Spore: General / Re: Spore, Wired's 1# Most Disappointing Game Of The Year.

How utterly stupid.  The guy who wrote that should be shot.  Repeatedly.

Um. I agree with the article completely.

Thinking any game will be an end all game... has anyone ever come across an end-all game before... a real one? I think not.

Half-Life 2
Haha, wrong, Half life 1

Once again, Spore hits the disaster charts of 2008. http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/12/disappointing-g.html

Surely, 2 million copies within a month is a considerable amount. But from the countless of interviews and article i've read through up until the release-date, it has been mentioned or insinuated more than a dozen times that the game developpers expected sales at least as high as The Sims...

I suppose I should qualify all this with the comment that I did enjoy Spore to some extent. But it was just a fairly average experience. For a game that has the potential to be mind-blowing, it was suprisingly limited in scope and execution.

Seconded. I fully agree.

Even as a long-term member in these forums, i must admit that he has a point. The fighting scenes (even though they are graphically improved) are nonetheless very much like the 1990's Pokemon battles. The opposing creature is not attacked, but its "lifepoints" is. There is no whatsoever close-up interaction between duelling creatures. A long time ago i realised that EA is aiming towards The Sims fans, but honestly; we aren't all 9 year-old kids.

Am i the only one getting so tired of defending the homeplanet every 60 seconds so that you too has decided just to screw it and let the last colony re-colonize itself after its destruction.
It's really annoying that after an attack (where your allies spaceships are destroyed after 5 seconds) you have 1 spaceship to fight off 30..

Spore: General / My little Spore-mischief of september the 3rd

Hello honoured members of gamingsteve.com

Today when i woke up, i thought: "Why can't i have the game today?". I then decided that after my lesson at the University i would try to persuade a salesman to sell Spore before the official release (here in Denmark it's the 4th). I went to EA games: "Nope, you have to wait until tomorrow". I went to GAME: "No way, the official release is the 4th - NOT the 3rd"... On and on i went and played stupid: "Oh, i thought it came out today". After half a dozen gamingstores, i went down the priority list and went to Blockbuster where a trainee were being teached up in his new work: "Hello, i heard that you've received Spore and i want to buy it". The trainee clearly didn't know about the game and i spelled it out for him - he went to the stock room, got it and scanned it in: "399 Kroner please" (the danish credit: Kroner = Crowns").

So my tip to all who's still waiting: Just try your luck - be decisive and determined in your voice: don't ask for the game, demand it!

As for now, it's time to put the disc into my computer, and after 3 years of waiting, PLAY SPORE!!

@IAMME: Thank you for mentioning that point, i thought it was "Spore on Fujitsu-Siemens computers ONLY forum". Very kind of you.
However Ichthyostega is comparing Spore origins to the creature possibilities on the PC/MAC version - as i'm sure you know, those are like two different games..

EDIT: Just saw the pic: If i'm correct, then that is a regular mouth with tiny shark fins attached to the side of it. (i only know the danish names of the parts being used in the CC)

I hope you are aware that "Spore: Origins" is a very different thing than "Spore" (the pc game)

btw, when stating these "confirms" please post som evidence (vids, photos etc.) to support your point.
