Spore: General / Re: Is Spore Dead?
« on: August 30, 2010, 03:12:31 pm »
this is so incredibly weird. It must have been 2 years (give or take a month) ago that I played it. I remember this time of years 2008 I couldn't almost sleep the last few nights till it came out. Played hundreds of hours in the creature editor during summer holoday and I didn't anticipate a game this much since the first star fox.

I was enthousiastic , hell I even interviewed one of the developers as a complete nobody. Spore made a game journalist ad interim (very briefly) of me. Then when I played it a month.. bang, there was a fatigueness I can't describe. I kept on saying to my friends, the editor is cool, I even liked the civilisation stage (more than the space stage really) , because it could get intense... But once my creature was near the center I just thought I evolved 'enough" :P Tried to do some other creatures , evolved them to tribe and stuff like that, created some ships and messed around. But beyond the creating process I just didn't do anything with it anymore.

it all looked very pleasing and the creation of things was fun, but the gameplay especially when you did the space age long wasn't really immersive anymore.

That fansite is so "pre spore anticipation era". When I think about it, I'm kind of finding it weird that I never play the game anymore and I remember looking forward to it alot.

Kinda weird that a responsibility given to a person can turn out that way.

Cosmic, how did you get those sounds? I've been trying to play them for some time now and have never got them to work. How do you do it?

the files are located in your steam folder, on my vista installation it's:

D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\sound\player\

if you've got xp and you have steam on the C drive, I guess it's:

C\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\sound\player\

Look in the survivors/voice map for the texts.

lol, i watched that at 6am this morning, and i laughed.. i was tired. Laughed quite a bit =P

This track is indeed most effective when you have a specific kind of humor like me, or else it helps to be drunk or very tired.

I've got this game since release (actually also played the demo) and it's the funniest online game I ever played and I'm still playing it frequently more than a month after launch. (never happened this way with online gamingf). Although the environments are always the same, the action is different and unexpected each time. It's kinda like wandering trough your on street and always seeing different things:P

The zombies are relatively easy to kill but it becomes harder when the horde swarms around you and you better get help from someone, especially in the harder difficulty settings.

Anyway, I've created a little 'rap' from all the survivors' voices :) Just because they're comical on their own: and the absurd story is so lame that it actually goes nowhere fast :)

Spore: General / Re: Spore, Wired's 1# Most Disappointing Game Of The Year.
« on: December 20, 2008, 09:44:13 am »
Good god, Im pissed with this.
I mean seriously, what in the hell is Dead Space doing on that list. Seriously, what?! Spore I can 100% understand, but this is just utterly awful.

3 things: i agree , i've got the same feeling. Dead space shouldn't even be on that list. And spore well, I still like the game but to name it the nr1 dissapointing game is some kind of a stretch to me, seems more like 'tantrumage".

That writer only seems to like game if it involves the word 'indie': ) Which gives me the same nagging feeling as people who only think grunge is good. (or complicated classical jazz). Ugh, NEXT!

I actually didn't know you could already make a map for left 4 dead. there's no SDK yet ?

Spore: General / Re: Who here is still playing?

I'm playing alot of left 4 dead lately. And spore, I created a creature or 2 using the cute & creepy pack but I must say my ingame experience is like: almost 2 months ago :P .

I don't even find it boring gameplay or anything, it just seems like when you did it a few times it's just not that addictive to just try more ways.

I remember so well that I participated in a Q&A with lucy bradshaw where I said this is gonna keep me busy for months to come. It's actually been 2 months that I intensely played this. But for now when i start it , The only thing i really do is creating a creature or watch if there's a comment on my creatures :)

Spore: General / Re: Maxis reacts on "science vs. cute" debate

It's highly uncalled for too: especially by those ho called for resignment or other extreme measures. For ww , cute doesn't equal to unadult or childish. It's kinda hard to get that out of some people. They remain stuck into a sort of post puberty schtick where sweet-ish accents are for children and signs of violence and 'long threaded gameplay' got to be the adult thing.

You'd wonder which despicable crime is being commited by 'cute" if you see all the reactions about this subject.

I've almost never seen a worse "i say tomatos you say tomados" issue in recent gaming history :P Maybe except for the 'mario is (not) for kids' debate.

Wow! Around half of the people that voted are disappointed.  :o

and wow, about 2% about the people didn't wait for spore and liked it. I think this is somehow related, i'd like to have seen a situation where NO ONE who was waiting for spore took that poll: it would be less in the dissapointment category i think.

well it says on the banner it's a temporary promotion: not worth the fuzz imo. It would be kinda weird if this was a permanent deal. Then I could understand that it would seem as if people who are fan and have spore from day one (like me), were discriminated against new users. Now: it's only against a select amount of users which isn't even determined yet but that deal isn't gonna last everlasting. It's just a way to get new players extra interested in spore.

Spore: General / Re: First REAL expansion: Space expansion

it's as hiki says, He found it on the german spore site. And it clearly is different from the 'more than 100 parts" in the mail. It's both coming from EA though. DUnno what's going on either. I get these mails from the dutch comunity owner as well.

Why did we get this info first ? Well blame us being in an later time zone than USA. And i've noticed several times that this info is localized for local brands of EA.
