Ah the nostalgia for old members. Always fun to see into St. Patrick's days past. This was before I joined, even.
Also, Jayce. Remember Jayce?

Yep.

Jayce.

St. Patrick's this year was weird.  It was a friend's idea to go to this out of the way "Irish pub."  Seemed like a cool place, I'd like to go back sometime on a normal day.  Apparently it's the same band and the same crowd averaging at least 20 years older than our group every year.  It reminded me of what going to see Rocky Horror Picture Show must be like.  The crowd kept shouting random stuff in unison at certain points of the songs  They had a 20 or so minute version of Finnegan's Wake, where between every verse they'd go into something as not Irish as possible.  Purple Rain, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Day-o, the time warp song from Rocky Horror.  My group was just hanging out in the back of the room all confused, while some neckbeards in kilts tried to get the attention of one of the girls.  We bailed pretty soon after that.

Oh the kiltbeard is a rare, advanced form of neckbeard! You should note it in your spotter's guide.

It also gives him a chance to use some of those stamps that are in the back of the box.

We accidentally caught one of them in a group picture, so mission accomplished I guess.

on friday i met some friends and one of them had brought an american guy he knew from university

poor guy was so preemptively apologetic about his irish heritage, haha. i felt pretty bad. mocking americans/canadians for bringing up their heritage has become such a national pastime here that it seems like a lot of people dont actually know why they're mad about it?

then again, some of the guys we were with were doing a sort of guinness drinking competition, and he asked me if that was "normal." So it's hard to feel TOO bad.

It reminded me of what going to see Rocky Horror Picture Show must be like.

People doing coke in the toilets, having sex in the side boxes, overweight women squeezed into corsets, overweight and hairy men in women's underwear, a long list of banned materials like KitKats and toast? Members of staff contributing to their letting go by making out with patrons? The increasing feeling of being the designated driver at a heavily drinking party?

I mean, that's what it was like to work it. Twice in the same year.

My grandpa was adopted so my actual family name is Coughlin so I'm like 50% Irish. But man I completely forgot about this holiday.

Also yeah what is the Rocky Horror hype?? Never been to a showing but damn it sounds insane

Heavy drinking, men in skirts, badly faked accents, inside joke shouting, and I don't know what was going on in the back.  Not saying it was the same as Rocky Horror since I've never been to one, but it vaguely reminded me of my impressions of it, yeah.
