Spore: General / Quick Question...

I am making character sheets for all my spore creatures... 4-view spec sheets... Side view, front view, rear view and a 4th view from an angle. Basically I want to line the front, side and back views up to scale with each other for these character sheets.

My simple question is... Is there ANY way to freeze the creatures in place to a static position? Everytime I snap a picture of the creature it has moved somewhat or changed its position and my shots don't line up precisely. I can often get close but I really want to be able to pause the creature and take different snapshots of it just standing there having the height and positions be exact to one another. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any hack to export the model into some 3d software?

Spore: General / My Cute and Creepy Stopped Working...

Can anyone else log into Spore and see if they can access their Cute & Creepy Creatures? I was in the middle of making a creature and stopped before the patch... a few days later I went to log back in and continue and all the C&C creatures in my list are all locked saying I dont have the expansion! Is anyone else experiencing this? I am trying to notify EA/Maxis... But it is next to impossible... I can even send them an email on the Spore site... Keeps giving me an error.

Any help would be appreciated!

Spore: General / Any way to turn off 'snap'...?

I am designing a creature right now and was compelled to switch over to here and ask this question... I am trying to place some ears at the top of my creatures head and just from the location of the ears and other parts being so close to the 'centerline' of the body I cannot precisely move the ears or rotate the other parts because they keep snapping into one piece... It seems to me the snap from symmetrical to one piece happens sooner than it should. It looks to me as if I have more space to do things... And it irritates me. Is there any way to turn this snap off?

Just curious...

Spore: General / What Determines an Early Creature?

I have been going back and creating simple versions of my creatures with the early/simple creature editor... I cannot test drive them so I save them, reopen them and test drive them in the creature creator. I then tweak/reposition them to make their walk and animations look better... Then I re-save them. Does resaving them in the normal creature editor cancel out their 'early creature' nature? I want them to appear early in the game for people. What determines 'what' an early creature is? Is it the complexity level? The parts? Everything being '1' in the part stats? Just curious. I do notice there is a height restriction in the early editor. Any help would be much appreciated.

Spore: Creation Corner / Creature Creation Challange...

Hey All,

   I took a few minutes and did a quick sketch of a creature out of thin air. I figure I myself would create a creature from it in Spore, challenge anyone else to do the same and then see what we all (if anyone is interested in doing it) independently come up with.

   Basically create a creature based off the sketch below. The species is the Hognoggler. When saving your creation name it as a subspecies of the Hognoggler (i.e. Forest Hognoggler, Spotted Hognoggler, Giant Hognoggler, etc...).

   Be as creative as you possibly can and add as many flourishes as you deem appropriate while maintaining the base integrity of the original sketch/species. As long original feel of the creature is maintained they should all end up looking related. I intentionally kept the sketch loose and not too detailed as to leave more to people's imaginations.

   If anyone is interested it may be quite fun. I will make mine but wait a few days before posting it.

Found some old sketches in the closet from a few years ago... Wondered if I could make them in Spore... So I tried! Here is what I came up with. Just thought I would share... If anyone wants to take a stab at the sketches I drew and try to recreate them it might be kind of fun and compare the results! Voltor was the hardest for me.

Spore: General / My Spore Stopped Working...

Last night I was playing and I went into the star system by my homeworld... Well upon entering the system the sun overtook the whole screen and the game froze... But the menus still worked... So I exited to the main menu and restarted the game... I entered the same system and the same thing happened... Well, it was late so I exited the game and went to bed... Tonight I went to play the game and I cannot get the game to start at all. I double click on it and it comes up with the black screen for 2 seconds then back to the desktop like normal then locks up... No splash screen nothing (not even a tab at the bottom bar of windows). I then have to hit the windows key and only then does a spore tab come up at the bottom... I am using vista and when I wave the cursor over the tab it shows a completely pink screen. When I goto the task manager it shows spore is running (it does not say Not Responding)... I am at a loss... Any suggestions? Has anyone encountered this?

PC Games / Galactic Civilizations 3?

I know it's a wacky theory (and would probably never happen)... But how do you think a Galactic Civilization 3 would work with Spore technology? I mean the core game would have to be designed from scratch but the pollination/procedural technology seems to me to be a PERFECT fit for the GalCiv 'franchise'. I heard that other companies are looking into using the Maxis technology for their own uses... This combo seems a no brainer to me as you would be able to design your own races, ships (much easier than the current GalCiv2 ship designer), buildings and even wonders. Of course it would have to be tweaked and customized to Stardock's needs. Imagine if you could use the spore tech now with the current GalCiv2... SIGH I can only dream...

Spore: General / Multiple Mouths on Space Races...

Has anyone noticed alien races with multiple mouths in the space game have extra mouths that do not all animate when 'speaking'... Has anyone else encountered this...?

