Title: The Steam Store!
Post by: eropS on May 17, 2017, 10:00:19 am
Steam's a place to buy games, what have you bought recently and do you enjoy it? Etc

Lately I've been doing research on the way Steam treats some of its customers, and on digital ownership in general. And I have to say, I do not like the idea of digital ownership unless I can download what I bought and physically store it. But where else am I going to get PC games? GOG?

Yeah that's been in a he back of my mind for quite some time

I mean, it sure doesn't seem like the digital is going to leave or that the physical media will come back so I'm always supportive of those who want to offer more stores.

I'm sure Amazon/twitch will get in on that game, gog, humble store, even Origin and uplay,  I think the competition is there to where it's not something to truly worry about unless we see consolidation in the future as the larger ones push their weight

I guess I'm just gonna cling to physical copies of stuff until I die. I just don't like the idea of paying full price to rent something indefinitely. If I wanna play Dragon Quest on the NES I always can no matter where I live or what NES or NES ripoff console I have until the hardware itself breaks down, and even then I could make a backup of it with the right hardware. But if I get a new computer, or move to somewhere with (hypothetically) no internet, I can't take any of my games with me. I also can't choose to play them without installing and going through Steam.

Just seems like a raw deal. I guess the fact that I get most of them on sale makes them worth the cheap price, but still, it sucks not owning something you spent money on.

I just don't care anymore so I spend money on dumb entertainment garbage.
But usually after I'm really bored because it feels like I have nothing to do. :u

oh that cuts deep man.

I can get behind that, but I mean you gotta be willing to deal with the inconvenience for your decision I suppose

But really, The Surge. This game is fun as ****. It's got nice, meaty, weighty, deadly combat, and a great premise. The near future sci fi theme is very unnerving and it hits relevant notes. A bit ham handed compared to DS but better for it given the setting/context this time.

I love that you literally deck yourself out with **** you can rip off other mobs. You like that helmet? Knock his head off and take it. Like that Leg mech ? Chop the leg and take it. Has a crafting system that works for what it's going for. Very tight when it comes to the combat/loot loop.

Not too much on the stats front, but good

Huh. Honestly, if given the option for physicality of all of my games or have my games all be on Steam, I'd personally definitely choose the latter. Not having to store and sort all of that is a big thing for me. I do still have the good Gamecube games- Kirby Air Ride, Thousand Year Door, I think Pikmin 2 is somewhere collecting dust- and a Wii and that's really all I need physically.

The Surge looks cool! I just started Demon's Souls, cause I want to get into the Souls series. Maybe I'll check this out after I finish that :)

Rys, I get that - some people view physically owning things as unnecessary burden, but man there's something satisfying about tactile media.

Yeah, so The surge

Another plus is this level design. If you thought it was cool in Dark Souls, this takes the cube maze shell game and turns it up to eleven! It's crazy how interconnected and linked they've managed to make it so far, I'm legit impressed

Sci-fi souls sounds like a really cool idea :) is this an indie game or are there gonna be physical copies for console or whatever too? Related to the ownership thing lmao

It's B tier studio in the up and up seemingly if this game is any indicator so I'm not sure if it will be physical. Can you bug paradox games in stores?

No you can't I don't think, but I still want to get them! God digital ownership problems are a bummer.

I mean whatever I guess. Everything's on sale constantly so if you're paying to rent it, you're not paying much.

Anyone have any game recommendations during the steam sale?  Especially anything under $5?

Tales of Maj'Eyal is a pretty okay roguelike. I don't usually like them but it's like 2.50 or something.

Hey so I tried out the demo for Prey and thought it was great

Anyone else played the full game?
Title: Re: The Steam Store!
Post by: Celdur on August 17, 2017, 12:02:54 pm
I have, it's good.
It's not really a shooter though, if thats what you're looking for.
It's a lot more like system shock, specifically 2.
Lots of exploration and fights are more resource puzzles than anything.

Definitely feels like they copied System Shock 2,rather too blatantly,Psi hypos?Weapon Repair kits?Tape recordings of survivers?

All it needs are the ghosts

I just finished the Prey demo... Well, I can't say I'm carving for more... Although the story was interesting, I was looking for more fps-action than reading through stuff (never played System Shock 2).

I would recommend playing System shock 2 then! It's  little dated graphics wise and the interface is clunky, but on the whole its a decent FPS

Also,welcome to the forums

So a ninja flavored version of classic Doom?  That's cool.
