Spore: General / Re: Spore.com updated...
« on: November 21, 2008, 06:43:13 am »
Let me know what looks broken  in FF3.  And regarding IE6 - we only support the functionality there - not the aesthetic.  Only a very small percentage of people are using IE6 on Spore.com and it is crap when it comes to stylesheets, so fixing all of those bugs would mean nothing else would ever get done.

That said, if the functionality on IE6 is broken, let us know that too.

thx.

Just checked back in and it looks like the graphical glitches for FF3 have just been fixed! It could've just as easily been that some of the old graphics had been cached in my browser as well...
The issue with IE6 is likely the use of transparent PNGs. It looks a little better than it did last time I checked. As an XP user who is likely never to never use Vista, I'm equally unimpressed with IE7.

Looking good/right in FF is MUCH more important!  ;D

Suggestion for Cell Phase, (since you didn't have any!) If I'm on a planet with red (or green or orange, etc...) oceans at the cell stage, why is the water still blue?

the awesome thing is that the update looks broken in both Firefox 3 and IE6 (in different ways on both).

Spore: General / Re: Starting at a later Stage?
« on: September 19, 2008, 06:39:23 pm »
It's a balance issue, you lose some of the benefits of playing through the earlier stages, but you gain the advantage of being able to make EXACTLY the creature/tribe/civ you want, as opposed to having to survive with the limitation of only using the parts you've unlocked.

I've heard from Will Wright in an interview that if you visit the homeworld of one of your other saved games and blow it up, you will "delete" that saved game. So you are supposed to be able to totally interact with them.

Spore: General / Re: For Caryl: What we DO like about Spore
« on: September 16, 2008, 06:25:41 pm »
This thread is awesome, so let me add my little bit because I whole heartedly agree with all the positive comments above!

I love the Little Things that make me smile, or make my jaw drop open.

I randomly came across a crop circle!

The first time I came across one of my Creature Creator creatures. It was a beautiful moment of revelation... and it did not feel like I was playing a game, it was like seeing the dinosaurs for the first time in Jurrasic Park, I got goosebumps!

I was in the tribe stage, and some of my tribe were off to the beaches fishing, some were gathering eggs from the domesticated animals, one was busy with a hammer repairing one of the huts. A youngling, just hatched from an egg was so happy and excited he was running around in circles faster and faster, like 5 year olds are wont to do. Until finally he stopped, swayed back and forth, before falling over dizzy. I felt like I'd just witnessed the most special thing I'd ever seen. I was watching this tribe live and grow, not just as game pieces or units, but that they had a life!

I want to be able to play in all the stages more. I have one game saved in tribe stage, where they've already allied/beaten all the other tribes, but I so much enjoy just interacting and watching them, that i refuse to move on to civ with them!

I've personally gotten about 15 people to buy the game who'd never heard about it before I started talking about it. And so regardless of whatever stuff is going on commercially, your word of mouth sales are going to go through the roof!

Spore is a masterpiece and a gigantic REVOLUTION in game design. Bravo.

Spore: General / Re: No Point to make Civilization Outfits?
« on: September 15, 2008, 08:22:19 pm »
Hey, if you don't want to dress up your creatures, then your creature belongs to a civilization of nudists... no problem there!  ;D

The only thing I don't like about the tribe & civ dress-up is there aren't enough choices! And WAY too many of the choices are appropriate only for star-trek style humanoid aliens. How about robes? Helmets? Space suits (bubble head-type)? I think "5th element"-type wackiness, or even Star Wars cantina-esque?

And while it's crazy to complain about it, it does kinda bother me that EVERYONE is wearing the same thing. Even in China, people where different colored clothing, etc... maybe that's wanting too much?  ;D

Why not procedural random variations on chosen clothing, even just color variations would give the impression of a cosmopolitan society vs a  society of clones...

I also had lots of problems sharing creatures, adding buddies, or subscribing to sporecasts without the EADM. Spore uses it to manage the up/down transfers with the Spore servers.

Spore: General / Re: Epic Creatures - You share the pictures!
« on: September 13, 2008, 10:02:20 pm »
This is one of my favorite threads! I love all the pics and the stories... especially the one where the epic killed another epic, didn't know that was possible!

So let me share mine...

