Title: All hail the GameBoy!
Post by: Scipion on March 18, 2005, 08:02:39 am
I may be just a bit obsesive but I can honestly say I have known the location of my GameBoy SP since the first day I bought it. I love the thing, I've spent uncountable hours on it. Hehe, I figured this needed posted since this is the portable games forum. Anyone else love the Gameboy?

Sure, I love the GameBoy. I even still have my original one from like 1989 (which used to have problems with the screen losing pixels ... and you had to put it into your refrigerator in order to get the pixels working again!).

But ... once you see the PSP I think the GameBoy and even the DS is going to forever seen as a "children's toy" because the graphic difference is so severe -- the exact same way that people today treat the Xbox and PS2 as the "serious machine" and the GameCube as a "children's toy". But I still love GameBoy and have played thousands of countless hours on that thing.

Is that how you get those pixels back, I've got one missing on my SP right now. Yeah, I've still got my original too, along with a green one i got after it, than a yellow GameBoy Pocket, and a yellow GameBoy Color, a white GBA, a see-through GBA, and my onyx SP.

Hey Steve, did they ever fix that button problem they had with the PSP?

The SP? that was the best protable system!

(I can say that because the DS and PSP havent impressed me much yet)

No. You just have to learn to hit the square button a little more forcefully. Not barely tap it like a three year old child.

I started the handheld systems back when the GBC had just come out.

But my favorite games had come out in the SP times (advance wars and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance)
Those games were great becuase they involved alot of strategy and could keep you bussey on long trips :P

I would think so. ;D I guess we'll find out, but I think that Japan was used as a "test run" for the US as in Japan they are a lot more forgiving of new technology quirks than they are over here (anyone remember the "math error" with the Pentium like 10 years ago?). If something like that happened in the US it would be huge news and even possible lawsuits...

Ah the American legal system! If you don't like something, sue them!

They've already said that they haven't fixed the button problem (if you're talking about the square button being slightly less responsive). They consciously made the design choice because they were running out of space, and they said they'd make the decision again. Its not even really a problem. This topic has already been discussed for the PSP US release. It was even a subject on Penny-Arcade and like nine other gaming webcomics mocking Sony for making an intentional flaw into the system.

It's the best get-rich-quick method around! :P

I still heart the DS more... no matter what you all say... I'll never turn to the dark side! Never!

Spore is going to be a very popular game... so after they put it on store shelves and we all get it we should sue EA and take all of it's profits ;D lol Just a late time joke.

You know, I could argue that the GBA has the best library of games of any system out there right now.

It may be outdated now, what with the DS and PSP, but that's all right. Hey, I'm sure we all still play our favorite games from previous systems, right? That means we can still play the dozens and dozens of good games on the GBA.

Amen.  I once lost my GameBoy SP for about a week, and I honestly went through a period of grieving for it.

Then I found it under my bed.  I WAS SO HAPPY!!!  Metroid Fusion, Pokemon, Final Fantasy Tactis:Advance.  Ahhhhh...  I probably game more on it than I do on my PC or 'Cube.  It's so easy to just pick up, say waiting in line somewhere, play for a couple minutes (DIE, you stupid Zubat!  DIE, DIE, DIE!)  then save and go on.

I usually lie in bed for three hours before I go to sleep, this time is spent with a mix of reading, and playing my SP. That kinda time adds up.

If i had a GameBoy Advance then i would buy Castlevania and play that all the time (awesome game!).  But as of now i am waiting patiently for Spore and playing a bit of Counter Strike Source.

GameBoy?

Yes, I have an old chunky white one, from my primary school years. I have pokemon blue/gold, mission impossable and a whole stack of super mario games. I also have a cord to hook two up at once. I havent touched it in years.

I wonder how much I could sell that baby off for now?

$10..$5...?

I don't mean to bump an old topic but am I the only one who noticed that SP is really DS upside down?

Coincidence?   I think not!
