best trailer is best

I'm getting it for PC but I'm posting about it here instead.
So yeah, I'm super hype for this thing. It releases on September 1st on PS3/4, Xbox 360/One, and PC (Steam, possibly others).
Celdur and I might hang out on chat and play it at the same time like I've done in the past with Oblivion and Skyrim. So much fun. :0

For those not in the know the game does feature a couple of multiplayer components. Apart from singleplayer's Mother Base there is also a Forward Operating Base that you can customize and use to launch invasions against other player's bases to steal resources and crew. If you are invaded you are free to retaliate. Your friends can retaliate on your behalf and I'm pretty sure they can defend your base as well if you're unavailable but I might be mistaken. You can also visit friend's bases and screw around.

Here are some of the more recent videos. We won't be getting too many more big reveals as we get closer to release.
They've actually been very careful and mum about plot details and have only ever shown off one mission done in a variety of ways.

I'm typically pretty **** at these games to be honest but it doesn't matter since I just like to screw around. Now that it's got an open-world thing going for it I'm pretty stoked to roam and cause mischief.

I really thought this game came out a few months ago.

Your thinking of ground zeros

Yeah, that whole thing was kind of a marketing nightmare. It confused way more people than it should have.
To this day people still bitch about it like "i shouldnt have to pay for a demo hurrr".

I thought "ground zeroes" was a meme. That's the actual name of the game. @_@

Was it any good?

It was like one mission or something. Kojima is a latter day P.T. Barnum.

It had a short main mission, about an hour, and then a bunch of side missions on the same map like destroying anti-air emplacements, rescuing POWs, assassinating some dudes, and some other really bizarre stuff later on like... running around as Raiden shooting alien body snatchers or something.
What floored me about Ground Zeroes was how good it looked while running like a dream. I thought I'd have the usual framerate-drop choppy crap all over the place while I just suffered through it like I have with so many other games but nope.
Gameplay-wise it was pretty fun but it definitely left you wanting more which I think was the idea. Very tight unfrustrating controls.

I thought I'd include this since I didn't talk much about it before-- they've been boasting the size of their open world for quite some time now. They seem rather proud of how they've arranged the game this time.
Here's an overlay of the various games and their maps compared to the size of Phantom Pain's Afghanistan region, which is one of three of the main maps you can explore. One of the others is African jungle and I'm not sure about the third.. I've either forgotten or they haven't said anything.
If you look at Ground Zeroes' map there you can see that there may be several more camps or bases about that size throughout each region.

I enjoy exploring and finding or running into surprises. :0

Also we recently got some cross platform images comparing the graphical quality. Gotta say that PC looks the best here, not that I care a ton personally.
I'm more a fan of stability than anything else.

A bit of gameplay, nothing major or spoilery. Just a bit to whet your appetite or whatever.

So... is FOB pay2win?
Title: Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Post by: Celdur on August 25, 2015, 09:08:53 am
Short answer is we don't know.

The way it works from what I understand is that if you want to make an FOB you have to buy a spot in the ocean for it.
To buy that you need "MB coins" which can be bought with real life currency.
To actually develop the FOB and make it worth **** is all ingame resources that can't be bought as far as we know.
MB coins can be obtained through ingame means, but no one knows how grindy it will be.
FOB is supposed to be part of this large mmo economy struggle or something.
So on the larger scale someone could buy the max amount of FOBs a player can have and get a headstart on that.
But on the smaller scale, it seems like everyone has to actually play the game to get the right soldiers and equipment to make the FOB any good.
So unless they add in ways to buy ingame resources and soldiers with real life money, you can buy a ton of land for FOBs, and then have 3 FOBs to defend without anything on them.

Here's hoping that that's the case, but who knows with konami.

Quiet's design makes me kind of uncomfortable. I mean, I like boobs and butt and whatnot as much as the next guy, but it just makes me uncomfortable man. I know there's magic plot reasons for it but even within those reasons, something like a sports bra and very short shorts (and like, military themed or whatever) would've worked fine. I know Metal Gear is a silly series to begin with, I know about naked Raiden and Big Boss's Beach Blast Outfit and Kaz being essentially naked and all that.

I'm not saying it's like, a huge moral injustice that Quiet constantly has her tits out and ripped stockings and stuff, even that's not too bad. And I know the shower scene thing is optional and if you don't build up a good relationship she doesn't do the whole "look at my ass" thing in the helicopter.

I dunno man it just makes me feel really skeevy and I don't wanna feel skeevy when I'm playing a video game. I wanna have fun.

Anyway I'm sure mods will come out so whatever. But yeah. Makes me feel skeevy. Kinda dislike it, but understand why it's there and am not incredibly butthurt about it.

lol

It's tits, it's okay. There's more to her than just that so you shouldn't get too hung up on it. Hideous Kojima made the game he wanted to make. Whatevs.
Title: Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Well he's Japanese so he's definitely skeevy, and also a bit racist.

Unlike us roundeyes, all Japanese people are inherently racist.

Title: Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Post by: Slinky on September 15, 2015, 11:01:54 am
Absolutely.

I know it's just tits but I don't know. If I wanted to see tits I would go see tits and when I want to play vidya I'd go play vidya. I dunno bleh. Kojima created that design so he could see more tits and conventions and I mean that's pretty clever so I gotta give that one to him, that's smart.

I take back the GOTY.

This game is still fun and I put a lot of hours into it, but it kinda falls apart later on.
I mean, its literally unfinished, an entire chapter is missing.
And as you unlock more gear, and as you get to know the enemy AI, it becomes easier and easier to exploit them, and it all becomes really repetitive.
Oh well, I had a great time with it.

Also, FOBs could have been so much more.

My goty goes to undertale now, **** it.

celdur no

But yeah, I get that. I've not been spoiled yet/haven't beaten it so I dunno what happens or doesn't happen yet. But I've gleaned enough information to understand that it's incomplete.
Such a shame. You must really be able to tell around the time they pulled the plug on the studio.

Nice ****ing job. Absolute shame.

I've heard it's actually pretty uniquely deep in terms of what can be accomplished and how in the open world. The Walkman speaker upgrade combined with the poop video in the porta potty trick sounds like one hell of a mechanic tbh

Normally you can hide in a portapotty but if you stick around too long you may find a guard wandering over to use it and discovering you.
Buuuuut if you put your cassette player on speaker and blast a cassette you find.. at some point.. of someone blasting diarrhea they'll just back off and let whoever they think is in there have their moment.

Pretty brill. Never done it though.

Yeah, thats more of an easter egg if anything.
There is also a tape you can find of just a guy shouting "ENEMY DOWN"
And if you play that during combat phase everyone will just repeatedly shout enemy down and go back to their posts.
That one is really abusable.

To be fair, that is because Bethesda said "Ok wow that was a mistake" and pulled a complete 180 on this sort of thing, and then released Shivering Isles, which is often regarded as one of the best pieces of DLC ever produced.  They have since not made that same mistake again.

That said, I actually don't have much of an issue with this and was mostly looking for an opportunity to make a joke.  Aesthetic DLCs are just a part of the industry nowadays, and so long as it's done in moderation there's nothing wrong with it.
