Title: overkill?
Post by: DevilMachine on March 31, 2005, 02:08:33 am
wow, spore really does sound like a great game!
BUT
dont you think you are building up to much anticaption with this hugely active forum devoted to the game?

sorry if i dont fully understand how great this game will be, im sure it will be fantastic, and will probably pick up a copy myself.

If we didn't have this forum, we would just talk about it somewhere else - every game that people look forward to will have a high anticipation, especially a project such as Spore.

It's true that Hype can really kill the enjoyment on some things but what's been awesome about this site is how it started as all about Spore but is turning into a nice discussion area for all kinds of games and other media.  If all we that went on was greater and wilder predictions on the awesomeness of Spore, then yes, I'd be a little worried.  I trust that we are somewhat realistic (I assume against my better judgement and knowledge of myself) and know that building something up with just the fraction of knowledge we have is dangerous.  Now, all rationality aside, this game looks freaking awesome and I'm going to hype the crap out of it if I'm not careful (which I'm not) so for now, I'm going to enjoy having a place to hop around madly in anticipation with a group of likeminded individuals.  -leeman

I followed Empire Earth 1 from the ground up and thw thing that ruined that was Sierra's increddible skills with its customers(yeah right...).

I've followed many other from the ground up and never got overkilled on any.
Someone was talking about this a week ago.

The anticipation is what makes it more exciting.

I agree. I wouldn't care if it only had half the features of what they say.

hype can work both ways.
it can make a below average game the biggest piece of crap ever in the eyes of its players, and it can make a good game a true diamond.

interesting results occur when it is an average game only.
then the comm will be split in half!  ;D

cough cough... remember fable?

But laso consider grand theft auto san andreas.

The first one didn't come near the hyp the second one delivered.
So theres evidence both ways.

I think Fable's a little different, because Molyneux was making bold promises without actually showing them off. Even though what was shown of Spore at GDC could've been a total fabrication, I don't think that's Will's style. :P

As for overkill I'm not too worried about it. There seems to be an intelligent group of posters here, and I think everyone here can keep speculation vs. confirmed features/facts separate entities.

Now, as for the visitors and infrequent posters: Well, they're on their own. ;D

fable can't be compared to how much that this game is in it(the demo alone had an entire galaxy working) from what i have heard and seen this game is going to be worth getting excited about

by the way, when you download creatures that look like the starcraft's zerglings, its me!!!!

I must say that this is one of the best times in a game cycle, when you haven't played it. You can't be dissapointed, and despite all common sense, I find the waiting quite fun. During the 1.5 years I was waiting for Half-Life 2, I had a group to speculate and mess around with, and that time was actually almost as fun as playing the game itself.

yeah. There's no way I can dissapointed with this game. What was shown in the demo ALONE is enough to satisfy me.

I haven't been following the game that closely but I can't see the game failing to live up to my expectation. If it does I'll eat my game disk  ;)

But then you die?

This thread proves that no one ever reads the last reply on a page. And it was in BIG BOLD letters.
