Old Man Goes to the Slammer

 ;D ;D ;D

I cannot tell you how happy I am to finally see this! Senator Ted Stevens, the 35-year Republican U.S. Senator from my state of Alaska, is having his home in north Anchorage raided and searched by the FBI and IRS as I write this.

Basically, all you need to now (and this isn't mentioned in the CNN article) is that the invoice for the remodeling of his home in Anchorage was being directed to VECO, a very wealthy oil company here in Alaska. Essentially, Senator (or at this point, former Senator) Stevens was selling his votes to VECO in return to get his home remodeled for free.

It's been widely known in Alaska that Stevens is an old corrupt bastard (to put it nicely) in his 35 years in the U.S. Senate, so this is a very welcoming thing.

Console Games / Microsoft: All Xbox 360's Ever Sold Are Flawed
« on: July 15, 2007, 10:20:32 pm »
It's old, but...

...but I didn't realize that Microsoft admitted that every single Xbox 360 is flawed (though maybe it shouldn't be all that surprising?)

And now we are getting news that retailers in Australia are having to send back all Xbox 360's in stock due to this design flaw, and the fact that Microsoft will lose $1.15 Billion or more on this deal.

Makes me glad I sold my 360 back for full price when I did!

I commend Microsoft for sucking it up and taking responsibility for this through the extended warrenty and by not kidding themselves, but the fact that all units sold are flawed like this seems insane. What's your take on this?

Everything Else / PC Won't Boot
« on: June 22, 2007, 01:07:14 am »
Mods: if this isn't the correct section, please move it. I'm in a bit of a panic!

I just installed some new Bluetooth software onto my main PC. After a simple restart to finish the installation, my PC won't boot to Windows.

When I turn my PC on, all sounds fine. I get the hewlett-packard logo, and I'm able to access the BIOS. However, after displaying the logo, my moniter goes black. Now, this normally happens on startup; my problem is I can't get past this black screen.

Everything worked fine before this restart. No viruses or problems.

Anyone have any suggestions? Help is MUCH appreciated! Thanks! :)

And the kick-ass Special Edition

I use a joystick+throttle combo almost identical to that depicted for my PC!

I would hope that I could use my PC USB joystick and not be required to buy this extremely pricy piece of equipment. Also, I payed about $50 for it. $50 joystick+$60 game equals $110, not $150. :-\

And supposedly it's a 360 exclusive, which is a shock, seeing as how the previous installments have gone exclusively to the PlayStation and PS2.

The game looks amazing, to say the least. Now I just need to see some of the in-cockpit views! ;D

Console Games / Madden 08

According to all the previews, EA really cleaned up and polished this year's game and added in all of the features that had been previously missing from the next-gen versions.

The Wii version also sounds very interesting. The new additions, minigames, and online multiplayer (supposedly without friend codes) all sound super-fun when matched in tandem with the new controls.

What are your impressions of the game? Which version will you be picking up?

We've all seen what a great job Nintendo is doing of capturing the casual/non-gaming market with the DS and Wii. However, the newfound success Nintendo has had with this new market has some worried that Nintendo may be slowly giving up on the hardcore gamer.

Nintendo is arguably doing a great job attracting the hardcore gamer to Wii this year with games such as Metroid Prime 3, Smash Bros. Brawl, Battalion Wars, Mario Galaxy, etc. But what about beyond that?

Do you think that Nintendo will slowly begin to cater less to the hardcore market as their success with the casual market increases?

Freaky!

I don't watch many horror movies, but this one I am compelled to see.

Definently something worth checking out.

Reggie

is

alone

Say it 'ain't so! Still *officially* classified in the rumor category, but like GameSpot said, we'll find out in due time.

What the hell is going on internally at Nintendo? They're making record profits, so why all of the sudden is Nintendo Power Magazine in jeapordy? Why are Nintendo execs jumping ship?

I recall reading an interview with George Harrison just a few days ago where he explained that he was looking forward to the nice weather in San Francisco.

This ultimately won't affect the quality of the games Nintendo produces, but I'll really miss George and Perrin if they leave. Perticularily George; Nintendo Press Conferences just won't be the same! :(

I'm holding out hope that the 90% of Nintendo's lost marketing workforce will be replaced with cybernetic Reggie clones.

Sequel to Bruce Almighty

Normally I'd say "yeah...I guess it looks good" but Steve Carell is in it, and that man is a genius.

Console Games / Manhunt 2
« on: May 29, 2007, 09:44:54 pm »
...Manhunt 2

Blood/gore and violence in videogames never turns me off or has any effect on me. It's just a videogame, right?

That is, until I laid eyes on Manhunt 2.

By far the most disturbing game I've ever seen or read about, Manhunt 2 is the first game I am actually afraid to buy/play. Sure, it's just a videogame, but the idea of me playing a videogame like this(and more specifically, acting out these actions with the Wii controller) makes me question what kind of person I really am.

Yet, as sick as this is, it almost compels me to go out and try the game. It's like that horror movie: you don't want to see it, but that disturbingness that turns you off makes it all the more appealing.

Rockstar: you guys are genius'.

Console Games / Sixaxis to Receive Rumble Treatment by November?
« on: May 24, 2007, 08:46:58 pm »
...as rumor has it.

..and will it use Immersion's "Next-Gen Vibration Technoloy"?

I sure hope this happens! Motion-sensing in the Sixaxis is great, but rumble is something I deeply miss; the controller really doesn't feel complete without it.

My concern is one raised in the article: will already existing PS3 games be able to update to support this new rumble? I was wondering myself that if rumble is coming later this year, maybe PS3 games currently under development are being developed with rumble in mind?

But will it include Immersion's new vibration tech? Game controllers today simply rumble; if Immersion's new dynamic rumble were to live up to its claims and be included in the already-motion sensing Sixaxis, we would be in for a very special treat indeed.
