Title: Steve's request for website content
Post by: Super Famicom on July 21, 2006, 11:28:08 am
Is anyone planning on contributing to the site as Steve asked in the last podcast?

I've sent Steve a review and a feature, will have to wait and see what he makes of it.

I sent him a few small paragraphs with some of my background, but no sample of my work.

I really want to contribute.

I have it all planned out what I will send him when he gets back to me. :)

I would suggest not waiting to hear back from him. I would tell him your interested and submit a sample of your writing like he suggested as soon as possible. You might not hear anything back from him right away as he is really super busy right now. I know a few other people have been interested so I think the response to his request is going to be high.

Cool, good luck!

I've dabbled with my own sites but without a decent audience it's kinda hard to stay motivated to write content...

I would like to contribute a newspost to gamingsteve.com every once in a while but doing it on a regular basis wouldn't work for me so I guess I'm not... :-\

Actually something I suggest would be every once in a while in a podcast Steve ask for a sort of "Conflicting Opinions" type thing. In this people would basically write in on a topic he gives in the podcast. Two well written yet opposing viewpoints would be then put in a news post at a later date.

I think it would be an interesting feature.

At the same time I don't want to drive Steve nuts with work, as sifting through a bunch of email would be kind of hard. Then again he probably already has some system for podcast questions to keep him from going nuts...

anyway to recap:
1.Want To Write articles for gamingsteve.com, just not on a regular basis
2.Conflicting opinions newspost would be fun but don't want to barrage Steve with work.

I think I'm gonna submit some stuff.  Do you think he would accept reviews I wrote on epinions.com?

I wouldn't see why not.

I'm not sure, original and exclusive content may well be preferred.

I don't think it will matter. I think he just wants to read a sample of how you write a review. I would suggest that you submit it exactly like he asked and not send a link to another location.

I sent him 2 samples of articles that I have written earlier for my site and for Newsvine.  I hope to hear from him on if I was picked or not but I would think that he would only contact the people who were picked because of the massive amount of emails he is probably getting.

I just remembered that I should have let him know that I won a contest from another podcast for having the most original idea for a game.

Ok I submitted about 3 epinions reviews that I changed a little bit (2 games and 1 hardware) and 1 review that I didn't write for epinions.  Good luck to everyone ;D

Cool, what's your site?

Its xboxliveaware.com.  It really isn't much of anything.  Just something I do for fun and for some of my friends to look at.

Looks good, what software do you use? It's a bit more advanced than mine!

I've been a listener for quite some time and so the prospect of contributing to the site sounded like a pretty awesome opportunity.  Some of it seems a bit over my head so to speak but overall it'd be cool especially when you know your message probably won't fall of deaf ears. ::)

Anyone heard anything yet?
Title: Re: Steve's request for website content
Post by: ilikesanta on July 28, 2006, 12:18:45 pm
NO... nothing yet. I'm guessing we'll find out by his next podcast and hopefully that will be on Sunday/Monday. It makes me wonder how many people submitted articles. We have the handfull of people who submitted here on this board. There are probally people who might have been to afraid to post here in case they didn't get picked and would have to contine life with all the world knowing that they weren't good enough. Finally there's the people listen to the show and don't even know about the message boards, so who knows how many people actually submitted stuff to him? Then Steve has to read all the entries on top of his already "busy" life. ( I put busy in quotes because he's probally just playing WOW again :P) Or it could be we all suck and he doesn't know how to go on living after reading entry after entry of mutilated grammar and slaughtered spelling. ;D

I kid, but I hate waiting for stuff like this so I start thinking of scenario after scenario on why I haven't heard anything yet. At this point I don't care so much about getting picked or not, not saying that it I wouldn't be happy getting chosen, but just pull that bandaid off already.

I sent him a request too, along with a bit of my background.

We need to remember that Steve is very busy though. He has lots of things going on, so if you haven't heard from him yet, I wouldn't get worried. Even if you don't get picked, you're always free to share your news and thoughts here.

Steve said they are not saying much so he put Spore Talk in mothballs until there is more info.

Also, like Pilot said, send Steve interesting news stories and whatnot. I have had him put some stuff I sent him up like the Speed Demos Archive news post he made a few months ago.

Why not Steve make a "club" of freelance writers, post an idea on the site for what to write about, Steve takes the best of what he recieves. ( Or whoever handed it in first, depending on the need for quality in any certain piece.

If Steve didn't want such "regular" updates, I'd submit. I've written quite a bit in the past for a few gaming sites, and think I'm a pretty good writer...but right now, I could manage only "pretty irregular" updates :( Wish he'd asked 4-5 years ago - stupid "life" is in the way nowadays.

Nope.

Something important must have happened because he has not done any of his stuff.

I am not complaining though. I will wait diligently and patiently.

Yeah, it'll probably take him a few days to sift through all of the emails he's gotten. After all, he did say that he got hundreds.

And those people who submitted articles and such for the site, I haven't written anyone back yet, but will very soon as I have tons and tons of applications to go through. But I'm alive and well, just crazy busy...

No one has.. be patient, it will be soon.  ;)

I am almost a bit disappointed. I can't help but to feel that Steve is looking for an adult, as far as "meeting industry professionals" goes. Don't get me wrong, I love to write about video games, and I would love to write for Gaming Steve, but from the way Steve sounded in his e-mail, it sounds like he is looking for an adult who is trying to break into the industry, and being in high school, that is just something I can't do right now.

I really wish I could contribute to this site somehow, but from what I have seen, I don't think I am the write person that Steve is looking for as far as writing goes.

I thank him for the chance, however. At least I'll still be able to visit the great forum here. :)

I think he just wants a commitment.
its good for us also though, this can go on your resume if you
ever want to work at magazine or something like that

Yes, that is fine.

It just isn't for me at the moment, that is all.

If anyone else can fully commit to this, than good for you. It just isn't an option for me right now.

Yes, right now I am looking for people who are looking to make a serious commitment and who can provide content and insight not found anywhere else on the web. However, that doesn't mean that things will expand and change over time, just right now we need to build a good solid core and then can expand around that. So don't give up hope, things will change over time. And contributing to the forums IS a method of contributing to the site believe it or not.

Ok heres a dumb question for Steve or anyone to anwser, I don't want to get rejected because of this so it says that you tell why you like your 3 favorite games and I was wondering if HL2 and CS source were considered 1 game because its included in there.  I don't want to have it considered as 4 of my favorite games and get rejected because of that >_<
Title: Re: Steve's request for website content

I would say separate because they are completely different games. One being single player the other being multi. If it was Half-life 2 and half-life deathmatch, that might be considered the same game. I don't think Steve would freak out and toss your application if you listed 4 games.

I've decided not to enter anything, I've thought it over and I start my second year soon. I don't want to be distracted from that, and I don't think I would be able to follow up any commitment I made here.

Hmmm, I probably won't send mine in either.  I mean its my senior year of hs!  I have tons of other things to worry about and I've got the app half way done, I still might send it in....
