Last spring I saw the GDC video and obsessed over spore, spent hours googling spore-related material until I had a headache, then I stopped and forgot about it until mid-july when I remembered that it had been through E3.  I believe if I can I will try to forget it until sometime in the future.
"A watched pot doesn't boil"  as they say, so I am going to stop watching it.

I am just thinking about the following.
I hope that our planets will be able to have strange non-oxygen atmospheres and still support life.  like the Hydrogen atmosphere I used in my example.  So a race would have to develop without fire, they would have to generate electricity some other way, like solely on water, or wind power.  An interesting thought: a whole race of enviromentalists.  ha!

That's pretty much what I gathered, except two things about the electricity before fire.

First, Fire was already invented, it wasn't controlled.

Likewise, If fire was not controlled, how could we have ignited the gun powder.
Think about another type of propulsion, say one that uses pressure, or something that uses a chemical mixture to propel the projectile.  maybe your creature breathes hydrogen or something, a firearm in a hydrogen atmosphere would be lethal to all involved, for example.

In the gamespy breakfast article with Will Wright, he said that E3 2006 was Spore's last E3.  http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/spore/707976p1.html
You have to give some other game makers a chance to win something too.

um, Necro?  if there is no right or wrong why are you offended at atheists being compared to stalin, Since what he did was not wrong according to you? (since there is no right or wrong remember)  Stalin was a great guy, just in his perception he thought that it would be alright to use his power to kill millions of innocent people.
Oh? so I guess there is a right and a wrong.
sigh... consistency hurts.

hm, yes
I don't think it is actually possible to have 2 planets in the same orbit that travel in opposite directions, but i could be wrong. I doubt it matters much though, as i very much doubt it will be in the game.
not that it matters much since any naturally occuring ones wouldn't last very long.  Hehe.  picture it.  you start your game as a protozoa and two minutes into the game the game ends and says that "your planet just collided with its twin, thank you for playing"

I have wondered the same thing.  I think that being able to stand on ones back leg(s) or on both back and front would be complicated but add interesting verbs to the game.

I would have to say I would probably print a creature first.  I am a poor college kid so I probably couldn't afford much more.  But I would like to print a UFO from my favorite round though.

I would guess that your race moves into the civilization phase as soon as their society reaches a more organized level.  which in my guess would be around the human Greece, or Rome.
But who really knows at this point.  they may even be hashing that out right now.

So, for example, just because someone thinks that there is not enough evidence for God doesn't mean that there isn't a God.  Or, even though someone doesn't think that there is enough evidence to support evolution it may still have happened.  Is that what you're saying?

As much as I love debates.  Debating whether consistent atheism is going to destroy the world was not the purpose of this thread.  (please calm down folks or start a thread of your own to defend your religion though I think that if you want to have a personal debate with someone, then debate it useing PMs.)

Back to topic.  good point Asheron, procedural religion-ing.  if you program your creatures to act like they have a God, or gods, then they will act accordingly.  If you program them to act like there is no God or gods, or to be hostile toward a God or gods, (which would follow stalin's approach very well) then they will act in that way.  That way the way in which you play would determine the religiousity of your race.  But then there couldn't really be any bonuses unless they had procedural bunuses as well.  (now ya'll can fight over how an atheist willosaur would act differently than a monotheistic one, ha!)

(I think "procedural" is my new favorite word, thanks to WW.)

Maybe a person could deactivate "religions" and then have no positives or negatives.
