Nice, I voted technology because I wonder what kind of things creatures with physique like this would devise (remember that all technology is mostly designed keeping its user in mind, in limitations and abilities, etc)

Transportation would be nice.

Working on a better visualization right now.

Gec, why did you put him on the green list?  Now he won't do anything...

You know the more you talk about something as if it is truth, the more likely it will be actual truth.

Hey, this is new.

Does anyone remember me?

Anyhow, this sounds like fun, although I have no idea what you are all voting about (in relation to the topic).

I'd like to sign myself up as an artist willing to draw stuff.

Name: Mad Giraffe
Style: 'Realistic' (biologically correct beings), horror (fleshy abominations), abstract, original, cartoon, 3d(slow process though, still learning), crude animation.
Tools: Good ol' pen and pencils, Photoshop (my specialty), 3ds Max, ZBrush 2, Flash, Photography (did anyone say cut and paste collage creatures?)
Fee: A good original idea to get me going, the more it intrigues me the more motivated I am, so get those creative juices flowing! Challenge me! The crazier the better!
(most recent, not necessarily best)Example:

(I recommend to just check my galleries, #2 for newest stuff)

I got it and like it, too bad it only gets 65 though, I was fully fed when I found that out, well at least I could there try out a few things on finding out how it worked. I figured out the z and the c, only don't completely get the x, I'm guessing something like one shape having points on both sides adding to that, but when I tried that, it didn't work...

Too bad there is no replay value to this, because getting to 65 takes a whole lot of time, you can't save and at the level you can remake you creature anyway in everything you want so you'll have seen everything. Needs music too.

Maybe something like this:
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/dkccoral.mid (I've got a better version myself, but I couldn't find that one)

No don't think that is the game model, because if you compare it to the vid one you'll notice some slight differences. And this one got too many polys. On the other hand, I think that pic with all those different textures for the creatures shows best what detail they are ging to get, quite close to this really.

Cool, you notice he presses the "baby" button? I supposde that means we have children.
Yeah, I just noticed that, I remember seeing children in the old GDC video, when he was checking out the city. But it's nice that we'll be able to alter what they look like, maybe a larval stage or something like that. And no offense to the designer, but that's one ugly creature, and I don't think I'd want it running around my game world with all my cool stuff.
Well, I doubt you can actually design the babys. That button was probably just for showing how they would look.

What is the use of having that option in the editor when you could not edit that? YOu probably couldn't in that version, but I'm certain that there once will be one that can.

You say that the placement and and type of form that is used defines the qualities of a creature...but how? I haven't quite figured out yet how it works, fun game though.

Is that actually confirmed as a baby button? Because I thought he only zoomed out on the creature, I didn't see any real change in the shape of it.
In the image of the Powerpoint there was a Baby Button...

Ok. I did not know that.

Where can you get that?

Spore: General / Re: Inspiration of the sentient plant

Ok so no 'sentient plants' really, but I was wondering how far you could go in making them look like plants, y'know, like camouflage. So that you'd have a tree-like or bush-like creature, like a Deku(Zelda games) for example. They are creatures but have distinct feutures uncommon to other creatures, like leaves, bark like skin, etc.
But seeing as from what we know of the editor right now, I don't know if it is possible or not.

My first ever made topic, not going to happen much, as how I detest making new topics.

But I had to show this:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1536204031014710941

And let's make this into a discussion on the implementation, possibilities of sentient plants. Because I think 'sticking leaves onto the damn thing' isn't going to cut it, especially not of you saw this beautiful video.

If YOU have it and have played it, please take a moment to tell us what you think

That formulation scares me, who is 'us'? *shifty eyes*

Forum Games / Re: Longest word .. EVER!! (game)
« on: March 20, 2006, 09:58:45 am »
then i win! :D

Well, no. Read this:

"Official" longest word

The Guinness Book of Records, in its 1992 and subsequent editions, declared the "longest real word" in the English language to be floccinaucinihilipilification at 29 letters. Defined as the act of estimating (something) as worthless, its usage has been recorded as far back as 1741. In recent times its usage has been recorded in the proceedings of the United States Senate by Senator Jesse Helms, and at the White House by Bill Clinton's press secretary Mike McCurry, albeit sarcastically. It is the longest non-technical word in the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. The acceptability of the 33-letter adverbial form floccinaucinihilipilificastically is subject to controversy. The longest technical word in the Oxford English Dictionary is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, a lung disease.
