Right, so I'm kind of interested in going back into this. Been looking through the threads and talking with some people.

You guys even remember that the last PCP ended up going to a DoW-like phase? We had a forum too: which I'll post when it won't mark this message as spam.

Totally forgot about all of this. But we have what appears to be the outline of a combination of these two games (Dawn of War and Planetary Construction Project) that seemed to work. We could start a new one at the PCP phase, or do a DoW game on an existing/classic map, or whatever else you can think of.

Any of you have an interest? Just looking for ideas at the moment.

Welcome to the Lesbian Pulp RP Out of Character and planning thread! This is the place to discuss our upcoming game. For the time being we're going to be hammering out some planning stuff and collecting players and characters. Before we get to the character sheets though, we should talk about the world and how the game will operate.

The world we'll be operating in is very similar to our own. Round, mostly water, filled with people and things; you know, the basics. It's Earth, but it isn't actually Earth. It's our setting and we'll be playing throughout this diverse world. But for the sake of a coherent story please be aware that we will have to be thoughtful about how we stay together and operate. As far as the style of play, we're thinking something along the lines of super science, but not too super duper. Think less of Superman and Batman and more of Indiana Jones and... other Harrison Ford characters.

This game will also feature the inclusion of a GM to be played by Krakow Sam. There will be no "villain-character" as in past games. Instead the GM will provide us with different events and whatnot. We hope this will allow for more interesting stories to crop up and generally a more organic feel to this RP.

Character sheets will be fairly standard. The usual will apply:

I think that's about it. Please ask questions! The more you ask, the more we can narrow down how the players want to play the game and that helps everyone out. Ask anything you want! Let us know what you think. Our goal is to take this basic outline and mash it together with the things you guys come up with in this topic. SO ASK QUESTIONS AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS! Tell us what you want to see! It'll all go into the blender.

We will be starting in a week or two, most likely. It depends on college finals and whatnot. Enjoy!!

You are in complete darkness. A howling of wind is distant and audible but the air in your immediate area is comfortable, if a bit stale. Up ahead you see a light.

How did you miss it before?

It shimmers and dances across the darkness, sending long arms into the void. The light is harsh and bright, however. Your eyes strain to take it all in and you have to turn away. A cough escapes your lungs and you shiver suddenly. The stale air, you realize, has begun to leave a sour taste in your mouth. You are feeling weaker. Maybe it's time to get a move on.

Either into the uncomfortably bright light, or into the darkness where the howling wind awaits?

Storytelling and Roleplaying / Liar's Mafia - Out of Character

Liar's Mafia
Cheat at your own peril.

Welcome to Liar's Mafia, where the number one rule is to cheat at your own peril. Yes, that's right! Cheating is not necessarily a bad thing in our game of Mafia; unless you're bad at it, that is. The standard rules of Mafia do apply in the sense that roles and powers will behave the same way they always have. In fact, just about everything will happen as it has in every other Mafia game we've played, but with that one exception. If you think you've got what it takes to game the system and manipulate your way to victory, we won't stop you!

With that said, we would like everyone to be aware that this game is still very much a proof-of-concept sort of project. Some aspects may work, some may not. We're going to find out the specifics as we play. So don't flip out if everything implodes around turn five. There is even a chance the game doesn't make it past the first phase. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Just remember to have fun and to keep an open mind. You will be cheated and swindled. It's part of the game.

Now then, early signups are open. We're looking for 19 people to fill out the ranks. All of the guidelines, roles, and other odds and ends will be posted on Monday or Tuesday (when I have off). So in the meantime, feel free to sign up and if you have any questions, please ask!

We were having a discussion in IRC about RPs and rules and all that jazz and then we just decided to throw all of our rules out the window and do a time travel RP. Why? Because shut up, that's why.

So right now Neo and I are trying to figure out how to make a time travel RP work without going cross-eyed. We are looking at a setup that has players act as anchors, independent from the flow of time. This means that if Sam changes the past, Brandon won't suddenly poof out of existence. Brandon's world would change around him but he would still be aware of that change, even if everyone around him is unaware. Additionally, you can't necessarily kill a character by changing the time they're in. Maybe you could nick or scratch them, but if Sam wants to kill Brandon he will have to do it in person. Maybe Sam changes the time period Brandon is in to give him the advantage, but a time shift won't be the cause of death for Brandon. Only Sam's dagger in Brandon's heart can do the deed.

