Spore: General / Display Total Playing Time
« on: October 03, 2008, 04:08:28 pm »
This game is soo much fun and totally addictive - gotta stop playing for a while because my hand hurts...

Does anybody know if there is a possibility to find out how long you have been playing?

Just saw this last night.

There is some nice cinematography in this movie, especially with the looms - and the train wreck is really spectacular. There is a whole lot of bloody violence and the lack of story and dialogue make it ultimately a rather boring and pointless picture.

But: during the scenes in Brooklyn, under and around the elevated train tracks I felt right at home, having spent a lot of time there in GTA IV  :D That was kind of weird... has anybody else had that kind of experience?

Portable Games / Re: Nintendo DS Lite Ads from South Korea

I already had a DS when I saw the Ads  :P

Anyway, I had the impression the ads were targeted at girls and women, showing how much fun you can have with the DS - they also always show a "girl-compatible" game like Nintendogs or Mario . So I don't think this is a case of selling with sex. And the ads seem to work, because in the subway in Seoul I mostly saw girls playing the DS, guys usually had a PSP.

You can always raise the bounty on the AI. If their bounty is higher than yours, the pirates go after them.
But I found it's not too bad to fight them once in a while, so you can level your capital ships.

Thanks - found it now. When you start a new game, there's a tab called "Player Setup" and there you can change the name.

Does anybody know if you can change your name in a single player game from "New Player" to something else?

Portable Games / Re: Pata Pata Pata Pon! PATAPON!
« on: March 02, 2008, 11:14:54 pm »
So has anybody been playing this?
I absolutely love it. The artwork is great, the animations are fun and the gameplay keeps getting harder (trying to cross the desert now).
After each level you see the patapons walking back to town with wagons full of the loot you (they) got  :) The music changes all the time, throwing in odd beats to make it harder to keep time. When the patapons get into fever mode (after 10 combos without a mistake) they start jumping around and attacking wildly and sometimes they start singing ecstatically which always cracks me up and causes me to miss a beat... (and makes the patapons complain about my lousy drumming). A nice touch is that you can upgrade the weapons on each of your patapons yourself, but if you want to get on to the next level as soon as possible you can also just click the optimize button.
Great game!

EDIT: BTW: It's worthwhile playing with headphones so you can here more of the music and sound effects!

Chicks sell.

"Do you come with the car?"

But they really do play the DS - saw them in the subway. And no guys so far. Guess they're more into Starcraft and WOW at the PC Bangs.

Portable Games / Nintendo DS Lite Ads from South Korea

I'm spending a couple of weeks working in Seoul. On one of my forays through the city I came across these ads for the Nintendo DS.... cute aren't they?

I'd definitely keep both. Both are great systems- each with it's own advantages.
BTW: a great action puzzle game for the PSP nobody has mentioned yet is EXIT!

Western release confirmed. Slightly worried at the new assistant in the screen shot

In the video you see five different assistants, Will is one of them  :D

Have to agree with Naronto: Singularity Sky by Charles Stross and the sequel Iron Sunrise are great books. A lot of suspense and a lot of offhand remarks and descriptions of future technologies and gadgets.

Some other favorites:

Neal Asher - Gridlinked
Greg Egan - Axiomatic, Permutation City

and of course all the books by William Gibson...

The snowball fights are very satisfying, when find yourself in a good group that manages to pull off a couple of consecutive wins  ;) - can't keep from wondering, what we're gonna be able to do with all these candy cane shards at the end of the event....

I think ArenaNet did a good job with the new xmas quests, you have to ask around in the cities to find stuff and the players have to help one another.

And one thing that's great about these holiday events in Guild Wars are the seasonally decorated towns, with a lot of love for details - they even have NPCs throwing snowballs around now!

I started playing in spring. As I'm playing PvE solo, I got frustrated after a while because it started to be very difficult to complete missions. When Oblivion came out I stopped playing.
Then in autumn I restarted playing Guild Wars, continued where I had left off. I took some more time considering which skills to take with me, in which order to use them - and suddenly missions were doable again.
I love the look of  the game and enjoy exploring the territory. I think the game is quite a challenge to play solo (I'm three missions from the end of Prophecies and did all Bonuses except one). The skill system, capturing skills, different armor, the dyes, bartering for collectors items and loot keep the game interesting. And of course the holiday events are a lot of fun. Right now in then Winterfest Special I even started doing a bit of PvP with the snowball fights. And the candy weapons and the elves are a blast!
I'm looking forward to starting new characters in Cantha and Elona  ;)
