PC Games / Loom 2 fan project in the works
« on: December 16, 2006, 08:15:11 pm »
Hey y'all,

I know that a lot of you are big fans of classic games so when I stumbled upon this site I knew that at least a few of you would want to hear about it.

http://www.apeirongames.de.vu/

*Spoiler alert for original LOOM and unmade sequels*

Apparently they've been give the original writer's blessings. It's completely non-legal obviously, as the game's rights belong to Lucas Arts not the writer, but it is interesting to hear what his plans had been for the game and why the sequels where never made. According to a letter posted on the site's message board, The writer had planed two sequels. The first was to be about Nailbender, the boy who Bobbin inadvertently gets killed and then resurrects. The Second sequel was aparently going to star a member of the Shepherd's guild and end with some climactic battle involving Bobbin, Naibender and the shepherd. Too bad they were never made. Apparently the only reason they weren't was because the writer simply didn't feel like making another Loom and nobody at Lucas Arts felt like doing them either.

*End spoilers*

In any case. The people behind this fan made sequel have decided to throw all that out the window and set their game 500 years after the events of Loom. And yes, the game will star Bobbin. Here's to hoping the the games development doesn't hit any more speed bump!

Oh, and I almost forgot. They seem to be looking for anyone with skills related to game making who would be interested in helping them finish the game.

Forum Games / The Dare Game!
« on: November 11, 2006, 10:33:54 pm »
Okay. The point of this game is to dare the next poster to do something.

It has to be something that can be provable give the restraints of the forums and the internet, be in good taste and fall within the rules of our host's forum.

You shouldn't post unless you think you meet the criteria set buy the previous poster, and once you have you should then offer a dare of your own.

NEW RULE

If a dare isn't meet within 24 hours of its original posting, another poster may make a new challenge.

The next poster after that may meet either of the two unmet Dares. Once either of the two dares is met the game will proceed as normal and the unmet Dare will be forgotten (though it may be posted again).

Simple enough right!? Well lets get to then!

First Dare:

I'll make this an easy one. I dare the next poster to post a picture of a Purple Dog!

Well, there you have it. Many of our worst fears have just been confirmed. Gamestop/EB has taken their bundling stategy to new levels by more than doubling the price of a Wii with their bundle. And to add insult to injury, you can only get the Twilight Princes from them if you buy one of their bundles. I know who I'm not getting my Wii or games from.  ::)

What do y'all think?

Forum Games / Best Darn Alphabet Game Ever!
« on: October 16, 2006, 06:38:08 pm »
Okay, I got this idea from "Who's Line is it Anyway" so this hardly original. Like in most alphabet games you post one word at a time starting with the next letter after the previous post. Our goal this time, however, is to tell one long story. Feel free to place punctuation after your word if you like to spice things up!

Ex. Apples
     Brake
     Craniums!

Starting word: Astounded

PC Games / CD Key Rant
« on: October 11, 2006, 01:41:34 pm »
That's it! Who ever thought up the idea of CD Keys needs to die a slow and painful death, as does the first guy who said "that sounds like a good idea." In fact, while I'm casting dispersions upon people I think I'll also add the guy at THQ who decided that it would be a good idea to save a few cents by not including jewel cases with their Winter Assault games to the list. Because of him, I now have a perfectly good CD (Or should I now say drink coaster) in a paper sleeve with a CD Key on a completely separate, and missing, piece of paper (which isn't in the manual, which I also still have).

Okay, ranting done. Care to join in?

Everything Else / Weird things you've said
« on: October 05, 2006, 08:14:43 pm »
I was just sitting here a few minutes ago when I found myself compelled to blurt out "I can see myself in my mouse!" with all the glee of a five year old who just found a penny. What brought this over excitement on you ask? A silvery reflective button on the back side of my new mouse. After a moment I realize how absurd my comment must have sounded to anyone walking past my open door, which has caused me to wonder. What sort of bazaar things have you all found yourself saying recently?

PC Games / Paraworld; the next sleeper RTS?
« on: August 21, 2006, 02:03:29 pm »
I just stumbled across this RTS while I was on Gamespot. I had never even heard of it until yesterday when I downloaded the demo, but its already due out at the end of next month. Its supposed to be set in this parallel dimension where every mannor of prehistoric beast and dinosaur coexist with mankind. It sounds kinda hokey at first but the gameplay and production value are actually really good. From what I've played of the demo so far the two playable races seemed fairly diverse. This may just be the next sleeper hit in the world of PC gaming.

PC Games / Opinions on Direct2drive
« on: August 19, 2006, 09:33:47 pm »
Howdy!
Lately I've been getting rather fed up with the sorry PC game selection at the stores in my area, and I was impressed with my experience with Steam, so I've been looking into getting most of my games on-line. So far the only on-line download store I've found is Direct2drive, but before I decide to jump in feet first I was wanting to get your guy's/gal's opinions on the site. Anything you might have to say would be appreciated, but here's a few questions off the top of my head.
How reliable are they? Can you easily re-install a game if it gets corrupted and/or you've had to delete it?
I've heard that patches and updates have to come through their site first. Is this easy to do, and how long have does it usually take for them to make them available?
How long does it usually take for new game to come available?
Also, if there are any similar sights you might suggest feel free?

Thanks for putting up with me and my windy questions! :P

P.S. sorry if this has been discussed before but I didn't see anything relevent when I did a search.

PC Games / New Dell Commercial
« on: August 08, 2006, 11:18:52 am »
Dell must be loosing it a little more every day, or at least their PR team is. In the latest Dell commercial a guy is give a ride through a fantastical Dell factory where he gets to pick all manner of colorful objects and people to go into his new PC. One of the first things he picks is a giant purple monkey. What this monkey is supposed to represent is beyond me as most of the other things he picks clearly represent things like music and education, but it should likely sound fairly familiar to most of you. (Hint: he ain't your Buddy)
Makes you wander what Dell was thinking.
