Title: Cover Songs: Let us celebrate this art.
Post by: sgore on October 09, 2013, 08:10:55 pm
You know what's great? Original songs. You know what's also great? When bands who didn't originally sing those songs are like, "Ha ha, nice try punks," and do their own versions.

Let us celebrate that. Share your favorite cover songs. I'm in the mood for my musical preconceptions to be rocked in strange and wonderful ways.

Does "musical preconceptions" mean "ass"?

I'm sorry, I'll go die now. Move along.

I know your string quartet covers are ten a penny but I do enjoy their covers of Pantera:

Ah! Love Tally Hall. They're quite fun.

Also, Cake's version of Guitar Man is pretty fantastic:

MCR did a cover of Bob Dylan's Desolation Row, but I'm not gonna post it because Dylan's was (in my opinion) better anyway.

Double post, but worth it for what I think is an example of a cover which is better than the original. Sorry Val Helsing.

This may be one of my favorite covers of any song ever:

Worth listening to the whole thing.

Also, Krakow, I love the Pump Up the Jam cover.

I have a friend who posts obscure music like this constantly on facebook.  You can thank him.

Who wants a slow acoustic cover of the song that became the Six Flags song?

That's good, but why did they switch to the Friends theme song at the end?

I also had that question and appreciate you mentioning it.

I forgot about this thread, thanks for bringing it back!

Thank you for posting in it! I was reading the old Gorillaz thread and a Krakow post from 2013 reminded me it existed.

Do ASL interpretations of songs count as covers?

For some reason, recently, I've been enamored with them.

This is one of my favorites:

This cover was mentioned by the local radio guys this morning, one of the hosts lost his mind when he found out about it.  But seeing as I wasn't entirely awake I was thinking of Tom Waits instead of Tom Jones, so now I'm disappointed.  So let's just pretend this is actually a TF2 reference.

And to balance that out, a cover of a Tom Waits song:

I am pretty sure the second cover you posted is also a cover of a Tom Jones song.
But I am not a Tom Jones expert.
In the field of Tom Jones there are greater academics.

On the subject of Tom Jones, though:

1. Tom Jones and the Cardigans (who hit it big with Lovefool in the 1990s) covering the Talking Heads "Burning Down The House"

(I think I posted it on the forums once before, but not in this thread)

2. John Mulaney at a diner.
