Spore: General / Re: Puzzles in Spore!
« on: July 19, 2008, 08:37:41 am »
I think that the uppermost rock represents the ship, it then apparently flew in and crashed into the cluster of rocks that represents the planet here.

the other two dots and the large round ring possibly represents planets and a sun. dunno, could just check out the vid itself for that.
those are my two cents.

That's what I arrived at as well. It almost hints that the ship veered off course (the curved flight path) and crashed landed. I'm guessing the language is an S.O.S. and if you follow the flight path backwards you will find the home planet of the crashed ship. Maybe a new ally if you rescue their flight crew?

Spore: General / Re: Spore creature tags
« on: June 15, 2008, 10:34:55 am »
It looks like some people are getting wise to putting tags/descriptions in like 'Penis', even without actually designing a phallic-like creature, in order to get their 'hits' up. It would be a shame to have the better creations lost amongst the rest because of their descriptions.

Hits do not matter, it is ratings.

I personally rate someone down if they put in an obvious fishing tag.

Don't worry, the cream will rise to the top!! ;)

I will do the same and I'll be sure to have 'GamingSteve' in my tag when I do finally get my hands on the CC.

I must say some of the best ones so far are from members of this site!! Great work!!

Spore: General / What do you think Spore will 'teach' YOU?
« on: June 08, 2008, 06:17:41 am »
In the 'Science Behind Spore' video Will says "when you walk away from the game, we want people to think about the World they live in a little bit differently as a result of having played the game."

As someone who is making a late career change and going back to school for Biology, hearing Will say this made me think, 'will Spore cause me to think about the World differently?'

I can't say if it would be because of Spore or because of my studies, but I am already starting to look at Life in new ways. I would like to believe that Spore will be an ambassador of sorts for the world of Science, causing people to have a newfound respect for the Life around them.

I'm curious how others may perceive Spore. Is it an educational tool, a life simulator or just a game? What do YOU think it might teach you about the World you live in?

How about a 'meld' feature? You and one other person can combine your creatures to see what new species they would create. (I wouldn't want to code this feature!!)  ???

There are supposed to be around 50 +/- SP levels where you play through to unlock items you can then use in your own levels. We know the Eye camera can be used for background pics and wallpapers. We now have various elements other than just fire (ice, electricity)They have added in switches and what sounds like some kind of 'logic' that can be used for making things more advanced, though I really don't know much about that last part. The switches are exactly like they sound and we already know they have 'bosses', collectible orbs and death. That last part we know they have a requirement of 'so many respawn points per length of level', so death really shouldn't be anything too dire. We now know you can offer up rewards for players that beat your level, complete it in a certain time limit or get a certain score. They made it sound like levels could be made difficult enough that not everyone will be able to complete them all.

It certainly sounds like the SP game will be just as detailed as any normal platformer, but the real longevity will come from the inevitable horde of levels that will be made by the public. All Media Molecule will need to do is keep the tools coming, which they said they plan on doing, so this game should have lots of legs. They have also said they expect it to develop into something more that just a platformer, though they admit they are not sure where demand and the creative public will lead them.

As it stands now, we have a platformer with a lot of potential.

First and foremost LBP is a platformer. Gary's Mod....is it really a game or just an open playground? Not only that but it seems like there is less direction so I would imagine it would be overwhelming compared to a side-scrolling platformer that most gamers have experience with. I personally don't see them as being all that similar aside from being able to 'create'.

This IS the reason I got a PS3. I can play most of the other big games coming out in 08 on the PS3. This will compete with Spore for Game of the Year. How can this game not succeed? Unlimited content through a large 'mod' community and the fact that platformers still sell systems. Just because it doesn't have a gun in it, doesn't mean it won't sell REALLY well. Gamers will buy a PS3 for this game.

Spore: General / Re: What power's your vehicles / spacecraft?
« on: May 06, 2008, 07:01:03 pm »
My (bio)vehicles will contain Chlorophyll which will gather light energy and store it for all its energy uses. It is an extremely complicated process that I won't go into here. Just think of it as a high-tech solar panel.

More delays might mean the only fun part of the game IS the editor and they are trying to make it more than just that.

If the game has been mostly complete per WW, then why would they need another long delay? I fear testers are finding it too simplistic for long-term enjoyment and they want to add some depth to the gameplay. If that is the case, and it is only my guess, then I would support another delay if it gives us a game that is strong for the long-haul. EA knows this is another cash-cow for them, so delays to get it right make financial sense.

Look at when other big EA titles will be released and that is when it won't be launched. I say it will be late Spring or early Summer as it seems EA has a lull of big-name releases during that time. It won't be end of Summer as they have their beloved Madden for 3rd quarter sales along with Warhammer Online. They won't put Spore against any other big EA games.

Spore: General / Re: Editor with the release of the Release Date?
« on: December 22, 2007, 07:21:28 am »
A very basic editor with limited functionality a few weeks before release is what I would expect. They certainly don't want players to be able to build their world BEFORE the game comes out. I can see the thousands of creatures already produced in-house and at gaming conventions being used for testing the range of the tool set and not as much for populating the servers at launch. They will save that for the public to do at launch. They might use a very diverse few to populate the local 'systems', but I can't see them filling in the game world when that is for the player to perform.

In any case, I'll take whatever they want to send our way just to get a feel for this incredible concept. Like the rest of you, I've been impatiently waiting for this far too long. It's finally almost time.