We also figure that travel is limited to the point in time when the machine was made and forward. So no traveling back to fight Hitler and Mussolini atop a giant metal spider... or making another player's character never exist. Assume everyone's characters were born some time before the machine was made to prevent confusion.

So with that said, this is still somewhat complex and ideas are welcome! If you have an interest in this, let us know and throw any ideas you have into the ring.

We're looking into observational time travel. So let's say Jim and Robert are both standing in a field with a tree. Jim is in the year 2000 and Robert is in the year 1970. If Robert hides a gun in the tree back in 1970, the gun appear in the tree during Jim's time. That said, Jim may not necessarily know that a gun has just appeared in the tree he is next to. But for the sake of the game, it seems reasonable to assume that player-characters have a sixth sense of sorts that allows them to sense alterations in time that occur nearby. That way we don't have people trolling characters at random with time bombs and whatnot.

Greetings [TEAM NAME HERE]!! I hope you've had a pleasant trip on board the [SHIP NAME HERE]. We apologize for any inconvenience. While we take the utmost time in preparing ships for our teams, sometimes some things can fall through the cracks. Remember, as a member of the PanCeles Mercenary Corporation, it is your job to ensure the safety of our clients and their personnel. And that means having access to the best of the best. If you have any complaints, contact your coordinator at [TM CONTACT HERE].

Now then, with that out of the way let's get down to brass tacks and discuss the next mission.

Good luck out there team! Hopefully you understand what needs to be done.
Make us proud and come home safe!!

"Best of the best my ass!"

A rough and tumble looking man blinked a few times and turned away from an aging command console. He slowly peered around the room at the others who were on the bridge and rummaged around in his vest until he was able to produce a print out.

"Right... for the eyes of Captain Jim Stoddard only... blah blah blah... yeah okay. Right then. Okay guys, we're landing on the planet Kton-4. It's mostly covered in salty water. Says here it's like bath water and there's sun almost all year round. There are no less than six hundred resorts across its surface and several large urban centers. Yeah... hm... okay! We'll be heading into the Kton's largest city, Aquarius. Clever name... anyway, seems the local prison had a bit of a break and there's a bunch of hooligans holed up in a chemical research lab a few miles south. They're armed with homemade shivs and possibly non-lethal weapons taken from guards. Should be a simple operation. Sweep in, mop up the idiots, and then go relax on the beach and ride jet skis. Any questions?"

"Good!" Captain Jim answered before anyone else had the time, then turned around and looked back at his console. "Make sure everyone on board gets word. We'll be landing outside the chemical facility in a half hour. You're all pros, we don't need a hardcore brief on this. All you need to know is that we're going in hot, so be ready. Maps, prisoner bios, and other metrics are being sent to your PDAs... now."

The Softboiled SciFi RP - Out of Character

Hey guys and welcome to The Softboiled SciFi RP! We all know what's up here. This is our latest RP and it's got a good old-fashioned futuristic SciFi setting sort of like Mass Effect but let's not have any stupid crossovers. Your characters are all part of some sort of team thing (you guys can figure out what it is they do yourselves, I can't do everything) that is based on a planet that I will reveal to you in character. It's pretty straightforward. Just remember that this is a game so some concessions have to be made in the realism and logic departments. Try to keep things interesting, you can't off the big bad just because it's the "logical" thing to do... we have a plot to follow. :P

And don't focus too much on being THE GUY. Some of you will be the hero and some of you will not. Sorry. I can't do much about that, but if you're not the hero don't be mad. I'll make sure everyone gets their place in the sun. Did I just foreshadow? Nope.

Here's what I need from you guys...

I need a character sheet with the following:
Species: Don't be a jackass... keep it relatively simple. Think Star Trek species, not Spore.
Bio: Tell us as much or as little as you want, but try to give us something.

Other things I need from you guys before we begin. As a group, try to figure out what THE TEAM does. Also do we want to have magic/biotic/science powers? Let's figure all this stuff out.

