TV / Re: Firefly

Love Firefly, loved Serenity, have both on DVD. I was a fan of the show when it was on fox and one of those individuals who was ticked that it got cancelled, then later on totally ecstatic to learn a movie was being made. I just wish there was a way to continue the story. I've heard there's a few comic books too but have never seen them myself.

There are 3 comics, and a graphic novel.  AFAIK, they tie Firefly to Serenity.  Haven't got round to reading them yet.

Portable Games / Re: DS or PSP - The Poll
« on: March 06, 2006, 01:36:59 am »
I bought a DS when they came available in the UK, played Mario64 and the Metroid demo for a while, then went back to my GBA.  When GTA came out, I bought a PSP.  I played that until POP: Revelations came out, which is great.  And then Mario Kart came out.  Haven't been near the PSP since.

The PSP is a nice machine, needing some games ( are you listening Sony??? ).  As an MP3 player, it doesn't compete with my iPod.  Browsing is painful.  Watching UMD's on it, is nice, but they're a tad too expensive.

Until some decent PSP games come out, the DS is the most fun console to have.

Yup, and the actors ahave all disperesed into doing other things. Critchon presens scrapheap (junkyard) challenge now for some reason :P

Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) was presenting Scrapheap Challenge before Red Dwarf ended. He also does Scrappy Races now too.
Chris Barrie (Rimmer) is a team captain on Petrolheads (UK car based quizshow)
Craig Charles (Lister) has a BBC 6 Music program (about funk I think)
Don't know what the rest of 'em are up to...

Craig Charles is also currently "starring" in Coronation Street.  The last time I saw Danny John-Jules ( Cat ) was in Blade II.  Sure I saw mention of Chris Barrie being in third Tomb Raider movie.

Would have to be FarScape and Scrubs, though I'll admit to not watching them when they aired.  I tend to buy the boxsets when they come out, too impatient for the wait between episodes  :-[

I was really into Smallville at one point, but drifted away when it became the Lana & Clark show, though some of the excerpts I've seen for the later series look more interesting.

Wintersmith is the the next Tiffany Aching book, also the next main Discworld book has been announced: Making Money
It'll be another Moist von Lipvig book (He first appeared in Going Postal for those who don't know). It was announced on Paul Kidby's website (http://www.paulkidby.com/news/jan2006.html), scroll down to the 6th. I think it's due in Octoberish time but don't quote me on that...

A new one?  Yay!

I loved that show! Why did it get canceled? :-\

Sure I read somewhere, cost and the need to make more StarGate were the main reasons.

If this is actually to be the last scheduled Discworld book as Pratchett has said, he's ended it on a very good note.

Really?  I know I can always turn to a Discworld novel when I'm need of a funny read.  Be a shame if there's to be no more.

A scan of Amazon turns up Wintersmith as his next novel, but it doesn't mention that it's Discworld :(

Portable Games / Re: Should I get a DS?
« on: February 10, 2006, 01:16:36 am »
I bought a DS shortly after it came out, played Mario64 and the Metroid demo on it for a couple of months, then put it to the side due to lack of must have games, and went back to my SP ( Mario & Luigi SS, Mario vs DK, FF Tactics ).  I could/should have played them on the DS, but the SP fits in my pocket better :)

Since getting Mario Kart, I've even started to neglect my WoW account.  I've just M&L Partners In Time, to tide me over until Animal Crossing ( I live in the UK, and didn't want to import ).

In short, buy one.

I know someone's already mentioned him, but Neal Stephenson is certainly worth a read.  Start with Snow Crash; with the exception of Zodiac - not scifi, though - I don't think his earlier stuff is that funny.  I also found HeadCrash by Bruce Bethke, amusing.

I've just managed to save up and buy all the boxsets, and the mini-series.  I'm on the last DVD of the second series, and wow.  It's one of the best sci-fi shows I've seen.  Another fine show cut down in it's prime.

I'd try Good Omens first.  Possibly Strata, too, as it sorta leads you into the Discworld novels.  I found Dark Side Of The Sun quite enjoyable.  The Discworld novels are worth reading in order, though some of them can stand as sets of their own.

Damn you, Nintendo!

Looks like it's been designed to match the Rev controller.  Be interested to see how much brighter the screens are supposed to be, considering how nice the 'old' DS screens are.

Must.  Resist.

Portable Games / Prince Of Persia: Revelations
« on: December 20, 2005, 02:51:52 pm »
Has anyone played this?  I'm waiting for it to be shipped, and have been looking for reviews.  The ones I've seen of it, have been very average, 70-80%.  Most compare it to POP: Sands Of Time, a game which I never got round to playing ( too much Tomb Raider :).  It looks like it's the same sort of thing, though.  Puzzles, and platforms.

Profit, though AFAIK, the UK got to see a couple more episodes than the US, before it was taken off the air.  Now if only it would get a R2 DVD release.

What else?  Space: Above & Beyond, anyone?  Could probably list a few more if I thought about it.
