Title: Monster Hunter 4 U
Post by: Celdur on January 22, 2015, 10:41:30 am
So this is coming out soon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50GIgHIQPyU

Not only does this game come with 2 new weapon types, the climbing mechanic, and the most content in any monster hunter yet(even more than freedom unite).
It's also reportedly the most accessible Monhun made so far, seeing as they did away with most of the awful slow tutorial that turned off so many people.
So for any newcomers this might be the best place to start.

And the controls and camera controls are now much smoother as well (though its still on the 3ds so a circle pad pro is advised).
Oh and it does have online, so anyone getting this can hunt together.
I've been playing the demo for a while now and its pretty great.

So I should wait to get this on Wii U, and never play that copy of 3 super extra edition on Wii U.

This won't be on the Wii U.
Capcom has said as much. Like not even "we don't have any info on that right now", just straight up no.
But who knows with Capcom.

3u is still very good, it just has a really slow start which isn't too great for newcommers. Also the underwater combat isn't as great as it should have been.
And when 4u comes out there really isn't much of a reason to go back anymore. It's just much more polished and has way more stuff going on.

But U is in the title. :\?

U stands for ultimate.
Monster hunter 4 was only released in japan, then they made a sort of expansion version called 4g (they do this with pretty much all monster hunter games).
And the western version is called 4 ultimate, for some reason. I think it also has more content than 4g.

This makes much more sense.

I will check it out. Still working out whether or not to get a new 3DS. So far leaning toward no.

I don't understand why people enjoy Monster Hunter.

I don't understand why people enjoy Monster Hunter.

You hunt down giant boss monsters and beat the **** out of them, all to satisfy an endless urge of progression through new giant weapons and armor.
Whats not to understand?

Post by: Gauphastus on January 23, 2015, 06:12:34 am
Yeah, I dig the slow progression and exploration and stuff. What I don't like is getting crushed by monsters I have to fight to progress, despite my best efforts.
Then again I mostly only ever played solo and that's lonely and tedious. I wanna team up on stuff.
I played Tri multiplayer briefly and god damn was that service spottier than holy ****.

I like the slow progression but I do not like the combat system. ARPG is no good. :(

Well I played MH3 ultimate on 3DS, maybe I was just bugged by the small screen and stuff. It felt a little tedious but it's entirely possible I just didn't give it the time of day.

Probably. Like I said these games have been kinda off putting for newcommers in the past.
Mostly because of a really boring long intro.

I'm not really a fan of this guy, but he made a 3 part series to help people get past that hurdle:

And its pretty good.

I'm a total noobtart so  I'll watch this as well.
I just wish I could remember what I accomplished in the previous games. I barely remember the first one, and Tri is all a big hazy mess of misremembered crap I probably watched on youtube.

EDIT: Haha, I guess I'm not as much of a noob as I thought. I seem to know all of this already.

I ain't got no demo code so I guess I have to wait until the game actually comes out to play the demo.

Strange way of doing things.

Hey it's okay.

I'm one of Nintendo's best most loyal and I've been passed over for just about everything ever. And I'm glad they are closing Club Nintendo because scalpers kept taking all the best things before anyone else could. That's why it shut down, people were taking advantage of it and gaming the system and they didn't want to keep footing that bill.

Yeah, the demo codes they send out are random, kinda bull**** if you ask me.
People say its a marketing strategy but I don't really see how.

Managed to grab one after like 10 minutes of google searching though.

Had the wii U game and I never finished the tutorial but did enjoy the main game from demo I don't know if I ever will get this it would have to be portable although I have a 2DS so circle pro won't fit on it.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter 4 U
Post by: Celdur on January 25, 2015, 05:32:48 am
Honestly I've never used a circle pad. The game lets you have a dpad on the touch screen, and you can squish it all the way against the right side.
It's pretty much the same as having another analog stick. That plus L-targeting makes things pretty easy.

Got the demo, finally. I wasn't into it much at first but then I tried the dual blades.

Never picked up on dual swords. They look fun though, especially with the new additions.
My favorites are funlance, switchaxe and hammer. Gonna try hunting horn now that I can play with other people.

Is Jarad any good?

I hated him at ScrewAttack but I'm not sure if it's because of him being a faggot, or because ScrewAttack.

He's kind of a faggot, but he's one of the few reviewer youtube people that has a real love for monster hunter, so he has good content for that.

Okay, I can respect that.

Funny how it's hard to find game reviewers that you can tell really love games. :|

Never watched ScrewAttack, but based on the things you guys hate, it's some kind of Buzzfeed for videogames, isn't it?

Expeditions are nuts.

Fight velocidrome and then take on congalala but tetsucabra busts in like the kool-aid man and it all turns into a cluster**** in the corner.

What a magical experience.

Dung bombs help.
I just wish expeditions weren't linear. Oh well.

Also the music is amazing

Been watching Celdur play this for the last few days straight via my friend list on the 3DS. :D

Sorry for asking again, this is ARPG, right? Not turn-based?

It's hardly a RPG though, I wouldn't really call it that.
And yeah, over 50 hours already. Send help.

Oh man I know the other day I was fighting a bunch of Snarflards and didn't see a Glimglop sneaking up on me so I ended up having to just let a golden Bongdong go. Tragic.

So I've spend 170 hours hunting glibglargs and bongdongs.

But I did the super challenge to unlock the rainbow paint that lets me look like a tremendous flaming fruitcake, so it's okay.
