Console Games / Re: Wi-Fi for PS3 20 gig

The PS3 has a few USB ports on the front so I'm assuming maybe a USB WiFi adapter could do the work.

Blame Square, if I remember correctly they were the first ones to start doing that with their Final Fantasy games. Then all the other developers started following suit by releasing their mostly just pre-rendered screens and trailers all the time.

But going back to what some people were saying before though... I don't think graphics should be your primary concern when buying a console. Isn't it always about who has the better games, and not the better graphics?

Damn man, you scared me... I though you were talking about Heroes the TV show getting canceled or something... Phew!

And is really that much easier to plug in a cord rather than pressing two buttons?  I suppose the main difference in MY eyes is that the PS3's method is more seamless; it's almost as if you don't have to do anything...

Heheh... I bought the rubber covers for my Wiimotes (for my friends with slippery hands). Those things, while very comfortable and nice, are a pain in the ass to take off everytime I have to sync remotes. So I guess it's in part my fault there for making the syncing process more annoying on the Wii... =P

So when I got my Game Informer, I was surprised to see that RFoM got just as high of a score as GoW, as the word I had heard before was of it being an OK, solid shooter, nothing special. But I guess I was wrong. Some of those guns and grenades sound pretty sweet, as do the different play modes. But two questions. How is the story in RFoM? That's the one thing that pissed me off about Gears was the lack of any story whatsoever, as I'm the kind of person who plays thru crappy gameplay if the story kicks ass (i.e. 24 the video game).

The story is very good. I'd say it's an excellent story for an FPS, a genre that isn't really know that much for its story-telling. There is a good amount of "intel" thrown around the levels too that help develop the story even more. I can see myself going back to some levels after I finish the game to find these missing pieces.

I really love the game... you have very well planned and designed levels, weapons and enemies, and every time I finish a level I'm rewarded with some very nice story development.
Only con I've heard so far is that the single-player campaign is pretty short. I have yet t finish it, but I don't want it to end so early, not while I'm sill having great fun... =(

And also, what other games are you really looking forward too? I don't read up much on PS3 games, so the only good games I'm hearing about are Lair and Resistance. Oh yeah, and a third.

My "to get" list for the PS3 currently includes Lair, Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed and Armored Core 4. I think of those only Assassin's Creed won't be exclusive to the PS3.

Since there's no central online thing like in Live, have you encountered different levels of quality in the games you played online?

Can't say much on that yet, I've only played two online matches so far so I don't think I've experienced enough of the online play to comment on it yet.

Can you even afford more than one game after paying SO MUCH for the damned thing?  ;D

I've been saving up for these two consoles for a while, and since I broke up with my girlfriend a few months ago I find myself with a lot more disposable income. =P

Have you seen Lair yet Solaren? I saw a kid playing it at Walmart and was flabbergast. It's exactly for that kind of stuff that I wanted a PS3.
I wonder why they haven't released a playable demo of it on the PS Store yet. I mean walmart already has it for some reason....

So how does the PS3's friends list work? I heard that it's not unified. So if you wan to play with people from Resistance in Rainbow Six, do you have to manually enter each of there names again? Also I've been hearing people complain that they have to sync the Sixaxis all the time. Is this really the case or is this overblown?

I can't really tell you anything about friend list integration yet, since I only have one friend on my list and we haven't been on at the same time yet. =P

About the Sixaxis, I've had an easier time syncing it to my friend's PS3 than my Wii remotes. To sync a PS3 controller all you have to do is attach it to the console and press the PS button on the controller, as opposed to the Wii where you have to open the battery case, press a button there and press one on the console at the same time.

I also don't like the fact you pay $50 for a controller and don't even get a charge cable!
You don't get rechargeable batteries with the Wii controllers also... =P
Yeah, but I was annoyed at that too, would be nice to be able to charge both controllers at the same time.

So tell me what the new update did to the system.  I hear that it fixed some things and now other things are broken.
From what I've seen, absolutely nothing. Nothing broke, and nothing new seems to have been added.Probably just a bug fix for a bug that never happened to me.

