NWN 2 has some major game-killing bugs at the moment. I'd avoid it until they release another couple of patches. Cutscenes often fail to fire, as do other triggered events. The game is horribly unoptimized in both hard-drive space and graphics requirements, and crashes often. Ontop of this, the tech support provided has been poor thusfar.

Other life forms on Kalmatrus


A land dwelling arachnid with a thick exoskeleton. Crunids are generally the size of a desktop computer. Crunids have the standard eight legs in addition to two large claws on arms connected near their mandibles. These were the primary enemy of the reptiles of Kalmatrus before flight.


The undisputed masters of the sky before the coming of the fire lizards. Rogubna are basically huge dragonflies (Creature stage they are eagle sized, early-Civilization stage they are Buick sized.) The major differences are a split tail and massive scythe like appendages towards the front.


The first domesticated animal to be used as a food source on Kalmatrus. While Condranids may be the most advanced reptiles on Kalmatrus, this does not mean that there are not other reptiles. These Gila monster like creatures are herbivorous and lacking sorely in intelligence.


The closest things to songbirds you’ll find on Kalmatrus. Housecat sized pterodactyl like creatures that make the beautiful music in the morning of various screeches, clicks, and whistles.

I may make models for the other two eventually. At the moment however I lack the proper motivation.

Been a while since I updated these guys. I still don't have the condranid texture done as doing it without seams is a major pain.

Condranid Tribal stage:
As condranids developed more and more advanced brains, they came up with better and better hunting methods which allowed them to spend more time not in search of food. In this leisure time some condranids took to making various and assundary trinkets and baubles out of fallen prey.

One practice that emerged almost universally was the creation of a headdress for the pack leader. This usually was only done for pack leaders that had undisputed control over his or her pack, and all but solidified that control until death of that pack leader. As such, powerful condranids were easily recognized by their head gear.

Art progressed through use of plant-based inks and crushed remains of fallen insects. Territory was often marked by an artistic depiction of the pack leader’s headdress. Other paintings often showed epic battles between large packs of condranids and some of the most vicious insects on the planet.

Through the beginnings of craftsmanship, one particularly industrious pack leader decided to switch from the standard nomadic dwellings that condranids had constructed for themselves for so long, and establish a permanent settlement where some of the first specialization was developed.  Gone were the days where the entire pack would go out for a hunt and then spend any small amount of leisure time they had on social or artistic endeavors. Now, some members of the pack would go out and hunt, with any excess put into stockpile, whilst other members of the pack worked on construction of tools and even domestication of plants and animals to a small extent.

This initial settlement grew rapidly as more and more condranids became attracted to this way of life. Eventually, the initial settlement site became too populated and more settlements were formed downstream.

Shouldn't be a problem to replicate a computational model of a planet in 100 years. The Universe maybe, depending on the level of complexity supported.

You don't have to use eyes, although I'm not sure why eyes would be considered cheating. You could just as easily use some things that are used in submarine warfare that are there to deal with active and passive countermeasures. Or you could come up with something entirely off the wall and different yet still works. It's up to whoever takes the next step.

Longer filters with a basic nervous system attachment allowed the creature to feel subtle shifts in the water. This allowed it to move out of the way when a large filter feeder swam by.

Delimma: The creature's prey have begun to develop detachable body parts that distract our creature, resulting in much smaller meals.

At such low levels of operation, the creatures of spore won't be alive any more than the HIV virus is alive. Besides, for the sake of our economies I don't think questions like that are going to trully be considered until an AI passes the Turing test. The funny thing is, that even at that time, people may consider those computer programs to be nothing but algorithims (which they are), because the trends show once something has been acomplished in AI it loses all its magic and becomes commonplace.

The universe wouldn't have to be a game to be run on a computer, any less than a program crunching the fifty-millionth digit of Pi is a game. What's interesting is that as our society goes further and further towards automation of low level tasks, what is work and what is play will become hard to distinguish. Eventually, the only form of "work" available will be the creation of new knowledge, and "the creation of new knowledge" is such a wide term to encompass many things. If you sit and try to come up with new music on a saxaphone 'till you make jazz, that's new knowledge; if you come up with more and more creative forms of dancing until you've got break dancing, that's new knowledge. So in essence, this could all be a game, and still be used to learn something new.

Read The Singularity Is Near by Ray Kurzweil, I'll be using alot of what he presents in this, although I don't have the book next to me at the moment so expect some innacuracies.

By 2040 you'll be able to purchase for 1000 of today's US dollars enough computing power to run a human level consciousness, and the software will be at the level neseccary to run it. The reason this capabillity will reach us so soon is that human technological growth is exponential, not linear. If you look merely at the trends from mechanical ciomputing to relays to vacuum tubes to transistors you'll see how exponential our growth really is.

To run the entire universe on an atom by atom level in a computer simulation is unreasonable. For instance, all the quantum changes that take place in a 1kg rock would require something like 10^29 MIPS. This is riddiculous when it would suffice to simply say igneous rock 1 kg in wheight, and give a discription of its shape. This is what's known as complexity. While it could take 10^29 MIPS to simulate a rock at the quantum level, the level of discription that is needed is much less. The computational power of that rock is not 10^29 MIPS, because all of those calculations are essentially random. About the most calculation you can get out of a rock is droping it off a cliff, which does provide some useful computation, but not much.

So, if a universal simulation were run it would most likely be run in as compressed a format as possible. Taking this into account it is likely that the universe could be run on a supercomputer of the 2060s or so. Now, does any of this matter? Not really, when there's nothing you can do about a situation that you don't even know exists, there's not much you can do; so in the infamous words of Douglas Adams "Don't Panic."

OMG, a fellow Space Quest fan!

Truth be told, there's some cool ships in the SQ series that would make good Spore UFO's; would love to try and recreate the Aluminium Mallard as well :D

You could always recreate Wilco's battleship from "Spinal Frontier" which I can't seem to remember the name of :)
