Title: Sagan 4 - How to Better Evolve your Species
Post by: Hydromancerx on December 13, 2006, 01:50:56 pm
This thread is meant to help out the team better focus on what is needed to more realisticlly evolve your creature. Plz add what you think these guidelines should be.

Here are some ideas.

1. Adaptations should be in reaction to the environment and not planed out ahead of time.

2. One should not plan farther than one generation because things can change dramatically between generations.

3. Species should be both alien/exotic and make sense.

4. The base of the food chain should evolve before the top of the food chain (ex. plants -> herbivores -> carnivores)

5. Become familiar with the species linage because they only have the adaptations previously given to them and not always ones of the Earth animal they resemble.

6. Evolve species into unfilled niches within the biomes.

7. Check the map and biome list to see what creatures live in your creatures biome.

8. Do not evolve too many adaptations within one generation.

um that's all i can think of for now...

9. Give reasons for adaptations (?, this could help cut out all the extra, not needed adaptations...)

(If i wasn't supposed to post in here tell me and i'll delete it)

It's fine. This was more for general ideas we could put together from people who know biology stuff.

Do not shift biomes without a justified reason. Food needs, predators, etc

Do not evolve adaptations that are a leap ahead. ie turn your feet into beaks in one gen (why you would do that is beyond me, but...)

lol that last one cracked me up (the one by Arachoid) Umm creatures must be compatible with their environments.

AN unsaid rule:  Don't be a hypocrit!

If you're going to criticize someone else's work, please do not be guilty of it yourself in the future.

(This wasn't pointed towards anyone in particular, I've just noticed that it seems to be happening)

Plus, I needed this thread to show up in my new replies area.. XD
