The gate is open, I have oranges. I'm thinking about redoing the town, not sure I want to keep it before I get too far into it. What fruit do you have?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Post by: PatMan33 on June 11, 2013, 11:02:12 am
Peaches are my native fruits. In a day or so I should have Oranges and Cherries. And tomorrow I'll have access to the Island to get more.

Post by: LadyM on June 11, 2013, 11:04:30 am
How do you get to the island? I know it's at the pier but what triggers it? A certain day? I haven't figured that part out yet.

Can you visit me and leave some peaches?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Post by: PatMan33 on June 11, 2013, 11:08:17 am
Oh I just got the message about the peaches. I'll have to go back. :P

I think it triggers once you get the build permit.

Thanks. Maybe I can get cherries tomorrow. Not sure how many fruits there are this time. I had a perfect orange and I planted it, hoping it will make perfect tree.

I'll keep a reserve of fruits for you guys as I play so we can all get each variety.

I got pears as a gift. I planted them so I'll give you some when the trees come in. I'll save some too to help out. We need more players. :)

Enacted the Night Owl ordinance in my town so shops are gonna be open three hours later from now on.

I can't do any ordinances yet and haven't seen the boat to the island. I did buy a candy house exterior for my house though.

Right, so I've more or less figured out how the bug spawning works in the island area such that in about an hour you can rake in at least 200,000 bells. It's really simple! The island area can only support a specific number of bugs at any given time. Now, the actual number itself doesn't really matter. All you need to do is keep an eye out as to what bugs are spawning.

If you see low-value bugs scare them off. That'll open up another slot for another potentially valuable to spawn. Keep scaring off the worthless ones and farming the valuable ones. It works really well because the island area is so small. That means the player does not need to go far before the game triggers a respawn. You pretty much only have to walk ten steps in one direction and the half of the island that is lost to your sight will immediately respawn bugs.

In an hour you can easily pull in at least 200,000 if you know which bug types are of value. ;)

It's fairly similar to the way you could game fishing in the first Animal Crossing. I guess I expected that Nintendo would have changed it or something. But then I remembered it's Nintendo. :P

And by the way you're gonna need that money because this game has a crapload of very expensive upgrades.

**EDIT**
OH! By the way. All you need to rent is the fishing rod and the net. Keep the net out and the fishing rod only takes up one spot. You want the fishing rod as well just in case you see a fin in the water. They are a nice way to compliment your income since each finned fish is worth at least 10,000 bells.

As well, I'll give you a bug to hunt for. But you should figure out the values yourself, I can't do all the work for you. The Horned Elephant bug loves to hang out on the palm trees but has a really large detection radius. So you'll need to walk slowly, if you run or even walk too quickly the Horned Elephant bug will usually fly away almost as soon as it appears on the screen. They're worth 8,000 a pop and spawn pretty often.

Yes, get it and become addicted like we are. This is the first AC redo that is as fun as the first. The others didn't hook me. I need to get my blog running again, I want to blog/journal about the game as I play so for now, I'm going to do it here. (for now) :)

Day 1 June 10th
Restarted my town 3 times to get the right face and names. Once I had 10,000 bells I got a house by the river which is a tent for now. Bought my shovel and started planting fruit trees. Redd is here but bought nothing, can't afford it. I have 5 animals to start with. Daisy, Miranda, Bluebear, Chester and Mott.

Day 2
I have a real house, bought a net so now I can catch bugs. Pat visited me today and brought peaches. Now I can have extra fruit trees. Diva is moving in, she marked a spot.

Day 3
I ordered a new mailbox in blue then regretted it because I like the red one. I also ordered a candy house exterior, it was cute. I visited Pat's town and his Island. He had a birdhouse mailbox so I asked for one to be sent to my town store. I got coconuts at the island and we did a tour/game to catch bugs and found some lemons. His island also has lychees, they look like cherries. Planted all when I got back to town. I went back to his island at night and caught a ton of bugs worth a lot of bells. I also caught my first shark, a hammerhead. Paid my house off, hope to get an Island tomorrow. Met Diva, she has tons of boxes in her house.

