I honestly can't predict right now.

Once I get a hold on an early release editor, maybe I'll have a better idea.

What might happen is that as I create creatures in the editor (pre-release), I'll come up with stories in my mind for them.

Once I get the game, I'll probably start a new campaign from the cell stage and work in a story that ties all those stories together.

But again, I won't know for sure until I get it.

i dont know... even though they did say they were going to release the editors b4 release. i think it may be too large an aspect of the game to give away. maybe they will have a closed beta editor to populate, but im not so sure that they will release the editor in form of a free dl, but hey i have been wrong b4

They probably won't release ALL the editors before release.  It will probably only be the Creature editor and POSSIBLY one other (I could see Building).  The main goals would be to:

1.  Get the public exciting by showing them a slice of the game.
2.  Let the public go ahead and start building content so there is a LARGE available pool to draw from upon release.

I probably won't create too many, and I know I won't share them (unless I somehow got written permission, which means mine would be OFFICIAL  ;D)

Anyway:

Pierson's Puppeter from Niven's Known Space
Buggers and Piggys from Ender's Game (and the sequels) by Orson Scott Card

I would probably also create some buildings or vehicles from the Stargate T.V. series.

Not many really, I'll mainly focus on my own original creatures, etc....

Like I said before - the SPORE release will be used as a symbolic "start the new fiscal year" gesture - they will release near the beginning of fy 2008. SPORE is easily the most asked about property in terms of EA's investors. There is increasing pressure to get this baby out to ship.

You might want to clarify what a fiscal year is before someone assumes you mean Spore won't be released until 2008.   ;)

This will probably be altered by the time of release so it takes maybe 5-10 creatures to build up the points for a MAJOR overhall of your creation.

Also, it's possible the DNA points you get are based on the total points used in the victim creature.

Kill something that could be made using 500 points, you might get 50.  Kill something that takes 1,000,000 points to build... INSTANT evolution.

yes it is huge, 65 years straight without sleep to see everything (probably not including the time you will spend on missions and creating your own stuff)...

Lol, Spore creature beanie babies that come in McDnalds happy meals. Except there is a beanie baby for every creature ever ceated in Spore. Collect all 40 jillion! Oh! And each creature comes with an access code that u type in at the spore site and then u get to play a very limited test run of the creature. EX: eat, run, attack, etc.

This right here isn't a bad idea!  Maybe not ALL the creatures created, but maybe the 10 or 20 most popular when the promotion starts.  And of course, if EA and Maxis DO manage to work up a Collectable Card Game using player content for the cards, that honestly will probably be a VERY big chunk of merchandising dollars.

I completely agree.

EVO stands as one of my favorite games, not just for the evolution but the (to me) interesting story line.

Having UNLIMITED evolutional tools to use and the freedom to create ANY story I want, that is what makes Spore SUPAH SHWEET!! to me. ;D

I'm thinking that if this tool is used, it would be an early (I.E. - CHEAP) tool to add to your UFO.

I'm getting the idea that all the features and abilities for your UFO have to be bought.

Sure, when you first get the UFO, you can EASILY place life within your home solar system, but your reach can't touch other solar systems until you buy the interstellar drive (which I imagine will cost a lot).

The Pan Spermia Meteor could be an early way to alter other solar systems when your funds are low but you want to go ahead and make your mark on the galaxy.

Granted, the more I think about it, I doubt that such a tool would be used OFTEN. But, it's a nice idea to me.

Plus, remember, in that "early design document" Will Wright:



There is that meteor with genetic data. I'm sure we'll see SOME reference to the Pan Spermia theory in the game. I'm just excited to see how.
