose up from terraforming. Then it never deployed and unless the deployment animation stops you cannot do anything else or leave the planet.
- If you're targeting any colony or spice/uberturret/etc make sure your cursor isn't obstructed by your fleet ships or sometimes other things that can get in the view when you're zoomed in. Not sure why the game still lets you launch these in their direction eventhough they will never land anywhere to complete their deployment animation.

Hopefully something that is resolved in the next patch. About the only game stopping bug I've run into so far.

Spore: General / Shared galaxy between games right? A couple of questions...
« on: September 10, 2008, 11:54:40 pm »
- If I play 2 different save games that are close to each other on the galactic map, can I make contact with the race from my other save game and if I destroy the other race from my other save game will that save game get deleted also?

- If I go planet buster happy all around the universe, next time I start a new game and I'm near those systems I blew up with the planet buster, will those planets be uninhabitable? So eventually I could exhaust most of the stars in the galaxy? If this happens how do I 'reset' the galaxy to start fresh?

- Again if I'm playing 2 different save games close to each other but one is in space age and other is in tribal/civilization can I use a monolith to bring them up to the space age? In turn would this make my other save game automatically move onto the space age?

Does anyone know the answers to these questions? I read the Will Wright comment about how he enjoyed playing with multiple save games and contacting one another so it got me thinking...