Day 4
Today I was greeted by the old mayor and he showed me the dock and that tomorrow I will have an island. I should have restarted my game last night after paying my house off so I have to wait another day. I also made a town ordinance to make my town a wealthy town. That will start tomorrow too. Katrina the fortune teller is here today and Static is moving in tomorrow, spot is marked next to my house. The new mailbox is in and the exterior doesn't look as cute as I thought it would. I'll leave it for awhile.

Day 5
Today I met Sahara and for 3000 bells he redid my carpet and walls. Gave me wall paper that looks like a fence and grass flooring. It's not bad really, should raise my rating. Apparently you can only do it once. The best news is today I can go to my island!! and it has Bananas!!! Awesome!!

Cool beans! I'll add you guys right now.

Also my town is coming along nicely. Got most of the fruit (though a few days of no internet slowed that process down) and most of the shops have upgraded at least once and am expecting Nook's to upgrade tomorrow. The blue guy also woke up.

Play it!!

I lost all my turnips when my game glitched when Cobra and the Mrs were visiting. I think you can't check mail while you have visitors, it errored and lost everything we did.

Best Buy has limited time items at the moment but you need to go there and go through Nintendo Zone. There's a workaround to get Nintendo Zone to appear via your own router but the SSID seems to be different for this specific event. Gonna see if I can find that SSID so everyone can get these items, even if there are no Best Buys around.

How are those turnip prices looking today, guys? Mine are not good.

Also I've got three construction projects pending on Main Street!? Something called Dream Suite just went up, they're building something to the right of the Able Sisters' shop, and the Nook twins appear to be gearing up for a remodel. Lots of activity over the next couple days!! :o

Post by: Celdur on June 19, 2013, 01:07:09 pm
sounds nice, just got the garden shop myself, not much going on.

oh and the turnip prices are stuck to a few different kind of week trends that changes every week.

theres a small and big spike, both go down at first but pick up later in the week and then drop again.
you gotta sell at the right moment for those.

theres random, which is very random, wow.

and then theres just a drop and it sucks.

gotta get lucky yo.
also, prices change every morning and afternoon, so check often.

OH! You know what I just realized?

Some of you guys live in different time zones. Time zones that are different enough to mean stores will be open late at night/early in the morning. We should list our time zones as well.

I'm EST or GMT-5.

ALSO! I have a fruit hole to fill. I'm currently missing Apples, Pears, and Bananas. The Durians should be coming in soon.

Today is another busy day in There.

The Reset Control Center just opened up, our store is upgrading, there's another building going up on the East end of Main Street, there's a Police Station being  built, the Able sisters got a QR machine (woot!), and paths are going in today. Plus the last of the fruit trees took root.

Busy busy busy!

**EDIT**
My paths are done for the most part. Gotta make some new corner pieces though. The QR machine is a godsend.

Hey! Anyone have an axe? I went through both of mine and a silver one and there are two trees remaining between me and my goal of complete paths around town. :P

**EDIT**
Still looking for axes. If you've got any in your shops, grab them. I will pay you back for them or trade.

Also the shop upgraded and is open now.

Added you, Marty.

Also I got the limited run items figured out. Change your router's SSID to "Bestbuy" (you can leave any passwords as-is) and get reconnected. Go to the post office and ask for a present. It'll think you're connected at a Best Buy without needing to go through Nintendo Zone and you'll get the clock. :D

Oh and open your gates people, I want to visit. Does anyone have Redd? I need a painting.

I'll open my gates for awhile.

I think it would be a good idea to help each other, like if you have great turnip prices one day let us know and open the gates so we can sell ours.

Also let us know if your looking for something special, maybe we have it. I'm collecting balloon furniture. I need the floor.

