PC Games / Doctor Who game on SCUMM engine? (hypothetical)
« on: June 07, 2012, 01:38:37 pm »
So after the clumsy gameplay of the first "point and click" Doctor Who Adventure games, and the subsequent release of a minigame game and now an upcoming platformer (seriously? This is Doctor Who, not mario...), I'm still baffled as to why they haven't tried making a point and click adventure game using the SCUMM engine or something similar. A King's Quest or Monkey Island style point and click would suit the series perfectly, allowing for the player to find creative ways to get out of sticky situations by finding and combining/using elements in the environment, rather than just using timing to get past things (the cybermen "episode" was at least closer to this, but still sorely lacking in the ui department). Thoughts?

Console Games / There should be a Bounty Hunter Sequel...

I was watching clips from TFU II, and it got me thinking:

There has never been a game in which you play as Boba Fett. The closest there was was Bounty Hunter, which featured Jango. A sequel featuring Boba Fett would be amazing, yes? Especially if you could fly the Slave I?

Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures

I always said Runescape should have lightsabres...Didn't think SOE was listening.

It uses Free Realms, so expect mini games. Its free, but, in Runescape fashion, subscribers can unlock more content.

It releases this Fall.

Doctor Who: The Adventure Games

So far, it looks like they plan to make four "episodes" total. They could use a point and click interface instead of the lame "walk around in circles until the object you want glows" system it uses. The graphics are on par with the Wii, but the animations are a bit stiff. Not bad, over all.

There's a Wii game of some sort coming out later this year as well...

What the BBC really needs to do though is make a fully fledged single player RPG, Bioware style. Perhaps the equivalent of a season, where you play as a new companion.

Two really fun, free star wars games made by a fan.

To get the textures seen in the video, you have to download the graphics/sound upgrade by TMaster_Syrus. There's a link at the above website.

This was a short story I wrote in Sophomore year in high school. It's supposed to be like an old serial radio show (spiderman, etc.).

Enjoy!  8)

Console Games / New Star Wars game to be announced?
« on: November 28, 2009, 07:45:34 pm »

Seems like they're going for something new, (new, functioning flight sim would be nice)  rather than a sequel. But considering how vague the teaser is, its anyone's guess

These first two are some concepts I drew for a sci fi movie idea of mine. Thought it'd be a good idea to flesh out the ecosystem of one of the alien worlds involved to better establish the sentient species culture.

Shocker; is not star wars related.  :o

A four legged bird-like creature that fills a similar ecological niche as the common gray squirrel. It uses its large beak to crack nuts and seeds. Working name: Toby the squirrel bird. Not sure what to name his species yet.

Some aquatic animal concepts. The largest one is an orca sized (20-25 feet), penguin-like animal. It uses its feet to dig out nests to lay eggs in, and to assist in maneuvering while underwater. Its front limbs do most of the work when swimming, however. The small thing with the manatee tail is some type of aquatic sheep descendant, whose hooves have adapted to serve as fins, and has developed a paddle like tail.

Spore: General / Majorly Pissed off
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:52:08 pm »
I installed spore yesterday. When uninstalling trial editor, it asked me whether or not to keep the old files. I said "YES". The files I edited that day ended up under my creations. The ones I hadn't edited yet were under everything.

Today, the unedited creatures are GONE. When I drag/drop them from the 'pedia, it says in red, "this creation cannot be loaded".

Bottom line, I lost 8 creatures. Does the patch fix this issue?

Spore: General / civ. lifestyle paths ideas for additional one.

there's already religious, economic, and military. Any ideas for additional ones that could be added in expansions?

Spore: General / Religion's role in spore
« on: August 16, 2008, 02:13:17 am »

I laugh at the pettiness of this author.

More to the point, here's what i've noticed.

Based on video game demonstrations and text files, It would seem that the following is true about religion's role in spore:

1. Religious focused planets focus on "making their citizens happy" more than Economic or military.

2. It is impossible in spore to lack a religion without being corporate or military oppressors (iow, if you want a benevolent society, you're stuck with religion)

3. Religious planets use "miracles" to convert other planets.

And my reactions to each:

1. This is a simplistic game mechanic.

2. This is unusual for science fiction, seeing as how advanced atheistic societies are a common sci fi theme (Vulcans, anyone?).
Again, simplistic game mechanic, but a very limiting one.

3. Don't see what the issue is. Its no different than "Age of Mythology", where you could ask Zeus to summon a thunder bolt or Poseidon to summon an earthquake. This isn't neccessarily favoring religion, since the technique could easily be compared with other organizations that use religion as a tool of conquest, be it in sci fi (Stargate's Goa' uld and Ori) or in reality (the Inquisition and the Crusades).

My concern from a gamer's perspective isn't that they have religion in the game, or that they have "miracles" as conversion tools. My concern is that the game past tribal might be constricting if you only have such a small selection of lifestyles. This would be easily remedied by adding new species personality paths, such as diplomatic or logical. Since sci fi includes atheist motifs almost as often as it includes religious ones, it would seem incomplete not to include them.

PC Games / Custom Servers

My friend was telling me about these, they have some for WoW.

What other MMORPG Custom Servers are there? Are there any free custom servers for SW: Galaxies?

Looks cool, but a bit overpriced. I'll wait for it to show up on eBay in a few years at reduced price.
