Title: Ticket to Ride
Post by: LadyM on May 17, 2006, 03:45:29 pm
I bought this game based on Steve's recommendation. I have to say it was well worth the purchase. It's very easy to load and play. The game is set up like a board game. Each space on the board is a train car. You draw train cars from the pile to the left and play them on board. You can also draw "tickets" which gives you extra points for completing certain routes. But here is the best part, the multiplayer feature is very easy. Only one person has to own the game.

You sign up your account online and host a game. You can make the game private with a password so only people you know can join. The people who do not own the game can sign up as a guest on the website and play with anyone who has hosted a game. You can have up to four players and robots can fill the extra spots. Therefore, if you own the game, you can host for up to three friends to play with you. You can also build up rankings and karma the more you play. The game does include a chat for internal game play.

The only thing I really don't like is that if you take too long to make a decision, the game will boot you as being gone and a robot will take your place. You can get back into the game but its annoying.  Excellent multiplayer game.. thanks Steve.

I have some free time tonight, I'll go check out. Will you be hosting a server for all the newbies?  :P

I would like to try this out, but I just dropped $50 bucks on a board game that Steve recommended. That price did include two expansion packs for the game so it's not supper crazy.. I hope that it comes on Xbox LIVE.

Alright, out of four, my first game I got third, and my second game I got second place! This is really awsome!

No, you don't need to own the game to play. Just sign up as a guest and you can play online with anyone who is hosting a game. You can play any map that the host has put up there. There are three maps... USA - Europe - Switzerland
progressively they get harder. There is a video on the website that can teach you how to play.

If you have questions, post them and I'll answer. I'll figure out a time that maybe I can host a game for GS members.

1. Dont be a fool, you just end up missing out
2. How the hell does this game look 'kiddy'?

This game is not a kiddy game no matter how it looks. It actually takes some thinking and strategy on where to place your trains before someone else does.

This looks to be quite the interesting game that Steve shined some attention. I think I may be more interested in getting the board game though. Tucking it away in the back of my mind as a future Christmas present idea.

This game is a blast to play, but don't do it while your drunk. My dad jokingly cursed me out when I layed a 6 car route that he was about to claim himself. It tw'as a blast. I managed to convince my HR people at work to hold a "games day" (play games AND we get paid) for employee morale. Definately bringing this one in.

This is the trouble, people assume board games are for kids. Most really aren't, and are probably too difficult for even adults to play.

Wow Daxx was the last to post here. Neat. :(

Found out about an expansion for this game. It covers the British Isles and Pennsylvania, which is neat! Each board adds a new element to the game. The British Isles version adds a technology aspect, probably to reflect the impact the English had on rail and steam technology. And the Pennsylvania board adds a "share" aspect, as in company shares; probably to reflect the wheeling and dealing and "good old days" of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Kinda neat! I used to do a lot of reading about the PRR when I was a kid since their museum is pretty close by.
