I play grand piano, I started when I was about seven, unless you count fooling around on a toy keyboard when I was little. I learnt mostly by ear, but picked up some basic sheet reading. But, even now, I still have a lot of trouble reading music. I primarily learn by ear and do improvisation. I've been picking up a little bass and guitar, but I'm nowhere near good with those and I'd rather stick with piano for the time being.
Video game stuff that I can play:
To Zanarkand(from sheet music)
Final Fantasy 6 Boss Battle(from sheet music)
Legend of Zelda theme(by ear)
Mario Theme (by ear)
Gilgamesh's Theme (by ear)
Mario Undeground Theme (by ear)
Wind Waker's intro flute music (by ear)
Various underground game themes that you wouldn't know (Hybris, Realms of Kaos ring a bell?)
Um, yeah, that's about it.
-
I used to play the saxaphone, guitar, and the piano, but alas, I stopped playing for no apparent reason. :-X
-
I own a guitar. "Play" would be a rather liberal definition of the word, though I can belt out the basic chords for some tunes, which (as GI Joe says) is half the battle.
-
i used to play piano for like 3 months
-
i play violen for 6 years, bass for 1 year, and piano for 2 years, i can play some of that stuff u listed like mario songs, i can play 3 dif. 1;s, Zelda theme, i can play Kingdon hearts :o and, . . thats it for game music i guessu should learn the chocobo theme from FFVI
-
I've been playing guitar for 14 years and used to play in an amateur punk cover band.
-
I play Guitar(2 years) Banjo (1 year) Ukulele (8 months) Sitar (1 year) and piano (like since i was born)
-
This is my fifth year of playing trombone.
-
I played the clarinet in middle or high school for 2 or 3 years. I always wanted to play the Sax though, since my fingers were too small to be able to cover the holes on the clarinet really effectively, so occasionally i'd play a completely incorrect note during practice, to no fault of my own :-\ (for those who don't know, a saxophone operates on levers, so there aren't any real holes to cover, just buttons to depress).
I still think it'd be fun to pick up a saxophone, but jazz instruments aren't 'cool' anymore, so I occasionally see myself with a bass guitar. ;)
-
I have played the piano, organ and clarinet.
I can play the piano, clarinet, saxophone (all) and theremin.
But...I don't actually own a sax atm and that's what I like playing most. Not that I own a theremin, but it'd be cool too.
-
Ive played the drums for a few months 1-2 (only recently go a kit although ive been wonting to play for 3 years :-\)
-
I use to be in a death/black metal band called 'Op DePop', which is short for Operation De-population. I played the throat - in other words vocalist.
we broke up after the bassist (ben) moved away.
-
the theremin? that's awesome! I'd love to learn to play one of those.
I have been playing piano for about 8 years, I've been playing sax for almost a year now, I've been playing guitar for maybe 3 years, but those years haven't been totally serious (so its like I've only played a year), my brother just got a bass so I'm picking that up, and I used to play trumpet for a couple of years.
-
I’ve played various percussion instruments for 7 years, started off with the snare drum and played the lowest heaviest base drum in High School marching band.
GO BAND NERDS! :D
-
I played the Trumpet for about a year in my jr. high band, then got sick of it and quit... after breaking my arm and getting behind everyone else because I couldn't practice... ;D
-
I played the French Horn in elementary school, and I taught myself a few songs on the guitar. I consider myself a master of thwacking rulers on desks, though. (If you don't know what that is, shame!)
-
I play the violin (8th grade orchestra). We play mostly classic stuff (Overture 1812, Mozart's Serenade, small crap like that) although lately we played Stairway to Heaven (one of the bass players in my class can play guitar) and Pirates of the Carribean music. Could've been the Concert Master, but tuning all the little biatches in my class gets annoying.
-
Baritone B.C. also known as Euphonium :) look it up if you have no clue what I'm talking about. I'm in an eighth grade band and we play a lot of stuff. We did the pirates of the Carribean symphonic suite and I play a little guitar.
-
I play clarinet for like 8 years I think :)
-
I play the drums, i know not the typical geek instrument, but when you think, it is a lot geekier than a guitar, you get to hide at the back behind lotsa stuff!the perfect shy persons instrument!
Been playin for nearly 2 years now btw!
-
I have been playing the Violin since I was 6 (am now 23) but have not played much since high school. I still have my violin in the closet, but I have to much other stuff to do.
-
i play the guitar and have been playin for 2 years now
-
I played bass for 3+ years, but gave up. I now produce and make 'rap' music (for the past couple of years, mostly the last year). Visit deeplee.net (http://deeplee.net) for free MP3s of my stuff. It's getting there. I was thinking about making a track with Zelda:link to the past, the music you hear in the fairy caves... check back I'll post it up there just for fun sometime, if I ever get Reason to work again.
-
deeplee ur music is sweet
-
I've been playing guitar for 2 years. I'm going to take a high school music class next year, is that reccomended?
-
Guitar for about 3 years (bass for 1), Piano for about 5, I sing pretty okay, and am in a Junk band (see my new sig!). We're hoping to go to the Bristol Festival. Those English people amongst you will know what I'm on about. I've played with Jack Harris and Robert Blake.
-
I played Clarinet in the 6th grade. I always wished I could play guitar.
-
I’ve played various percussion instruments for 7 years, started off with the snare drum and played the lowest heaviest base drum in High School marching band.
GO BAND NERDS! :D
LOL!My 1/4 of my school is in band so that's funny to me.
Violin for 1 year.
-
I've played bass for 5 years now, but just in school. At first it was fun, but now in high school it's starting to become more like a chore. Most people in the band now want to become a musician and are really committed, but for myself who just wants to play casually, it's a bit too technical. I'm kind of uncertain wether to continue at the moment...
-
I played alto sax for 4 years, i stopped at the beginning of 9th grade, now my brother plays it
-
I have a violin case, but the instrument in it doesn't play music, ya see? Yeah, yeah, Ya see? :)
-Lego

