Title: Les Miserables
Post by: Plank of Wood on December 24, 2012, 01:59:33 am
FELLOW THESPIANS, GATHER ROUND

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHHHUk8RCw

All you need to know is Catwoman, William Wallace and Wolverine sing in this.

For people who haven't been dragged to a school performance of this musical, it's about a French rebellion (but not the important one in 1848 or the REALLY important one in 1789) and also poor people suffering.

Psh. Go and see it on stage instead of some overblown hammy-ass cash grab movie adaptation.

But this is the only time I will see a 19th century Republican rebellion in a movie because nobody else on the planet cares about this period.

Wait, why do they use a fake revolution backdrop rather than the two that actually happened?

It is a revolution that happened. The revolution in Les Misérables in 1830 was an attempt to overthrow the re-established monarchy that was set up after the Battle of Waterloo. The only difference is that the other two were actually successful.

They use it because that's the revolution Hugo used in the novel. Probably because he was actually in it.
