Spore: General / Re: Quick Question...
« on: July 11, 2009, 05:20:03 am »
Can you control the camera with the keyboard?

Yeah thats not what I mean. I want to stop all animation on the model. Even the slow rising and falling of the head and such. It's probably not possible but doesnt hurt to ask. I want to freeze the creature in a fixed position so that when I rotate around for different views it is all based on the same static position.

Spore: General / Quick Question...
« on: July 10, 2009, 09:23:28 pm »
I am making character sheets for all my spore creatures... 4-view spec sheets... Side view, front view, rear view and a 4th view from an angle. Basically I want to line the front, side and back views up to scale with each other for these character sheets.

My simple question is... Is there ANY way to freeze the creatures in place to a static position? Everytime I snap a picture of the creature it has moved somewhat or changed its position and my shots don't line up precisely. I can often get close but I really want to be able to pause the creature and take different snapshots of it just standing there having the height and positions be exact to one another. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any hack to export the model into some 3d software?

Spore: General / My Cute and Creepy Stopped Working...
« on: June 10, 2009, 11:21:42 pm »
Can anyone else log into Spore and see if they can access their Cute & Creepy Creatures? I was in the middle of making a creature and stopped before the patch... a few days later I went to log back in and continue and all the C&C creatures in my list are all locked saying I dont have the expansion! Is anyone else experiencing this? I am trying to notify EA/Maxis... But it is next to impossible... I can even send them an email on the Spore site... Keeps giving me an error.

Any help would be appreciated!

All the more reason to wait and see before buying.

And I wonder if they'll release new stuff for everyone before its release, like they did with the exoskeleton limbs and the C&C booster.

Cute and Creepy Booster? I am appalled at my not knowing (or knowing but not connecting the proper brain cells to) what this is...

There once was a game called Spore,
Who's fans over-hyped it galore.

They imagined so much and got all excited
Then the game was released and all the fans flighted.

For some were let down and turned to aggression,
You would think that the lot would have learned a good lesson.

Watch out for the hype-monster it's a bad beast,
JUST WAIT 'TIL THE GAME IS RELEASED!!!

Why not just fix it in a patch?

Spore: General / Re: Any way to turn off 'snap'...?
« on: January 13, 2009, 09:37:21 am »
Well I dealt with the ears/situation as I normally do... My question was more a general one going forward... Sometimes you cannot rotate precisely - because a symmetrical/mirrored item is locked in a certain position and when you try to gently rotate it nothing happens unless you keep moving the mouse and then 'BAMN' the piece rotates 45 degrees. When you try to nudge it back it snaps 45 degrees right back into the same mirrored position it had been in with no hope of using the in between positions. I do not encounter this all the time... But when I do it is just an annoyance because I cannot precisely get what I want... Usually it just forces me to figure out a workaround that usually makes me be more creative with the situation. It may be that this snap cannot be deactivated but just thought I would inquire... Thanks for the advice :)

Spore: General / Any way to turn off 'snap'...?
« on: January 12, 2009, 05:32:04 pm »
I am designing a creature right now and was compelled to switch over to here and ask this question... I am trying to place some ears at the top of my creatures head and just from the location of the ears and other parts being so close to the 'centerline' of the body I cannot precisely move the ears or rotate the other parts because they keep snapping into one piece... It seems to me the snap from symmetrical to one piece happens sooner than it should. It looks to me as if I have more space to do things... And it irritates me. Is there any way to turn this snap off?

Just curious...

I find it pointless to design starships and buildings for my alien races (though I would love to do so). Mainly because the game does not link creations together - especially in the Space Stage... Whoever goes should bring this up. It would be nice for the expansion to have a feature that actually links alien races to specific starships/buildings... So when 'my' content is pollinated onto 'your' machine the space races have all the right ships/vehicles/buildings associated with them.

There's a way to link them together, it's some kind of code you add to the tags so they are in the same theme (if one is used all the others are too). I'll search around for it and post it later if someone else doesn't first.

If you find this I would love to implement it in my creations...

Also... I find that 1 out of every 3 or so races I meet in space have my own spaceship. I have tons of ships in my folder but it keeps choosing my own ship when I ally with the race... I guess I am lending them one of mine!

Spore: General / Re: "Creation Culling" on Sporepedia
« on: December 26, 2008, 12:01:40 am »
Worried about this culling I went to the Spore forums (which is a place I never go) to find the actual original post regarding the culling... Here is is for anyone who is interested;

<<Hi -

We're impressed at the sheer number of incredible creations Spore players are creating and we realize that finding quality content among 50 million creations can be quite daunting. We've also received many requests to remove auto-uploaded creations and to make it easier to find quality content online.

And we know that you want to be kept informed of major changes before they go into effect. So we wanted to give you a heads up about our next major change: we're going to implement a culling process. We hope that you will find that quality creations are easier to find with these changes.

Creations will be culled only if they meet stringent criteria. Only creations that have had very little or no interaction or attention will be eligible. Creations will only be culled from the servers. Nothing will be removed from your hard drive.

Only two kinds of creations will be culled:

--- Auto-uploaded creations that have not been updated in the last 30 days, are not in any Sporecasts, have never been the subject or object of an event, do not have any comments, and were made while using Patch 3.

--- Creations that haven't been updated in 60 days, are not in any Sporecasts, have never been the subject or object of an event, and do not have any comments.

Culling criteria may be adjusted in the future, but we'll make sure to let you know if that occurs.

Q. How can you prevent the creations you like from being culled?
A. Making any update on your creation will ensure it won't get culled for 30 days. Updated means that a creation’s name, body, paint, tags, or description has been updated. Also, If your creation belongs to a Sporecast, it won't be culled.

Q. What can you do if your creation has been culled, but you'd still like it visible on Spore.com?
A. Simply re-upload it from your computer.

Also, no creations will be culled that were authored by players who have logged in to the game or Spore.com site within the last 30 days.

This change will be going into effect next week.

Thanks -

Spore: General / Re: "Creation Culling" on Sporepedia
« on: December 25, 2008, 11:33:14 pm »
Well this blows... I mean seriously. Even though I backup my creations, I use the Sporepedia as a 'safe' for my creatures. While I may have multiple versions of a creature on my computer - the Sporepedia version is my 'official' version. I also want to retain the original birthdays without having to reupload them... I really hope they do not do this. There must be another solution to whatever problem they are trying to fix.

Also... For clarification... What does "no interaction" mean? I honestly think I have some pretty good creations but I feel people really do not get a chance to see them much especially the old stuff I have... When I check my log it seems people have interacted with my new stuff only. I feel if the developers take this action they may remove some diamonds from the mix and/or piss some people off.

It would really help if we could get some REAL voting system going 'in game'. If I encounter a creature while playing that I like I wish I could give it a thumbs up on the fly... I say that I am going to go back and go onto the website and rate them later but I never do. I have said it before a creation parade similar to what the Nintendo Wii does with it's Miis would be ideal for this game and spread the exposure randomly and fairly.

You can download it from here too.

I haven't installed it, I'll wait until I hear from enough people that this patch doesn't cause any strange bugs, like the other patches did.

Was that a pun?  ;)

Thanks!!!

I am basically going back and making simple versions of every one of my creatures as well as creating a tribe, civ and space version of each.

Anyone know if there is a way to link UFOs to space races or buildings to races so when they download into peoples worlds they use the proper vehicles and have the proper buildings? Or is it all randomized?
