Spore: General / Computer problem may kill Spore!
« on: July 30, 2008, 10:55:42 am »
First of all this is not a 'what are spores specs' post.  I would appreciate some advice on a problem I have recently encountered with my computer.  I have, up until about a month ago, encountered practically no problems with my 2ish year old computer.  Specs:-

XP Pro SP3
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ [Overclocked from 2Ghz to 2.8Ghz]
DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert
2.00 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512 OC
SB X-Fi Xtreme Music

As I have said I have enjoyed good performance from my computer in games such as STALKER, Medieval II, The Witcher, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion etc...  I can usually use high detail settings in most games with respectable frame rates.  Stability has been second to none.  My case is very tidy and well ventilated with neither cpu nor gpu topping 60c max.  Drivers etc updated regularly and I defragment almost daily.  I hope that has covered the basics ;)

Three games I have recently purchased all have the same problem... they hang my system without fail in under 10 minutes of playing.  Assassins Creed, GRID & Alone in the Dark.  They all run perfectly up until they hang, which can be during game play or in the menus.  Screen freezes, stuttering sound, requires manual restart.

As you can imagine as Spore approaches I am becoming concerned it may happen with Spore, but as the creature creator works without issue should I relax?  You may realise from my concern that I am not in a position to buy new parts at the moment so this is freaking me out a bit.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Spore: General / Sporepedia improvements?
« on: July 08, 2008, 12:41:58 pm »
Not sure if this is just my imagination but the most popular creatures section of the sporepedia seems to be showing what would appear to be a logical list of 'all time popular' creatures rather than 'recent popular creatures'.  Not sure if I that made sense?  I do hope this is a sign of more improvements on the way for sporepedia.  If I recall they also added dates to comments which I am sure were not there from the start.
I am guessing as the load drops away on the servers they will phase in improvements to sporepedia, only a guess though.
