Title: Great Xbox 360 games.
Post by: The Dead Herring on June 18, 2006, 07:35:56 am
Do any of you have any suggestions for a 360 game that I could get?

They cost about $90 in the UK which is rediculous so I can't afford to buy them often (although the prices are falling gradually).

The games I have now are...

- Perfect Dark Zero
- Oblivion
- Burnout Revenge

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Kameo is a really great platformer, classic Rare stuff.  The game itself isn't very long, but there's a lot to do to unlock all the achievments, and it's really quite hard.  They're almost constantly adding in new downloadable content for it too.  The Joanna Dark costume is really cool.   ;)  A lot of people don't seem to like it, but there's a demo up on the market place so you can at least try.

Condemned is a good horror game, really quite scary and suprising at times.  Project Gotham 3, Dead or Alive 4, Call of Duty, etc.  Chromehounds is out pretty soon too, a mech based squad game that's looking really good. Really, the best thing to do is to go onto the market place and download some demos.

I have about 15 demos on my Hard Drive including the new kameo demo. Honestly I wasn't very impressed with the controls, they just seemed a little clunky and unresponsive. However I really loved the Art and character design.

The Quake 4 multiplayer was really cool, but I'm not sure if I can cope with all that annoying lobby stuff.

My favorite demo by far though is Call Of Duty 2, the control sticks are calibrated perfectly, animations are fantastic, and the framerate was consistently high. I have also played through the level about ten times so I can see some major replay value. What's the multiplayer like? Also the price has dropped to £30.

CoD was fun but I got oblivion right in the middle of playing it so I haven't gotten around to beating it. I've played online and it was alright, but keep in mind that I only played 2 online matches and it should be noted that it's ranked #1 on the top live games on the 360 followed by G.R.A.W.   Look here (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2006/06/16/Top-Live-Games-for-week-of-6_2F00_12.aspx). So it seems to be pretty popular. I  also enjoyed GRAW online.

I completed the Oblivion main quest, I am still playing after 100 hours and I see many more hours at stake.

OH, yeah, about that list. How did Oblivion come third in table even if it doesn't have online play. I guess that must be what people are playing whilst connected to xbox Live.

Yeah they plan on fixng it so it only show online play, but it should be more or less accurate to what's most popular online.

If you are thinking of buying call of duty think about getting it on the PC as it is cheaper and overall a better game. other than that table tennis is great multiplayer but not so great solo play

Get CoD2.  You won't be dissapointed.

What!? No one has mentioned Table Tennis? I've had quite a bit of fun with it so far.
G.R.A.W. is simply a must-buy. I picked up Fight Night Round 3 after playing the demo and haven't been disappointed. King Kong is definitely worth a rental -- it's short and pretty easy to beat (but still really enjoyable), plus it basically amounts to 1000 hassle-free Gamer Points.

Go with Call of Duty 2. It's the only one that I can almost guarantee you'll get something out of, other than say Geometry Wars, which is fantastic. I felt the same way about Kameo to be honest; it's control scheme did absolutely nothing for me but I really wanted to like it. After a while though, I stopped kidding myself and realized it wasn't for me.

As for Table Tennis: I've found that people without any interest in ping-pong typically don't enjoy it. My best friend got it from Gamefly for a rental but didn't enjoy it in the slightest, whereas I practically devoured it, even in single-player. But then I play table tennis on a daily basis, so seeing it that well translated into a videogame was really surprising and fun.

Play Oblivion.  It's the best game you can get... and it never ends for about four months and then keeps on not ending as long as you fork over 2 bucks a month for sidequests.

It was probably my favorite game...maybe for about 200 hours (which is admittedly a lot). But now that I've done all the quests and stuff with a few different characters, I needed a break. I'll probably go back to it sometime, but hearing the same three musical scores really got to me. But seriously, I think those 2$ mods are a bit of a rip off, considering the small amount of content you get with them. I'm just gonna wait for an expansion.

As for new games...F.E.A.R. for the 360 looks pretty good, and so does LEGO Star Wars II, but those aren't out for about 3 or 4 months.

I have already played it through, twice. Well worth the asking price.

I don't have a 360 but I've heard that G.R.A.W. (ghost recon) and Call of Duty 2 are good.

Oblivion
Geometry Wars
Mable Blast Ultra
are all good but i think
Perfected Dark Zero is utter crap.

Perfect Dark Zero gets too much hate, it plays almost exactly like the original Perfect Dark/Goldeneye, just with a slightly updated contro method.  The single player missions all pretty much suck, but so did the original Perfect Darks.  The game does at least have good multiplayer.

Outdated yes, but it certainly doesn't suck.

I agree, it was good for 1995. But shiny walls and online play doesn't bring it into the present day.

