I think Vulcans point here is that do you think there'll be more things that will be in Spore that the developers didn't really intend to make but ended up finding it and leaving it there. They never intended for you to be able to throw things with the abduction beam, but when they found the bug that did it they realized it would be a fun thing to add to the game so they made it a feature.

I think it really adds to the games depth when it even surprises a developer. Like during one of the E3 demos, Will Wright was surprised to find a crop circle like feature carved into the surface of a barren rocky planet he'd happened across. That sorta thing makes the game look more fun overall.

Spore: General / A new Spore video (possibly) surfaces!

I was browsing through Youtube yesterday when I came across a video of spore that looks like it came from a french event not too long ago. I don't know it this is new to anybody here but I thought I'd post it just in case.

Things I noticed:
-The limbs palette seems to have tentacles now, that or tail-like limbs
-You can also add tentacle-like accessories
-Looks like you can use more than one type of feet on your creature

Overall its just nice to find something like this during the huge period of not information that started after Lezipig.

I agree that the same-colored dots are definately grouped together somehow, but I think the orange dot represents your home city. Being the center of your empire, it'd be pretty dire to know which dot on the map it is.

Like I said, the blue dots are most likely either neutral cities or your other cities while the orange dot is your home city and the black dot is an enemy city.

I'm assuming that it'll play like an RTS where you just click on the vehicle and order it to attack the target. The reason Will Wright failed to control the vehicle in the GDC 05 video was because he most likely didn't attempt to give it orders, either intentionally to show the vehicle AI or assuming that it'd automatically attack the tanks leveling its city.

As for the map...I dunno. I think the orange dot is your home city, the black dot is a city you're at war with, and the blue dots are either allied cities, cities you control, or neutral cities. As with a lot of Spore things, we just won't know til we get the game or close to it.

Eh, of course things are going to be kinda slow cosnidering the game the forum is based on won't be out for almost a year, and the fact that there really isn't any new information to discuss or anything. Any discussion going on seems to either be people new to Spore asking questions or hypothetical situations that could happen.

I think somebody somewhere said that you'll be able to do Civ Phase stuff during the UFO phase. I'm not really sure how this would work though or if its true. The best idea I can come up with would be like, you could carry vehicles and troops to the target planet in your UFOs cargo bay and drop them down with the abduction beam. Sounds cool enough though!

I think they said that where you start the Creature Game is determined by your actions in the Cell Game, so maybe there has to be a certain set of statistics you have to meet to have your creature start on the crazy pink planet.

Also, when they've shown the game just entering the creature phase, the planets look exactly same as they do later on. So the planet you start on is determined before you've even made your creature (the guy at Leipzig said that you'll start the creature game as a kind of amorphous slug thing, which you then sculpt into your creature).

Ah, it is somekind of game. About photography and aliens?

Well right now theres not much to the game to do besides take pictures of the things. The combat stuff is still very early in development and I don't think they've even started on the mission stuff yet.

Personally I think it'd be awesome to be able to look at any one spot on a planet and be able to fly right down to it and land on it. I think its a great idea to have a limitless galaxy that you can fly around and explore, setting up home bases on planets/moons/asteroids. Heck, thats the main reason I want Spore! The only thing that makes me think about the game is...with such a huge scale, how will you encounter other players? Seems like it'd be pretty difficult to randomly encounter another player in this game unless you go to a focal point like a space station. (Although since there aren't any jumpdrives and everythings pretty much in area this would make it much easier to escape from griefers than it would be in EVE Online or Freelancer where you have to sit at a jumpgate for 40 seconds and wait to let it jump you to a safe system, all the while getting blasted)

It seems odd to me that the vehicle editor seems to be using DNA points to buy parts like in the creature game. I mean....using DNA points to buy mechanical parts? Hmmm

OK we know that in the tribal stage you give your creatures tools and weapons that affects if your race is peaceful or militaristic (is that a word?) but how will this affect the UFO stage?, my theory is that the more peaceful your creature the more effective the terreforming tools will be and the more aggressive the creatures the more powerful the weapons.

Seems to me like it wouldn't really matter because you control what your species does in both stages. The way you play your species in the tribal game will probably effect how NPC cities/civilizations will behave when you move beyond the tribal stage; but by the time you get to the space phase you already control your entire planet and thus your entire species, so it doesn't really effect anything there. However, it will effect how the NPC copies of your creatures behave in other players games. If you have a warmongering species then they'll be warmongers in other players games. But in your own game you have full control over what they do so it won't really matter to you.

Also, I don't think it would effect what you can buy in the UFO. Most likely you'll be able to add any upgrade to the UFO once you meet the requirements for it.
