Spore: General / Re: Anyone else a little disappointed by the CC?
« on: June 18, 2008, 09:35:08 pm »
You are going to be very disappointed with Spore when it comes out then, I am almost sure of it. You will probably think the game will be the same as the GDC video when in reality it was just a prototype. There has to be things cut because of bugs, programming time/hours, as well as funding....Maxis needs to get this game out in a reasonable period of time and it is more then over due (especially in EA's eyes who have put forth well over 50 million for this investment). There are always going to be last minute cuts and changes, you need to get over the "hype" and just enjoy the game for what it is instead of nitpicking what it is not.

I was just pointing out something that I noticed. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also, I have been following this game since before there were screens of anything and I don't recall anything being cut from the editor overall, save symmetry.  I guess what I am saying is how can one be disappointed when it is the same thing they have shown us for years?

In early builds, feet could face either (any?) direction. See the "this guy moves just as fast backwards as forwards" creature from the initial GDC Will Wright movie.

I would like it if you could mark a checkbox that says "NSFW" or something as sometimes people just want to share these things with their friends.

Spore: General / Spore Mentioned on The Cobert Report
« on: June 09, 2006, 10:19:59 pm »
A quick search led me to believe this hasn't been posted yet. Last night on the Cobert Report, Cobert's guest was a guy that supported video games, and had written a book about their positive effects on people/kids. At the end of the interview, Cobert asked him what game should we look forward to, and he said Spore (and briefly described it). I was sad when nobody in the crowd cheered to that. =(

Sorry I couldn't make it. My transportation fell under at the last minute and I couldn't scrounge up a replacement. My cell phone was also lost and dead (else I could have called myself to find it =p ), but I eventually found it. It all really sucks, and I don't suppose you'll be heading back there next year, either, eh?

Oh, and as a general thing that I tell people: Pictures of E3 make it look like it's dark, as if the expo is held outside at night. But it's actually inside and is well lit with soft carpeting!

Nope not yet. :/

here's a tip
STOP ****ING NECROBUMPING

Funny. If you make a new post, you get flamed with "use the search button," but if you post in old posts, you get flamed with "don't bump dead topics." I guess there's no way you can win.

But they need an ugly Alliance race.
The Horde gets a new pretty race, the Blood Elves, which they need to gather more players.
This means the Allianc get an ugly one since they don't already have one, Dwarves don't count as uglyso they should get one

The horde doesn't have any "ugly" race as far as I can see. The most unnattractive race is the Undead, whereas the Tauren look kickass and Trolls are mighty cool. And Orcs, well, Orcs are mostly just green humans. So now why does the alliance need an "ugly" race, especially considering half of the players out there are already creeped out by Gnomes? No, what the alliance race "needs" is simply a different, non-humanesque race, NOT an ugly one.

You may think that the current Horde races aren't ugly, but If you look at the stats it shows that most people do, becuse they play pretty and familiar races (Humans and Elves).

I also love playing the Horde, Tauren in particular, but sometimes I do think those races are pretty ugly. Look at Orc females for example.

In my eyes this is the ranking for prettiness in the game.
         1. Night Elves
         2. Humans
         3. Gnomes
         4. Tauren
         5. Undead
         6. Dwarves
         7. Trolls
         8. Orcs

As you can see there most of the Alliance is in the top 4.

Okay, you've linked a correlation. But have you linked a causation? No. It's like violent video games leads to violent people. You can't prove one causes the other. So just because people prefer the alliance doesn't give you the go ahead to say that the specific reason is because those people consider the horde ugly. In my experience, I find that most people think of the horde as evil, and most players want to play the "good" guys. Also, I consider the Eastern kingdoms to better suit my taste in looks. The only starting land that looks attractive to me on the horde side is the Tauren's. I like foresty, bright areas.

Oh, and for the record, here's how I see it:

Humans,
Tauren,
Night Elves,
Trolls,
Dwarves,
Orc,
Gnomes,
Undead

After looking it over, it seems quite balanced to me.

The Draenei come from the Outlands, and the Outlands is a +60 area. How would Outlands be a starting area for Draenei? Besides, their models are so freaking ugly, that I will never play Alliance again, if they're added as the new race.

Which is why you should take a look at the link I provided. The draeni have been redone, to look more attractive...Now why would that be? Also, if you read up on your Warcraft lore, you'll find out that the draeni weren't always ugly (they were mutated when their world was destroyed), and so it's possible that their unaltered form will be discovered in the expansion, so you'll be able to play as a much more attractive race than you'd think.

Wait a second? They're adding new content? Damn them. I mean, I already got my people made and they're leveling right along; I don't want to delete any of them to make new racial characters.

Unless someone could explain to me how you get around having only 4 characters at a time.

They add new content all the time, new dungeons, hot fixes. And you can have like 50 characters on any server. Who ever told you you can have only 4 characters in WoW, never listen tot hem ever again! They are not realible, mixing up Guild Wars and WoW!

I'm basing this on the fact that I attempted to make a 5th character and was told by the game itself that I would have to delete a character in order to make a new one. My friend had a similar result when he went from one server and tried to make a new character on another one. So far, it has appeared pretty unapologetically as if we're only able to have four. I don't know. I'll try it again. But thus far, that has been one of our biggest complaints about the game -- other than the fact that it's a massive pain in the ass to take your low-level night elf to any other part of the Alliance if you're unable to find a mage to port you. That is crap.

That's nonsense. All you do is take the boat to dustwallow marsh, and from there walk your way (with perhaps a couple of deaths, oh well) to Ironforge. It doesn't take that long, and I've had a lot of other characters do the reverse to get to Darnassus at low level.
