Oh Man, I have one of those Quantiums...five seconds after I turned it on it became self-aware and stole all of my money.  Now I have to do what ever it tells me, or it will erase my bankaccount.  The only free time I have now is when its defraging.   :'(

This is a stretch, but what about player content?  Why not design your own destroyed cities? Then they would be unique.

What I think will happen is that there will be one animation for a destroyed city.  Then over time it will fade into the ground and be eventually be gone leaving no evidence it ever existed.

Raisans will know my civ only by the burnt out cinders they leave as remains of his once great civ on his home planet named, "Alderaan" (probably). To me, all that matters is that my civ lives on to eradicate all life the in his universe. Fear the Funkians. Even better, they are ejected from the game for being too powerful. If I were you I would not advance to the space age. Foolish being, you throw yourself out into the void without the slightest incling of what awaits. Be seeing you...

Well, it was a tough crusade and in the end we prevailed.  Now, all your bass are belong to us!!

LadyM is right.  Join me and the crusade to end violence shall begin!

I wonder what benefits evolution could bring after reaching the Space Age? I think it will be all tech after that point.  You may be able to modify your creature at will once you have the tech, but it will probably be for aesthetic reasons only and not survival.  So once your civ survives to reach the space age you will no longer need to evolve, having instead to focus on research.

From what I've heard you lose control of individuals only after the tribal phase when you reach civilization phase.

The last bit of info on this was from GDC/e3 05 time. That info was - "Yes, underwater civs are possible, blah blah blah"

So until we're told otherwise, Yes. Underwater creatures and civs are in.

I think there's a misinterpretation here.  When they said underwater civ they meant that once you have researched the tech you could start a colony underwater not that you could achieve sentience and stay underwater.  Being a sea creature is only one stage in the game. Once you evolve to a certain point your creature will have to be on land.

Yes, I think most people would like to be able to customize as much as they can.

Does anyone remember the name of the planet destroying beam?

Yes, I'm the last surviving lifeform that saw "Battle Beyond the Stars" (1978 i think) in which the Stellar Converter was used to destroy a planet.

Hey Uroboros,

I've watched about 3hrs of internet footage about this game and I'm glad you're jotting down your cencerns!  I do have to say that my impression of this games design is that each species will have only one homeworld.  While a player may choose to seed other plantes with life, I believe that the developers and dubya dubya (WW) have localized the monolith so that: 1) a Monolith only effect the planet it is on.  2) Only the first species to touch the monolith benefits from it.

Also, if a player seeds multiple planets with the same species and puts a monolith on each planet, then I predict something interesting will happen.  Based on the environment of each planet and any other creatures you decide to drop on the surface the computer will likely choose to evolve each of them differently!  There is either a random process, or algorithm the computer uses to choose the parts for the next stage of evolution for each species.  So the result is that you get multiple space fairing races that have common ancestry, but are actually different in appearance.

That is my hope, anyway.