I play guitar, and have been playing for about 3 years or so.
-

-
I play bass guitar been playing for 5 years. even played a few gigs but thats about it
-
In grade school I played clarinet in the school band for 2 years. In high school I was "strongly encouraged" by mom to take piano lessons. I took about a years worth of lessons. My brother had been playing drums for about 5 years and help me purchase my 1st bass guitar in high school. We formed a band that lasted about a year - in our first gig we placed 2nd out of 8 bands at a "battle of the bands" I've gotta tell ya - there is no kind of rush like the first time you step up in front of a large crowd and play live musics. Later, I bought a guitar but never really had the time to develop much with it. Bass is definitely my favorite instrument and I've got about 3 years of playing without any formal training. Unfortunately I haven't been able to really pick it up for about 10 years now.
My newest "instrument" should be arriving next week as I ordered Guitar Hero for the PS/2 with 2 guitars. It should be fun.
-
I've been playing Piano for about 4 months now, already I'm very good at it. It takes a while to first learn a song, but after 30-60 minutes of practicing I can get a song right. I practice slowly and a few times rather than quickly many times over, because sheet music is so hard to read off the bat. I think I play differently than other people because I 'feel' the music. I can feel the waverings of the sound waves in my inner ear and I use that to time the beat, and eventually, I practice a song without looking at anything. Thinking "Okay, this is a D, then a G, then C.." just messes me up.
In other words, I teach my fingers where the next keys are, then play it practically unconsciously.
-
I have been playing percussion insturments for 10 years now, i.e. since I was 8. Mainly just play drum set. Had a rock band together with my friends for a while, but no longer. I have a Ludwig set with Zildjian cymbals.
-
I've played clarinet for about 6 years...
1st chair in school! not too bad for a sophmore... ;D
though, I think I'm only 1st because I sit closer to the teacher than the other 1st clarinet... :D
-
Ocarina. And for only a year and a half now. Still no good, I can barely do the Temple of Time song.
lol, i still remembered how to call epona after 4 years of not playin the game, but to get back on topic, i've been playin the guitar and the harmonica for about 2 years
-
Hi there,
i playing Keyboard, Guitar and bass and mix all of it with a powerbook.
I also bought a tenor-saxophone but i cant find a teacher around here (i am living in a small town in germany) :(
Also from my last trip to indonesia i brought a chinese instrument with me, called Guzheng. A nice instrument. Its compareable to a zither and has 21 strings (pentatonic) and you can bend them a little bit. Well.. i hope i wil be able to do some practice soon.. but i fear i will just play oblivion :)

A man after my own heart, although I have gone on to do the two companionships after eighth grade.
I started on the Euphonium, but now can play pretty much any brass instrument. I also play a little piano.
EDIT: I have been playing for about, oh, 7 years now.

omg, who cant play smoke on the water, it doesnt even count as a song because how easy it is.
I could write out the tab with my eyes shut.
and the sax is pretty cool, 2 of my good friends play it. well then I moved so i dont really get to hang out with them anymore. they were pretty good, most other band insterments suck though,
-
I have been playing upright piano for ever.
-
I start to play keyboard with 10 years, and I play it usually.
-
I tried learning the guitar once. Like all good guitar players, I downloaded tabs for Stairway to Heaven and then went "wtfff" and gave up. Seems like the intro to Nirvana's "Smells (http://www.villageoffools.com/secret.php)Like Teen Spirit" is a more popular thing to learn these days anyhow.

lolz, n00b
Actually, I'm still having trouble on the solo... :-\
-
I've found a fairly good way of learning the bass; just literally playing through albums. It seems to be working quite well as I up my skill level - start with American Idiot and a few other Greenday albums, and progressing onto Absolution/Black Holes & Revelations, and By The Way/Stadium Arcadium. Not bad considering I've only been playing since Christmas. And of course on the way I've picked up plenty other songs too.
-
Guitar 6 years
Bass 3 years
-
Piano, nine or ten years. I can't remember now, but I started when I was six or seven.

the intro is finger picking and thats why its hard for you. then it switches to a twelve string.
anyways...i just started playing the keyboard, so does anyone know the sheet music for foreplay/longtime by boston. if you have it would you email it to me at twshaffer10@msn.com thank!
-
piano, for about a year, i just play by ear and improvise, im not great, but its fun none the less. to go with the piano, i play keyboard/synth in a jam band, and so far we just write our own stuff.
i also play... scratch that, mess around with trumpet, harmonica and digeridoo (thats right)