Beyond that, get your characters in. I'll be playing the bad guy for now. We'll start the game as soon as enough people sign their cute asses up.

Simple premise of this RP. You're on a boat.

Create a character with the following information...

Short Bio:

We'll only need about four players and I will not be playing. Once we get enough people, the fun begins!

Everything Else / Let's Try to be Nicer!
« on: August 01, 2011, 11:15:54 am »
So lately, it seems as if people are much-more high-strung than normal, myself included. I think we need to take a step back, breathe, and try to be a bit nicer to one another.

That means giving people time to explain themselves before you call them dumb.
That means maybe some of us should not be calling people faggots all the time.
That means that if you see a repost, don't call a person on it or berate them. They only posted it because they wanted to make you smile, or at the very least not to make you mad.

The off-topicness is fine! There's nothing wrong with that. But let's try to keep things a bit lighter. There's a lot of mud slinging going on. Come on now, we're not the US Congress. We're better than that.

When in doubt, just remember this simple chart!

I should add, that if you're a habitual dumbass, you get no sympathy. You're probably looking for the abuse, anyway. The chart has been amended to reflect this.

Weird West

Howdy! And welcome to the Weird West RP. This RP will be one of the "everyone plays everyone", types of RPs. That means that every character, both hero and villain, will be played by everyone.
The players will be Krakow Sam, PatMan33, and Neoadept in that order. Beyond that, we know everything we need to know. Go team! Woo!

So yeah, Sam is up first, which means he gets to make the topic and all that shizzle. So do it, bro!

RP Topic

Welcome one and all to the Mystery RP! This is a new project for the RP section and a rebirth in the way we've done games in the past. It isn't original and has been done before, just not here. So what is the Mystery RP? I'll tell you! And rest assured, it's painfully simple. But you will need to be on the ball and a good writer. No idling out, you can be replaced very easily under this new system. The system that I will describe now.

For now the game has three players. We each roll a die to determine the order in which we post. From there, the first person begins the story. Then the second person posts. Then the third. And we return to the first person after that. Simple, right? Well here's the tricky part. We will all be playing every character. That means each one of us controls the protagonist, the antagonist, and everyone in between. No one person owns a single character and no one person has full control. We respond to whatever the person before us has written and continue their story. And that's it!

So, who's playing? Erops and Ovi have shown interest. And I'm definitely playing. I can accommodate a fourth person if you're really interested. And if people need to drop out, no big deal. With this system we're all easily replaceable! Ha ha ha!

Welcome to The Planetary Construction Project!
The Map - Team Forum
The Land Phase - The Nation Phase

Our Goal: To create a living breathing world from scratch using Earth's preexisting creatures with the eventual goal of hosting a series of activities within it's confines. Upon completion this world will be a fully realized system with flora and fauna, nations, governments, social ladders, economies, lore, and whatever else we want to add. But we'll get to that later.

How we'll do it: In order to make this new world we will each design our own sections and post them. They will be reviewed and suggestions will be made by the other members of the crew. Once a portion of the world has been completed it will be added to the map. The planet will not be complete until every section of the map is filled and the nations within are detailed.

Our map will be kept to scale with a very simple system. One pixel is one mile. We will be using a cylindrical representation of the world, laid flat the map will be a five thousand pixel by three thousand pixel rectangle. Members will request sections of the map in which they will draw their landforms on. You may select more than one section of the map if they'd like; however, you may not select two adjacent sections. As well, players are limited to one island square and they are first come, first serve.

Finally, I want to repeat that we are going to be playing this game over multiple phases. The first phase will be the LAND PHASE and during this phase we will ONLY be designing landmasses with whatever features you want. This phase should be fairly quick and then we will get to the NATION PHASE. This phase will see political lines drawn on our finished landforms. You may make a nation on the land you've designed, but players are encouraged to try to create nations on other landmasses, too. And remember, not everyone can make a Superpower. So be responsible!

And when it's finished: The completed planet will make for the perfect canvas in which to base Role Playing games, Meta-Games, Diplomacy-type games, and more! Really we are designing a place in which we can play games and have fun, and turning the design process into a game itself.

How do I join: If you'd like to help out just ask! It's really simple to join but be sure that you are able to satisfy the demands that this project presents.