I have an extra yoshi egg, triple banana and peach umbrella if anyone wants to trade.

Collecting the Nintendo stuff.

Would love the triple eggs and the banana. Just got triple red shells today.

I used to have the balloon floor I think. Either that or I got two balloon walls. Gonna check now.

Been researching how to get Public Works requests from villagers. There seems to be a fairly solid method to get them to talk to you such that you can get a PW request per day.

Basically you empty your inventory so nobody that wants to talk to you will do a "I see you have

So you run around town with an empty inventory waiting for villagers to want to talk to you. If nobody talks to you for the first pass, head into the water with your wetsuit. This seems to reset their conversation flag. Do this for a short span of time and when you go back to land villagers will once more try to talk to you. Generally speaking one villager will try to flag you down per trip to the ocean.

Give this method a shot if you're looking for more Public Works variety. :)

ALSO! Here is a list of villager personality types. (http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Personalities) Their personality type determines which buildings they will request.

**EDIT**
Just got a joke book from Club LOL. Now Villager has emotions!

Everyone keep your eyes on the turnip market. I just dumped 3 million into them this past Sunday and am looking to cash out. Will let you guys know if I have a good price both in-game and on here.

Also the shop is upgrading again, there's a new cafe being built, shampoodle is moving in, and a wind turbine will be up some time this week. And please come by for a visit and check out the new gardens I've installed. :D

**EDIT**
Just noticed there is a silver fishing rod and a silver shovel for sale in the museum. They're up for grabs, too. 500 each.

How did you get 3 million to start with? That's a lot of bugs.

My museum has upgraded to the shop upstairs, the clothing store is upgrading. One of my perfect orange trees died today so if you have any, be sure to save some fruit to keep planting. One of the oranges was rotten.

Will let you know about my turnips, today was not a good price.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Post by: PatMan33 on July 01, 2013, 02:58:11 pm
How did you get 3 million to start with?

It's not that hard. You can pull in about 300,000 bells per island visit if you know what to look for and with practice you can do it in about 40 minutes. So I spent the first week I had the game building up to 5 million bells. Then that Sunday I took 1/5 of that and it went into turnips. The rest went into my house and public works.

I've basically got two accounts. My turnip account and my spending account. The spending money goes for whatever, and I try to take at least 1 million from turnip profits to put into turnips. This past week I took 2 million. The rest goes into my spending account.

The first week I made a nice profit of about 1.5 million. Plus I had another 4 million from bug collection and other odds and ends. The second week I had about 3 million in profit but was spending a lot on upgrades at the time so most of my money was spent. This past week I put 2 million that was left from the week before plus a bit more I'd made and came up with the current haul, which I expect to get at least 10 million from.

I hope to balance it out so that I am pulling in `10 million bells per turnip run. That'll give me a nice cushion to work with and any extra I make goes right into spending/public works. I wish I was this savvy in real life.

Good night at the island last night, lots of beetles and 4 sharks. Turnips are 56 today. I have Katie the kitty again, she wants to travel on the train so I need to visit someone today and sell my perfect oranges too. I can leave you one. :)

How many days does it take to redo the clothing store? It's like day 3 and it's still under construction.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Post by: PatMan33 on July 02, 2013, 09:08:07 am
Shampoodle will open in the upstairs slot after three days of construction I think. That's how long mine took and it opened today.

Also check citizen satisfaction from time to time at the Town Hall. I did it yesterday and reached a high enough level to unlock the Town Hall remodeling projects. And keep posting those turnip prices! Mine suck today but it's now past Monday, and anything after Monday has a reasonable chance of being good.

Also we need to visit around. I don't have Ink or Cobra on my best friend list. Others too. If we can all chat in-game things will be much easier.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Post by: LadyM on July 03, 2013, 05:31:52 am
Turnips are 153 today. Better than what I paid but was hoping for a 500+. Now I have to decide if I sell or take a chance I can go higher. My cousin had 560 last week and I sold there. Everyone check your prices today and if you have a large one please let us know and open your gates all day.