To tell the truth, I think I might be out of touch with the gaming community and media... it used to be that everyone was a GC and PS2 fanboy and hated the Xbox's guts, and now all of a sudden everyone's praising the 360 and bashing the PS3. What caused this anyway? Was it the PS3's price point that turned the whole thing around or is it just a PR matter?

P.S.: On a side note, I was finally able to get myself a new Wii shipped to me (after the whole error code 110213 crap), and I have to say, Nintendo customer support is one of the friendliest, nicest and most helpful I have ever seen.

I guess I can give a summary of my experiences with the system so far. I preordered mine from a small EB Games close to my place (time in line: 2 hours) so I didn't have to go through all the crazyness of launch day.

 - I really really like new controller. It's light. it's cordless. The buttons and d-pad are softer on my fingers (which means less blisters and sore thumbs in fighting games like GGXX as compared to the PS2 controller). Also, the L2 and R2 buttons are now "trigger" shaped which gives the whole thing a better feeling.

 - Resisitance is an awesome game. ... I think that pretty much sums my experience with the game.

 - There's actually an option on the menu that lets you install another OS into the console. Not much to do with it right now but I'm intrigued about the possiblities. If anything Sony is giving us a very nice present in helping hack some cool stuff into the box.

 - Connection to the internet works straight out of the box (can't say the same about my Wii... >=(  ...don't worry Nintendo, I still love you)

 - Free online multiplayer.

 - While the SIXAXIS seems like just a rip-off of the Wii controller, both consoles seem to have a very different take on how to utilize the technology.

 - Not much variety in the online store yet, but I guess it's forgivable since they just launched.

 - A lot easier to add friends that the Wii (no long friend codes) but longer setup for connecting to their online service.

 - Doesn't have a "brick" Power unit like the 360 and the Wii, but boy does this thing get pretty hot. I don't think I'll have to turn the heater on this winter! (ok maybe I'm exagerating a bit...)

 - A lot of people seem to be complaining that it doesn't come with an HDMI cable. Doesn't mean much to me since I'm still using an old school SDTV (I know I know... sacrilege! But how do you think I could afford a PS3? I'd rather spend money on the part that runs the games than on the part that displays them)

 - Not many people seem to have it yet, so I only have one friend so far with whom I can play Resistance online =(

All in all I'm really happy with my PS3 so far. I think Sony may be getting hit with way more criticism than it really deserves. In the end I think a console's value is determined by how much fun it can provide you and in my case the PS3 is performing its job very well.

Let me know if any of you have any specific questions about it.

uuuuh.... so I opened this thread thinking I might find some fellow PS3 owners to mingle with, but all there seems to be here is some good ol' fashion console bashing. =P

Anyway... if anyone who reads this happens to have a PS3, look me up so we can join in on some multiplayer action. My handle on the Playstation Network is "Makai" without the quotes.

I'd give out my Wii friend code also but the darn thing got screwed up by the infamous Error Code: 110213  =(

I just stood in front of my GameStop for a couple of hours this morning to pre-oreder one of the 6 PS3's they were getting. I plan on doing the same thing once the Wii pre-orders come out. Not entirely sure about any games yet though... seems like most of the stuff I want won't be available at launch yet.

I've been working on getting everyone at my workplace hooked on the show. It start with just one of my co-workers and me and we've managed to hype it up to about eight other people in the office to the point where some of us are probably going to start meeting on Mondays to watch the show together. =D

Funny you should mention this. I just got myself a new computer yesterday and I'm installing Windows XP on it at this very moment. Only difference is when I went out looking for all the parts I always try to get the most for my money. I spent almost an entire evening looking for a video card and eventually managed to get it 10 bucks cheaper than I expected. :)
I did however find out that the case I bought went on sale for 5 bucks cheaper the day after.  >:( Still a net gain of 5  dollars I suppose.  :P

So did you manage to get the girl's number in the end?  ;)

I just though I'd point out to this article as a rebuttal to Michael Moore's claims in the movie.

Just roll past the top stuff on the site, the real article is further down.