The demands (Rules): There will be some rules and requirements in place to make sure things go smoothly and they will  be enforced.
  • Respect the other players and give them constructive criticisms.
  • Be reasonable with your creations, do not make anything that does not fit or throws off the balance of this world. It is meant to be a world that could really exist and a god-like race of humans that can kill with their minds would knock everything off kilter. This means that we must also consider things that may not be desirable. Every world has bad things, too. So will ours.
  • You must maintain a certain level of professionalism as well as provide the project with quality work. This is not some project that will be thrown together, it is meant to be done properly and with care.
  • The majority rules; if everyone else thinks your stuff stinks then they reserve the right to remove it. On that note, there is no one person in charge, we operate as a ruling body and made our decisions as a group.

With that out of the way, let the game begin...

The Land Phase

Welcome to the LAND PHASE! This part is really simple. Check the map and pick an allotment of land you'd like to use. Large squares are 500x500 and the smaller ones are 250x250. Remember, one pixel is one mile and you cannot select adjacent tiles. For the time being, start with one tile and try to spread out your selections because there's one important thing to remember... tiles that touch MUST contain land that also touches and there are no exceptions to this. Each color represents an entire continent.

So that means if you've selected tile G1, its borders must reconcile with those of G2, G4, and G9. Stay on your toes!

READ THIS: When you pick your tile all you have to do is go to Photoshop or whatever you're using (NO PAINT) and create a canvas of the corresponding size. Don't worry about the water for now, we want all land submissions drawn on a transparent canvas for easy transference. Save your 500x500 or 250x250 tile as a PNG image file and post it in this topic using imagur. This will preserve the transparency, retain the quality of your work, and imagur won't resize your file. From there, your file will simply be pasted onto the master map file and that's that. Very simple and very easy. But remember, you must save your image as a PNG.

And super last final thing. If you want a land tile assigned to you at random, I can do that. It's no problem at all. And that's all! GO!

Storytelling and Roleplaying / The God RP

The God RP

Welcome to a world of science and technology where a god from the machine isn't as far-fetched as it seems. From high atop their perch in the heavens, the gods rule Earth and everything on it. They fight, struggle, wheel, and deal in an effort to increase their divine power and minimize that of their rivals. Alliances are forged and feuds run red hot as the mortal realm is tugged at from all angles for every last bit of control. And trapped in the middle of it all is you, the mortal representative of an all-powerful god. Your job is to make sure things go well for a god on Earth and you may accomplish this by any means necessary. The gods depend on people like you to take care of the sticky day-to-day business and have no problem replacing you should things go awry. So don't mess up!

The God RP - OOC
The RP - Information Station

Welcome to The God RP! The RP in which you get to play as a... human servant to an all-powerful being! Yes, you've been lied to, sort of. This RP doesn't have you playing as a god, outright. Instead, you'll be playing as a god's representative on Earth. You act on your god's behalf and attempt to gain followers and power for your god, all while covertly sabotaging the efforts of other gods and their proxies. In exchange for this service, your god has given you a portion of their power which extends your life, your health, and your capabilities. But remember, you've only been sort of lied to!

In addition to play as your god's proxy, you also get to play the part of your god if you so desire. Now, your god's interactions are mostly-limited to the "association chamber", which is where all of the gods meet to discuss their dealings or accuse other gods of conflict. For the gods, it's all a grand game with power as the prize. And that means that somethings things can get contentious. Of course, the gods rarely fight each other one-on-one; that's what the proxies are for, after all!

This is the game I am hoping to start. The gods are playing the ultimate game of chess and their pawns are fighting for their lives. Our general time frame would be... the present. Modern times in an idealized world where events would probably happen in one giant city/suburbs/outskirts biome. The gods will be based on modern trends, beliefs, and popular culture. We can have villains if we'd like; however, I think because of the design, arc "villains" can really just be other proxies or gods that are trying to make a power-play on Earth. Since the gods are sort of in on the joke, consequences afterward would be minimal... though the proxies may hold a grudge.

Anyone that is interested in signing up, please post here. I'll have a character sheet and a list of potential gods up by tomorrow or Friday at the latest. Questions or comments? Please ask.