In other news, my shampoodle is open and I got a new hairstyle. Nooks is upgrading and I'm building a police station. Finally got some good bug catching on the island last night, looked up the prices and scared off the ones worth 1000 or less. The blue butterflys are 2500 so thats not too bad either.

Spent some time this morning looking through /vg/ over on 4chan and on GameFAQs. Used to do trading on GameFAQs when the first AC came out, it's a solid place.

So this topic has made me start playing Animal Crossing: Let's go to the City for the Wii, since I don't have a 3DS. I've only been playing a few days, but it's kinda fun so far. Already got the first house expansion, and I'm making good progress on paying off my current 120,000 bell mortgage. After seeing you mention turnip investments I looked those up and I realised I missed the weekly sale.
Anybody own/still have his save to the Wii Animal Crossing? I could use a different fruit than my apples, to help speed the money earning along. I'm making some decent money from selling fish and insects, but that could get kinda boring after a while. Or is there a different way to get a second type of fruit than stealing borrowing it from somebody else's town?

The stuff I told you in IRC.
For posterity's sake (by which I mean, so that I don't have to dig through logs if I forget):
Not much new since the Gamecube version, except some stuff got moved to the tiny 'city' area, making some things just more of a hassle.
Thanks for the opinion.

So, should I switch over to Wild World for the DS, or just drop the game until I can get my hands on a 3DS?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Post by: PatMan33 on July 08, 2013, 11:20:34 am
Wild World has a great menu system with the touch screen that was inexplicably removed from the 3DS game.

But nah, if you're having fun then keep playing it. It IS nice to have AC in your pocket though. But if you're going handheld, just wait and save for the 3DS version.

I thought between the DS and Wii versions, the latter had more features?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Post by: PatMan33 on July 08, 2013, 01:16:56 pm
Yes but Animal Crossing is best played on a handheld. Being able to take it around with you is in and of itself an amazingly desirable feature and makes the game much more fun.

It's kinda weird how it evolved as it has. But at some point I think Nintendo also realized that Animal Crossing is much better suited to handhelds than it is to consoles.

Nabbed a silver slingshot today.

The paths are tricky because they can make balloon items disappear. Your character's reaction is pretty funny though.

The last HM game I played was Island of Happiness and that was after a while of disliking the series for doing nothing new.

I've heard the newest HM game is pretty solid, but I can't tell you about it. I'm just not into it that much anymore. :(

Hear good things about Rune Factory though. Apparently that's the game to play now instead of HM. Personally I'm hoping this game called Fantasy Life (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy_Life) gets ported over here sooner rather than later. Looks promising.

Ugh. So yesterday evening, turnip prices were finally above what I paid for them. 196 bells, while I paid 109. So I'm glad, since I invested 2/3 of my savings in 'em. Nook's was almost closing, so I rushed to sell all my turnips, and I made it just in time. I made enough money to pay off my mortgage with just the profits, so I was happy.
I check turnip prices this morning. 433 bells :|
Kinda wish I WAS too late yesterday...

Stripe Clock
Balloon Clock
Kiddie carpet/wallpaper
Kiddie couch

A villager moved and another one built in a different spot. So now I've got a big plot of space to use. Gonna use my final character slot and make a fourth house, then maybe I'll farm some bugs for a little, and finally I'll try to start a new public work's project before the end of the week.

New Leaf is getting updates!!

Bunch of amiibo stuff. They are integrating AC: Happy Home Designer's decorating mechanics into New Leaf, which is totally awesome! There seems to be a small quest system. Camping and whatnot. Ability to mute people. Playable games inside the game have been reintroduced. You can... sell your town and start over with a crapload of money if you desire. Splatoon items and villagers. ZERDU!?
