Title: Rainbow 6 Siege
Post by: Celdur on January 18, 2017, 02:21:10 pm
So this game has very little to do with rainbow six.
And it's ubisoft, with Uplay.

I dunno why I open with that when I want more people to play with.
But honestly, despite those downsides this has to be the best shooter I've played in a long time, if not ever.
Overwatch didn't really do it for me, but this game really covers a ton of new ground.

It's a game mostly about information. You die quickly, and most walls and obstacles can be blown up or shot through at any minute, so information is key.
I can't really describe how tacticool this game gets, it's a multiplayer game where spending a lot of time looking at cameras is actually a good idea.
And blowing **** up is really satisfying too, as are the guns.

If you're interested, I'd suggest waiting for a sale, they are usually pretty generous, and most often come with a free weekend too.
I'd love to have more folks around, because this game is all about communication. I do pretty well with randos but it really doesn't compare to having friends on your team.
And the only people I can play with are 9 hours behind me in time zones.

TL;DR: Best fps in a long while, pushes genre forward in a real way, blow things up too.

Here's some videos that show things.

Yeah, I used to play with Celdur and Wiz a bit. And one other guy but I can't remember. :u
It's fun enough playing online against other teams. A bit hard but there are certain things you definitely should not do that you may have learned in other games or shooters, and learning through those challenges can be pretty fun.
I enjoyed playing a few friendly private matches with these guys too. Still intense as hell, tying my stomach up in knots.

I think I'd play better now having seen a lot more gameplay and I'd love to join in but I can't handle it right now.
If you've ever seen this game and been kinda on the fence try to pick it up sometime. They've done a couple of free weekends too I think.

So this is getting a free weekend this week.
I think it starts thursday but I could be wrong on that.

Give it a go, you will be surprised how good this game is.
Hard to get into though, maybe we can play together, just ask me on steam.

Or we could play co-op single player or play custom scenarios on SWAT 4.

Why not both.
It's free

Because I don't give two ****s about Rainbow Six: Siege. I wanted a new SWAT game, not a new action-SWAT game. :U

So yeah... maybe I'll join you. :3

So if I want to get into this...what's with all the DLC? Is any of it highly recommended or is it all pretty much optional stuff?

all the dlc is obtainable with ingame currency, so you don't need to buy anything.
also all the map dlc is free.

edit: all the **** listed in the steam store is just cosmetic ****

Free weekend is happening now, but you have to start the game via uplay to gain access. Am downloading now. Game is half off, as well.

But you have to use uPlay. :(

Speaking of, I got downvoted to hell for complaining about DRM on reddit the other day. I guess times have changed or are changing? Gamers really are becoming pathetic blobs.

They are. I've seen several times now any discussion on DRM is terrible as ever. The people against it have no idea what they're talking about, why it's bad, why it's unnecessary, or its history.
The people on the other side almost seem to take the opposite position out of spite. There is absolutely zero reason to defend DRM but these absolute morons can and do so with ease because their opponents are morons spouting "hey drm is bad mkay".

Either way there are never any citations or common ground met. It's just a bunch of pointless bitching that goes nowhere.
Saw it again when I got Berseria. Some kerfluffle about Denuvo. I'd rather it not be there, as would many others who are concerned about the future of their purchase, but I guess just don't mention that to anybody anymore because you'll just be called a whiner.

That's exactly it. It was a discussion Denuvo, and I said flat out I haven't bought and won't buy any of the (sometimes great) games on the list of software that uses that DRM. It sucks, but there's enough variety to be picky.

See, and I told them about StarForce. Remember StarForce? I actually had an external DVD drive brick because of that garbage DRM. These kiddos don't understand at all.

Yeah, and the best part is that it never works and never will.
Denuvo is being cracked faster and faster recently.

I have to ask though, because I haven't looked into it myself. What is so bad about denuvo? other than that it's drm that is.
How does it stand out for being especially terrible compared to other drm? Does it have always online **** going on?

It depends on the implementation I think, whatever the publisher wants.
So in many cases I've seen it's completely unintrusive though I couldn't say for sure since nobody has any actual information.

But yeah, that stuff gets cracked in days. It's so pointless.

What it comes down to is that people are still fighting to always have access to the game they purchased but the lines have been blurring more and more over the years.
DRM is the least of their worries. Digital distribution itself is far more significant.

Minor aside: this is yet another reason why DRM sucks.

We should be talking about the game. :|

It's available on steam now, as well. Though you'd need uplay in addition to steam.

Fun game, overall. I think I might pick it up at some point during this sale.
