Spore: General / Re: I thought you could play offline?

Yes, you need to pay a monthly internet fee to be able to rent Spore.

Why would you think you could play a single player game without access to the internet?  That's just plain logical.

IMO, they should all have abilities that can be used frequently.  A 1 minute cool down would be nice...

Trader: Automatically gather all spice from owned planets in a 10 parsec radius.  Recharge is 1 minute.
Bard: Boost relationship by 10.  (Maximum happiness from ability is 50).  Recharge is 1 minute.

Scientist: Fires a nuclear weapon.  Destroys everything in it's radius.  Good for destroying cities.  Does not break "galactic code".  Recharge is 1 minute.
Shaman: Keep the ability the same, but if you use it on your homeworld, it will return you to where you last used this ability.  (Leave recharge at 1 minute).

Ecologist: Set recharge to 1 minute.  Increase quantity gathered to 10.
Zealot: Instantly convert one city or colony.  Has 15% chance of failure for each "happy face".  Does not break "galactic code".  Recharge is 1 minute.

Knight: All allied UFOs are immune to damage for 30 seconds.  Recharge is 1 minute.
Warrior: Take half damage and deal 50% more damage.  Lasts 1 minute.  Recharge is 1 minute.

I can escape the intro movie if I play on hirez screen. If I set it on lowrez then I can't skip it.
EA will defiantly fix that bug in the next patch.  They don't want you to be able to get around it.

I only play on hard.  Unfortunately, it's still ridiculously easy for me.  You can destroy cities with one bomb, destroy fleets of enemies without getting damaged, can get more money than you would ever realistically need with just one good spice colony, etc.

It needs to be MUCH harder, IMO.  But I guess Spore really isn't a game, it's just a toy.

Spore: General / Re: Spore Physics
« on: October 05, 2008, 04:46:17 pm »
The second video is by someone else who video taped a star system moving.  There person was stuck in a system (perhaps by getting there by detouring) but another star moved its way into range. I'm not sure if this is physics or just the game giving a person a way out.

It seems like an extremely remarkable coincidence if it is anything other than the game helping the stuck player out.
1) Open the video in full screen.
2) Pause the video.
3) Click and hold the button that controls the time.
4) Drag it back and forth repeatedly and compare the beginning and the end of the movie.

All stars in sight move in approximately the same direction and speed. This is because the galaxy spins.

There person was stuck in a system (perhaps by getting there by detouring)
Do you know they were stuck?  As far as I know, it's not possible to get stuck under normal gameplay.

but another star moved its way into range.
Do you know this?  From what it looks like to me, the star isn't moving relative to the planet (it looks like ALL of the stars are spinning around the galactic core, like normal), and the video never shows the red line change to a green line.

I've never seen a moving star
I've never seen a star not move.

I guess it's all relative.  ;)

It seems to me that this may be a race condition.

1) Does your computer lag a lot when you play?  What are the specs of your computer? (OS, RAM, and CPU mainly)

2) Try adding "-jobPriority:0" (without quotes) to the end of the target of your shortcut.  Does that make the effect the bug?  Does it effect the lag?

So, since the patch, the escape key no longer bypasses the EA splash screen and has issues on normal cinematic screens.
This is a "feature", not a bug.

Anyway, I would try reinstalling the game, but I dont want to lose an install/activation.
As long as you install it on the same computer, don't change your operating system, and don't change any hardware, it won't use up an install.

So now, on to the problem. I have a Civ-level duplicate of my current creature, complete with cool outfit, sitting in my Sporepedia... that I can't use.
Why can't you just create a new civ mode game and use it there?

You will have the added benefit of being able to choose the type (military/religious/economic) for your first city.

Because I wanted the race to be Zealots, not Wanderers (or whatever class you get with only 1 card).
And the race doesn't have the cards, even though you played through the game with it?  Weird, I haven't had that problem before.

Do this:

1) Do a new civ game with that race
2) Use the setConsequenceTrait cheat to get the cards you deserve
3) Go into the creature editor (from the city screen)
4) Add a part and then remove it (if you don't, it won't let you save)
5) Save your creature
6) Leave the game (no need to save)
7) Do a new game with this creature

Some things I didn't know:

-In creature mode, you can dismiss a member of your party (by moving cursor over the icon and clicking the 'x').

-In creature mode, when impressing other creatures, you need to do the same social skill as the creature you are trying to impress (if they dance, you need to dance too) to get full effect.  Now I know why everyone was shaking their heads at me.   :-[

-In tribal mode, it's actually possible to loose.  I was thinking it was like space/creature/cell modes where you keep your progress if you die.

-In tribal mode, all food resources can be overused and will take time to renew.  Because of this, if you want to gain food with as little effort as possible, send only send 1-2 tribe members for each food task.  (The tribe members will forget what they were doing if they run out of work to do).

-Using steganography, the game hides your creature data inside picture files.  Don't make the same mistake I did.  When I was reorganizing my files,  I saw that the "My Spore Creations" only had picture files in it, and so I deleted it.  Later, I found out that my creatures were missing. ;)

Spore: General / Re: T2 Planet Producing 0 spice per hour... What gives?
« on: October 03, 2008, 03:59:15 pm »
The connections should look like this ...

          Entertainment  ---- City Hall
                   |                   /
                   |                  /
               House ---    Factory --- House
                                    \
                                     \
                                     House

That's about how my early T-1 colonies are set up for max Spice production.

Here is a better setup:

F--C--E
|   |   | <--this link isn't nessicary
H--F--H

It is cheaper and gives 5 production links instead of just 4.

It has less happiness (0 to 1 instead of 2), but I don't see any effect of happiness in space mode (only unhappiness seems to matter).

I wasn't asking how to delete even the AI versions of my creatures empires, but thanks anyways. I only have a few space empires and they are pretty well scattered.
I was replying to MasterChiToes.

I assumed that by "Galactic Wipe" he meant he wanted to destroy the entire galaxy and get a new one.

nope, cities WILL stay. stubborn little buggers.

If the cities stay, but the changes revert, wouldn't that mean the city you placed is now under water?

Actually, I'll have to burst your bubble here as far as the supernova. In fact, if you have an empire in space when you delete the gamesave, it will live on as an AI controlled empire! I just ran into a race which was near my current game that I had deleted the save of (the old game, not the current) and in fact, everything was still there, even the relic stash I had on the moon of that homeworld!

There needs to be a Galactic Wipe option then...

Delete everything in this folder (for XP):
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\SPORE\Games

It will delete all of your save games, destroy the galaxy, and create a new one when you start the game up again.

I have an idea...

-find an ocean
-use terraforming tools on the planet about 60 times
-raise the ocean enough so you can place a colony
-place a colony
-leave and come back to the planet

If it reverts the changes, the city would be at the bottom of the ocean.

:)

Did you follow the instructions exactly?
As far as I know, yes.