I met a player race of intelligent pelican-like creatures one with a mouth super-imposed over another to give it a more 'full' look. The mouth placed on the inside was animating the speech but the mouth on the outside remained closed. When speaking, the inner mouth proceeded to clip through the fixed closed mouth. On top of it, it had wings that clipped into the body significantly... This all drove me quite mad. So before banning (which I hate to do - I wish I could just 'replace'), I investigated the creature and it was actually pretty cool in concept -  so I said let me take this into the CC and adjust it for my own private use so it will not clip...

Well while in the CC these two mouths opened and closed as one. Obviously the creator spent time aligning them together with the intended effect of it being one mouth. But for some reason the 'space race portrait animation' did (or does) not animate multiple mouths.

I just encountered another race with 3 mouths and none of them are moving when it is talking (making me believe a 4th mouth is buried under something).

Has anyone else encountered this?

Spore: General / Switching out content?

I am playing my game (and loving it) and I just allied with a new race who gave me a starship... The only problem is they gave me MY starship... Like the same starship as the race I am playing in this current 'campaign'. Obviously the game just picked a ship out of the my creations folder and randomly picked my ship by coincidence...

Is there a way to switch out the content? Like for me to replace this ship with another ship in my library so I can just 'assign' another ship to the race so it will not be mine?

This being said is it possible to do this with anything in the game? Say for instance you get a crappy race pollinated into your game and it just irritates you to no end. In the same context is there a way to replace the 'graphic' of a race with a new one from your library (of course keeping all the same mechanics/stats already in play in the game).

Any help or comments will be much appreciated! :)

Spore: General / Absolute, Total & Utter Satisfaction!

I... Like most was being relentlessly plummeted by 2 races in my space stage (at normal setting)... Over and over they would attack... The first race was the Zanurily... They were relentless... Attacking and attacking... Then when I allied with the Zeebus I defended them against the Marton... Well that caused mass war with the Martons... It was so bad I did not think I would ever defeat them (seriously)... But I picked away one system at a time, while the two species kept attacking me over and over. But I held out... I took someone's advice on here and took the fight to them... First I defeated the Zanurily... Then FINALLY I defeated the tougher Marton. I was elated... I spent all night doing it, not giving up... Now the region is all green and at peace. I finally have some breathing room to do some stuff.

Moral of the story just stick to your guns... It will get better!

Here is a cast of characters thus far in my Spore Saga (there are other races I am dealing with but they have just been met and I will see what comes of then). But these are the races of the 'First Wars':

I am having trouble uploading tribe creatures... I have made two now and for some reason they will not upload... Anyone else having this problem and/or know how to fix it?

Scenerio...

I got up early, traveled to the store eagerly bought my purchase of spore then went to work for four hours...

Everyone (everywhere) seemed to confirm 3 installs per computer. My partner of 8 years (who is 'kinda' into Spore and has 8 creatures) installed it on his computer when I was at work... No problem right? Then I get home install it and I (who has 84 creatures and is VERY into spore) can not use the game in connection with my account. I am so mad at this crap I can't even put it into words. 3 installs with Mass Effect, 3 installs with the creature creator... but not this? He doesn't even care if he has an active account of his own or not. Am I able to transfer the account from his (Xporer) to mine (CreatureCreator)? Or am I screwed? He says EA is jerky when it comes to this and isn't going to do anything. I have waited patiently 3 months and created alot of creatures and want to play under my account! We don't care about two accounts thought it would be nice I just want my account first and foremost. Any suggestions that do not include me 40 emails to EA with no responses?

Spore: General / Sporepedia shadows...

Just a few comments questions,

Does anyone else hate these 'new' shadows in the sporepedia as much as I do? They detract from the creature substantially in my opinion... Do you think it will matter when the game comes out? If I assume correctly, the sporepedia will mostly be handled in game and not the website (in terms of browsing, rating, etc)... Is that correct? Will the website version of the sporepedia become more of a secondary thing?

Spore: General / "<Creature>" was not successfully shared.

I am having difficulties uploading the creature below... I have recently been getting the "'<Creature>' was not successfully shared." message ALOT when completing creatures... Normally I find if I exit the program and re-enter I can upload them just fine. This one creature is different though. It seems no matter what I do I cannot get it to upload. I have taken pieces off of it to test it to see if it will go up and nothing seems to work. On top of all that - even though it displays the 'not successful' message it does in fact upload a blank entry into the sporepedia with the creatures name and profile intact (just no creature). I have come to the conclusion it is my computer/installation... Maybe someone else can upload it... Can someone try uploading this for me then I can try grabbing it off the Sporepedia and then see if I can reupload it? It worked for me once before with another creature and I used my roomate account... But alas he is not around and wont be for some time... Thanks in advance! :)
