Spore: General / Re: a world without herbivores?
« on: July 23, 2006, 10:17:29 pm »
Stop being n00bs the lot of you.

First off, a lot of people will likely make carnivores, but that's why the Devs are already creating creatures to put in the game, so that if there's a lack of herbivores the first people who buy and play the game will be sent herbivores required to maintain an ecosystem.

Secondly, as far as i understand it, if you're a herbivore you can get dna points by eating plants and surviving. Herbivores do have defences: they can bite, or kick, or move in groups. You're not helpless unless you make your creature helpless. Eating opponents eggs is likely only a thing carnivors have to do, and might give a few extra DNA points by not much. And it likely won't unlock new parts, you do that by increasing brain size.

Honestly, think before you post.

Who declared you troll of the day?

Wow good question!  I don't know if the game will be playable at all if you are a herbivore since its a dog eat dog world.  I read in one article that you need to attack another races eggs to get DNA points to be able to upgrade your creature..  or like attack other creatures etc.  Maybe you get DNA points for exploring as well!  For example, the more things you have populating your sporepedia, you'll get certain upgrades unlocked.  It would appear different types of gameplay will unlock different kinds of upgrades..

I think I'd actually like to try the herbivore approach, but they'd have to build some type of self defense system along the way like porcupines... Otherwise, they are so going down as soon as they make it to the space age and have a war-faring civilization breathing down their neck!  :D

Spore: General / Wright called EA aliens :o
« on: July 23, 2006, 05:27:03 pm »
Hehehe!  :D

There is a new article up on MSNBC from a couple days ago:  EA Betting Big on Quirky Spore

My favorite line is where Mr. Wright says that he used to think of EA as aliens... it also goes into how much pressure they are putting on him.. and all the money invested... etc etc.. I thought it was a great read!

whoa, nice domain name

Yeah!! Thats what I'm saying!!  Its pretty obvious its a fansite, EA doesn't have their trademark anywhere!  The guy is sure lucky to have snagged it.  Thats why my question was... how much do you think EA will pay the owner for it?  Do you think EA could sue if they didnt hand over the domain name because of copyright / trademark infringement?  Maybe there's a legal battle going on right now... lol  ohhh man, the things i like to think about.... oh yeah.. I"m a business major.. :P  I think its way interesting.. I only wish I could read the messages between the two, if any, to see what happens with it and how...  like the drama court cases on Tv.. lol

Spore: General / Sporepedia Website

Did anyone else notice that a website is coming up at Sporepedia.com?  The registry says it belongs to some guy in the Netherlands... Do you think its an official site being built for EA?  Or do you think EA will pay this guy for loads of money for the domain name? Hmm!!

I'm glad to hear you had a great time Hydro!  Too bad Will Wright was too busy to answer any of your questions but it is still pretty cool that you got to meet him in person.  There is so much excitement going on right now and everyone wants a little piece of him.  As soon as it all dies down I'm sure he'll be snooping around the forums to do some research on the audience and you may be one of the first to know about a beta or demo!

I can't wait to see your video but I wonder whether there's any more info for us to learn.  It will be sweet to see more creature possibilities however, and I'm sure we're all dying to see a picture of the creature you created!  Awesome pictures of the figurines too!  And way to go on breaking the creature editor!! haha  :D

Spore: General / Re: Warm Welcome for the Newbies
« on: May 11, 2006, 10:33:24 am »
I find its great that you have a warm welcome thread for the noobs but I have two comments...

Under Spore websites, one of the lists... it should link to the spore community fansites thread no?  The list is rather biased.

Also, when I see this thread I think to myself... how warm is the welcome really when noobs who post to the forum rudely get told to read the stickies?  Or are you only accepting Spore obsessed people into your circle?  Usually stickies are general rules of conduct, and you can't really tell from this forum's front page which threads are stickied.. unless you pay careful attention to the date.  Call me noob, but at least I'm not rude.

I guess you figured out by this post that some comments offended me yesterday, and I'm not even all the noob.  I am a fan of freedom of speech but I think some people here have gone over the line of deciding who is free to speak or not.  Thank goodness some of these people aren't moderators because we'd probably only see his/her clique's threads because s/he approves.

OK I will admit it.  I am a Spore noob trying to put together a news fansite for Spore noobs like me.  I posted to the wrong forum.  I should be posting to all other forums that have no idea what Spore is. My bad.  I'll just take my noobie buns outta here. Obviously I'm not hardcore enough to give up all my other projects.

:P

I was trying to be helpful.  Must I apologize for not reading every single thread or having other things going on in my life than waiting for a game thats due in a year for the rest of my days? Seriously, it was an honest mistake.  You don't see me spamming the forum do you?