I was being harassed by an epic, when I moused over the epic, I saw that it did have a health bar, something like 1000 points or something. Shortly afterwards I got promoted into tribe, and all the while trying to survive in the tribe stage, this same 100 foot tall thing kept eating and stepping all over my tribe-mates. So I said "screw it!" and armed all my guys with spears and axes and went on an "epic" hunt. I lost half my tribe in the process, but we finally felled it, and as my tribe were carnivores, we all ate like kings!  ;D

Spore: General / Re: I don't own my creatures from Spore CC in Spore?
« on: September 09, 2008, 06:20:18 pm »
I've just found out why my new creatures don't show up online. It's because it thinks they're Maxis creatures?? Wtf?
I make a new creature, upload it, it says uploaded, but when I check the creature it says no comments allowed for maxis creatures! Eventhough my name is there as the creator. They don't get uploaded to the database eventhough it says they do :(

I've seen this too, especially on release day (for me that was Sunday). It looked to me like it was just heavy traffic on the part of Sporepedia (in regards to uploading your creature), that was being interrupted because it was timing out. It seemed to me like they had that fixed as of Monday, but maybe it's just intermittent. I fixed it just by "sharing" it again. And then the share was set and there were no more problems.

Spore: General / Re: Can't get Tribals to play their instruments (Bug?)
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:49:06 am »
I have a friendly neighboring tribe, and i've equipped some of my guys with instruments.
I send them over with my chief.   In social stance, i click on one of the villagers, and they line up to listen to my music.  They have though balloons of my instrument, but the button for that instrument remains greyed out no matter what.  Eventually the concert is over and they hold up signs rating me at "1".

Okay, it took some figuring out for me, but i eventually arrived at a strategy that worked every time. First, if you have multiple huts for multiple music instruments, divide your group into those instruments. My first tribe was a "religious" tribe, so did most of my tribal wars with music. 1/3 of my tribe had one instrument, 1/3 another, and 1/3 the last. I select the entire tribe to go to the neighbor tribe. In "green" mode (and not read mode), I right click on the CHIEF of the tribe, and then click on one of the instruments to get started. Then as they yell out instruments, you reply with the instrument they call for (and their mapped to keys 1, 2, and 3. Now here's the thing you only get to pick once per time they make a request, no do overs. And its grayed out until they make another.

Spore: General / Re: I don't own my creatures from Spore CC in Spore?
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:38:49 am »
yeah but the problem is that if I do that they will loose all their votes and comments :-\

NOT if you do it this way: Assuming you haven't deleted your creatures from your game yet, you can reclaim your creatures and not lose your comments... From within the game, go to the everything tab, go to the search box search your name, and then only your creatures will show up, including the ones that don't show up in my creations. One at a time, edit those creatures, the smallest edit possible, that will unlock the "save" icon. Save it. Exit. Go back to Sporepedia (in the game), the sporepedia doesn't hold onto your last search (stupid, Maxis should fix this!), so you'll have to do another search for all the creatures with your name, and now you should see two copies of the creature you just edited. Delete the old one, and then share the new one (assuming that Maxis fixed the error that stopped you from being able to share anything as well!) Then the newest version of creature will be the only one in the Sporepedia and the comments should still be there.

On an aside note, I have no problem being compassionate about some of the bugs in the came. If it isn't insanely obvious, we are playing THE most technologically advanced game EVER created. There's bound to be little bumps in the road. The fact that I've seen Caryl on these forums on a daily basis asking questions and getting feedback is an awesome sign these bugs are getting addressed. Good job Maxis!

Spore: General / Re: demo discount?
« on: September 07, 2008, 08:25:33 am »
If there was a discount, it was only offered by your retailer. The $10 was just a way to get the whole Creature Creator with all the parts unlocked. A plus-sized demo, as it were, as opposed to the free one.

Spore: General / Re: CC Problem: Crashes on launch
« on: June 18, 2008, 05:06:44 pm »
I didn't have any problems on my computer, but when installing the Creature Creator on my gf's laptop that only sports the ATI Xpress 200 video chip, it would crash after launch. I had assumed the onboard video just wasn't enough to hack it. Seeing your post, I uninstalled the EA download manager and it launched right up. Thanks for the help!

Calling what you're doing "Reverse Engineering" is a bit of stretch... I'd say you were just poking around.  ::)