PDZ - Online is the only way to play it.  Co-op is fun, it's really the only way you should play the story mode.  Multiplayer is best with Onslaught, Infection or Eradication, the bots now work pretty well in the Dark Ops modes as well.

CoD2 is great single player, and now the online is great now that the lag is fixed. The Sniper rifle is overpowered, though.

GRAW is also great single player, and the multiplayer is awesome too, except for the watered-down graphics, and no "cover" mode.

Battlefield MC is great for multiplayer if you like something along the lines of Big Team Battle in Halo 2.  The physics with vehicles are annoying (especially tanks), but they finally fixed the voice chat.

Hitman Blood Money is also fun, but if you didn't like the previous ones it won't change your mind.

I didn't like the Perfected Dark Zero multi player. I dunno maybe it was the guns, the fact you can't jump, you can't really pick your character, or maybe that I only found one map I liked.

At lest you can have more then one person playing on the same 360

I don't really hate the game, but I don't really like it ether

I want to put in a good word for Dead Rising. Why? Because the mindless slaughter of zombies is fun! Plus this game looks to be over-the-top and wacky. Very much more along the lines of Shaun of the Dead than Dawn of the Dead. I can dig it.

Dead Rising looks like one of those games that will be fun for a week but then you'll get tired of it. Kinda like State of Emergency (ps2).

Still slaughtering thousands of zombies using anything you find does sound like fun.  ;)

The best games availible now, IMO, are Oblivion, CoD2, and maybe Prey soon.  I only have CoD2 but I have Oblivion for my PC and the Prey demo was incredible.  Some other games are pretty good but maybe not worth 90 bucks.  What I'm doing is holding off till the fall to buy any new games.  Gears of War, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Saint's Row, N3, Splinter Cell: DA, Dead Rising, and tons more coming this autumn.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but Saint's Row looks really pretty good.  I'm waiting for the demo to see how it plays though.
Dead Rising does look really good.  Big area, thousands of zombies, and lots and lots of weapons.
And Test Drive is out in September, it has a lot of potiential to be great, but the demo they released played like crap.  If they could fix the handling/phsyics before the game is out then it should be good.

90 bucks!!! were do you live!! were I'm from xbox360 games cost 60 bucks. I must agree that Pre demo was unforgettable, I played throw a condemned demo too and it was crazy good, but i don't know if i could shell out 60, or in your case 90 bucks for it. tomorrow i am picking up Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth II, hopefully that will be a new addition to this list.

PS. do arcade games count for this list?

english prices are comparable to 90 bucks or even higher. So think about how much they are ripping us off.also dont you think prices are becoming a bit too much. people are concentrating on the ps3 price when what they want to report on is the skyrocketing price of games.

i think compotition will lower the price of most games, just not the mega blockbusters like Oblivion or Halo.

I love the idea of Dead Rising, but I do agree with others that it will likely wear thin after a week or so. Now if there were some sort of multiplayer mode where you could work together to try and fend off the zombies using anything at your disposal, that might add some replayability. But it seems like a concept that is short-lived entertainment. And quite honestly, I want more for the money.

Well, the game only actually lasts three hours. It has a point-based system, much like ye olde-school video games. The actual meat and potatoes comes from the replay value. Supposedly, the player can play through any number of times, doing different quests and killing zombies and taking pictures for more points. Each game is never supposed to be the same. That's what I like about this game -quick, easy, and mindless fun.

For a while there Capcom was quickly becoming irrelevant.  But after Resident Evil 4, and the upcoming Dead Rising and Lost Planet, I'm exciting about what they'll do next for the first time since RE2.

yeah I got that one too and I'm having a good time with it. I broke into the top 100 yesterday, but that won't last for long because, I made the mistake of introducing my girlfriend to animal crossing and I'll be lucky to get access to the TV ever again. :( Dead Rising looks like it will offer a lot of fun especially if you take into account the achievements (what a great idea that was on MS part) but yeah I'm getting dead rising on day one.

Hehe. You can even take those little Servbot heads at his feet and go running around popping them onto the heads of zombies. You can take a picture of that for bonus points, then go clean up. Now imagine that, but with traffic cones.

There's actually a light saber in the toy store as well. So your dreams of Mega Man fighting hoards of zombies in the Star Wars universe will finally come true.

Trusty Bell.  I'm usually not big on Japanese RPG's, even the upcoming Blue Dragon and Enchanted Arms look as if they'd bore me to tears.  But I absoloutly love the art style of this game.  It's by the creators of the Gamecube Baiton Kaitos games, I never played the first one, and I don't think the sequel was even released here, but I'm pretty tempted to look into them after hearing about this.

Anyone heard of Overlord?  I think it's coming out in 2007 but it looks very humorous.
