Title: 'One Drawing A Day' Challenge #6 ("NOBODY ASKED FOR THIS" edition)
Post by: sgore on February 25, 2014, 02:26:44 pm
So, Gauph is a dumbbutt who up and and abandoned us for DeviantArt close to a year and half ago now.
And we miss him dearly.

There hasn't been a daily drawing challenge on this site in years and that will not do.

Others have taken up the torch in the past, (others being Gec,) but nobody seems to have initiated one in quite a while.
And it's about time we had one again.

I didn't participate in any of the original challenges, and I regret that immensely. Also, I'm not nearly as good at this as other people who have participated, and I regret that as well.

BUT THIS IS WHY WE PRACTICE THINGS, CORRECT?! YES?! TO IMPROVE?!

So join me on this journey. This journey of practice.

We'll go with the classic rules for the sake of simplicity:

Welcome to the very first 'One Drawing A Day' Challenge.

What we want out of you is just one drawing each day for one month.

Post whatever you can come up with. That's your doodles, paintings, sketches. Whether you're using a mouse in paint, a pen tablet with photoshop, or a pencil-paper-scanner scheme. It's all good.

Pretty much the only rule is that your drawing has to have been created recently for the challenge itself. So no old stuff.

ADDENDUM: It'd be a good idea not to go nuts with the file size either. If you can't make it much smaller or sacrifice some of the image quality, post a thumbnail and link somewhere offsite for the full image.

In one month (thirty days after the challenge begins) we will count up everyone's stuff.
Those who have completed the challenge will receive a badge they can show off in their signature.

This is for practice and experience too. That's invaluable, and it goes a long way.
Experiment, challenge yourself to draw something out of your league, entertain the forum with your artistic wit.

Try not to fall too far behind. If you think you'll have problems keeping up, just try to give yourself five minutes out of the day to draw something, anything.
You may be allowed to catch up if you miss a day or two, but don't disappear for too long.

Please try to enter by at least the first week. Those that do join in a little late should post several drawings to catch yourself up to everyone else, one for each day you missed.

We aim to keep the challenges rolling. When this one ends, the next one starts up.
We might have a theme in one of the later months, possibly. We'll see how it all goes.

No sign-up necessary. Start whenever you're ready.
So get cracking, people!

EDIT: Credits to Flisch for the idea, conferring with GD and myself to come up with a solid method of bringing it to you guys.
I'm just the topic creator guy.  :-*

We'll officially start on February 26th, 2014 and go through till March 27th, 2014 (30 days, 30 drawings.)

In the meantime, here is a terrible drawing I did today of a stereo.

I love it more than my potential future grandchildren.

Oh hey look I drew a thing.

What is this thing, you might ask? Not really sure, but I drew it and it is drawn and here we are.
I expect to draw better things as time goes on.

Today's drawing is Fat Arms Spock:

Why?

I was in a rush and also I need to practice arms.

But also because fat arms Spock is the greatest character and I hope we can all appreciate his many future appearances.

He's getting his own 13 episode run on AMC and there's nothing you can do about it.

Okay, I've been rethinking Fat Arms Spock, and I recognize where the complaints are coming from, and I believe I've come up with a solution that should please everyone.

Fat Arms Star Trek will be the most successful reboot of the franchise in history and nobody can stop me.

I counter your Star Trek with Doctor Who.

I know the perspective is off but UGH I DON'T CARE.

Looks like I'm falling behind. Should I add another drawing to make up for the ones I've missed?

Alternatively, why don't you stay and contribute some drawings!  :D

I'm legitimately okay with people joining in whenever they want. The more people drawing the merrier!

And Slinky, to answer your question, you're welcome to do whatever you feel comfortable with. If you want to sneak in a bonus drawing at some point, I certainly wouldn't be against it!

Also Gec is here! Yay!

Didn't have time to get to my tablet today, but I sketched an attempt at a self-portrait when I had the chance:

Also everyone who is posting and not drawing things, you should totally be posting and drawing things.

Two drawings today because I missed one yesterday because I work seven days a week now and am bad at time management.

I decided to play around with different styles a bit.
The first is a sort of okay drawing of some guy:

The second is a terribly messy drawing of a hallway:

Yay drawings, everyone keep them coming! I love looking at all your stuff!

But yeah, let me know. Might even be stuff you've already sorta started to figure out.

Here's my daily draw. I did it two hours ago. Got started but I had to go shopping and now I'm le tired so it's not le finished.

Literally any advice in that area would be appreciated and well received. Drawing full figures that actually look...presentable (from arms to hands to legs) is probably one of the most discouraging things about drawing for me, despite the fact I do enjoy it.

You've always seemed to be quite good at it!

Or don't give up and just take five minutes to draw circles with ridiculous faces on them.
Draw a page that's just a pattern of interconnected wavy lines.
Draw some wobbly rectangles with swords through them.

It can be a bit hard to come up with stuff sometimes, or maybe you're the type who has so many ideas that you can't seem to pick anything. Either way all it comes down to is starting.
If you don't know where to start then just start anywhere. Put the pencil to paper and screw the consequences.
It doesn't matter if the crap makes any sense or if anyone wanted it. Just make a thing.

EDIT: Here we goo.

Anyway, I drew a not particularly well done guy.

I drew him regardless, and I am happy I did so, because I haven't been doing full figures so much, and I really should if I want to improve.

And I do want to improve.

And his name is Theodore.

I enjoy 'em both!
The top looks a bit like a pokemon character, which is neat.

I made mine a comic.

Indeed! It's quite lovely, in fact.

Anyway, here's something late, smaller, and not nearly as good:

Drawing my dining room in the dark is rather fun though.

That's pretty swell. The black border made me think you should draw up some fancy frame as if it were a painting on a wall.

I wonder if Gec knows what I mean but there was this wicked tutorial I found (and then promptly lost) on how to plan out rooms before drawing everything in. You do a top-down view of the layout of the room with all the major furniture and stuff, and then you enlarge and skew the image to use as the floor. Then you start drawing the furniture and doors and crap.
It was a neat tutorial. It was on tumblr but I can't find the dang thing.
Here's a rough example. (http://i.imgur.com/jADledj.png)

I'm gonna go look for it again.

EDIT: Also, yeah. Not bad for one layer. I've been doing all these drawings in MS Paint if that wasn't clear. >.>

That's a rather good Andy Dick drawing, actually.

Drew this the other night as well.

...I have to be up in like 3 hours. Please excuse my minimalism the last few days.

I believe we had a drawing challenge to finish! (If the forum being down is a good excuse.)

These should catch me up:

(Posemaniacs for reference again, but it was on random, so I can't link to it.)

(I can only take credit for the actual drawing. The texture is all photoshop)

(Looked at a whole bunch of different figures for inspiration, but ended up with something that didn't follow a particular one of them too closely)

Maybe sgore could be the TC again. I'm le tired.

EDIT: Or maybe I'll do it tomorrow. I dunno.
