Everything Else / Secret Message :P
« on: October 28, 2006, 07:03:48 pm »
I've got a secret :P
Below is a picture of my friends sim-kitty. I have hidden a secret message in the picture. It is specific text that you should be able to reproduce exactly. If you can find it, you can indicate it by answering the question "What did I ask?". What do you win... bragging rights :D

Disclaimer: This is for real... there really is a hidden message in the picture. If this picture doesn't appear, please tell me by posting here. Please delete the img tags when quoting this pic.

Everything Else / Gaming Steve black listed (warning: politics inside)
« on: September 18, 2006, 11:06:06 pm »
As some of you will know from earlier this year I have been able to access the Gaming Steve site from work.  I have used this site at work in my lessons to demonstrate some of the newest technologies in computer game programming (which I teach).  Some of the sites linked in this message board have been black listed forcing me to print them off (or burn them in the case of videos) at home for use in the classroom, but this has never been a problem for the discussions on this message boards... till today.  I got to work and was about to bring up another discussion about the difference between pollinated vs premade content and the site had been black listed by the government as being inappropriate for educational use.  Totally destroyed the lesson >:(  I have had to apply for this site to be white listed for tomorrows lesson so wish me luck everyone.  Lets just say I will be even more unimpressed (if thats possible) with the governments policies concerning this issue if it is still on the black list tomorrow.  Flames @ government

Spore: General / Feral introduced species
« on: June 30, 2006, 04:56:47 am »
Here's a thought.  Imagine you are at the UFO stage.  You had a planet with non-sentient forms of life on it.  If you were to take a pack of the same type of animal from your home planet to this planet and release them, how long would it take them to destroy the ecosystem?  I would define them as ferals and under normal circumstances, they would have no natrual predators and should thrive.

Thoughts... discussions... precognitions welcome.

Spore: General / Elbows and knees
« on: June 24, 2006, 01:20:37 am »
I have been thinking about this for a while.  One of the creatures I am thinking about making is...
3 legs attached to a body
3 feet on the end of each leg
3 hands on the knees of each leg
I know this would be possible by attaching a limb to the knee, making it short and attaching the hand on the end of it.... but wouldn't it be nice if we could attach hands and feet to limb joints.  Imagine a critter that walks/hops on its elbow(s) :D  You could get away with less limbs that way ;D

Forum Games / I am the Thread Killer >:)
« on: June 02, 2006, 06:17:22 pm »
Okay.  This game is quite simple.  You can post whatever you like (within forum rules).  The only real rule is that you have to be the last one to post on the thread when it dies and gets burried in the forum.

Of course I am always the thread killer because I'm always the one who posts last on any thread :P

P.S.... YAY!  My first post outside of the Spore forum :D

Spore: General / About the spine
« on: May 19, 2006, 11:44:22 am »
I don't know if this has been asked yet and I apologies if it has, but here we go...

I was watching one of the spore videos (again ::) ) and I got to thinking about making a creature who develops a number of legs (horizontally) first and gradually develops a torso (vertically) after that.  Since the head would develop before the torso, the most efficient way to develop such a creature would be to extend the spine from one of the centre spine pieces.  Now, from what I have seen and heard, currently you can only extend the spine from the ends (thus RW's creatures long nose).  I speculate this could be a potential negative for the game and a fix would result in more complexity.  Maybe someone who attended e3 could tell us more about this or others speculations are welcome.

Spore: General / Pollination curiosity
« on: March 25, 2006, 09:07:46 pm »
I am curious about the way the pollination system will work. I know there is limited information about it, but we can always speculate about it :P Knowing my luck, this has been discussed MANY times before LOL

On the Sims 2 exchange, they have featured content. This is content created by users that the Maxis team deems to be of the best quality. This content gets on the front page of the official Sims 2 web site and enjoy special filters on the search page. In reality, it seems that for an item to become featured, the creator needs to be popular with IMO better content not being featured. I really hope the same doesn't apply to Spores content and all users have equal chances of having their creations used. Anyone care to comment/speculate on this (even to give me a fishy stick ;D) and yes, I have featured content on Sims 2 :P

Spore: Creation Corner / One of my creatures... I am insane, I know
« on: February 22, 2006, 05:28:30 am »
I was watching an advert for the Simpson's and they showed a scene where Homer is looking into a mirror and he says something like "Hrouh... we should get married... imagine the kids"  It them zooms into his thoughts and you see 2 homers and a bunch of baby homers running around their feet.  That gave me an insane idea... how about a race consisting entirely of Homer Simpson's ;D  I was wondering what statistics to give them

Name:  Homer
Form:  Sapient
Appearance:  Like a poorly drawn cartoon of a man
Diet:  Carnivore with a need for doughnuts and beer (Ah ha... a doughnut creature ;D )

Anyone wanna add to this... feel free   8)

I got a few other insane ideas.  People who know me from Sims 2 will know how insane I am ;)  My silicon based lifeform idea is hilarious :P

Spore: General / An interesting Spore observation??
« on: February 21, 2006, 05:07:27 am »
Here is my understanding:

Will Wrights Spore will do for gaming what MIDI did for sounds, what metagraphics (vector graphics) did for images and what Flash did for animation.  The reason being is because MIDI files, metafiles and Flash animations all use simple structures and use procedures to reproduce the final output.  I believe Spore is using this same paradigm of using a simple structure and procedurally determine the way to output the structure.  Just an observation... discussion welcome 8)  *runs and hides from the masses who are throwing cantelopes at him*
